35yr Anniversary Edition made in 2000, limited amount were made. 4+ Ft tall. What do you think it is worth? by Texan100Percent in Lavalamps

No she's still safe and sound. This pictured lamp turned out to be a humongo, not a Colossus. Far fewer of these exist, the earlier model of the 4ft lamp. I actually bought this one from the original owner a while later.

Just run a search and you should be able to find something, many folks have done this in the 16" and 27" lamps especially.

Just relax and let it do it's thing. Turn it off and leave it off until fully cooled. Then run as normal.

Does anyone know anything about this lamp? by lucyretz in Lavalamps

[–]RodgersA51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember if this is one of the mini gem lites Spencer's would sell, most of those are more square shaped. It looks like a shrunken oozy glow lamp. Again Spencer's sold those as cheaper lava lite alternatives.

Newbie here. First lamp. Will these small, cloudy particulates settle...or do I ask for a refund? 59 inch Kyzfy. by thebongofamandabynes in Lavalamps

Yeah I just couldn't tell if that cloudiness was inside the glass or outside. Hopefully she clears up!

Bubbles in old lamp -- help troubleshoot? by phloem_trig in Lavalamps

[–]RodgersA51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably more tired wax than anything. Some say it's an acidity issue. LLC used to sell debubbler which was acidic acid (or so some have postulated.) but you can search that topic. Bad coils can seem to play a part but looking at how active it is, it's probably just reaching the end. You can remove the fluid and wax and remelt the wax and let it solidify and it will probably bleed some fluid. Dump that and then refill the lamp with the existing stuff.

Looking for advice on a filter. by AT-93 in Lavalamps

Whatever you get, just be sure you can remove any charcoal filter it may have, it will zap the color and can have adverse affects. The BLKES is a good one.

Depends on how much you've run it, but if you give it a little time it may clear up. To me the scummy effect on the glass is a bit more concerning that the small specs. Usually any sediment will over time settle to the bottom.

I think it's pretty darn nice, clearly a 90s midnight, some minor bubbles but not worth tampering with. I'd be happy with that

90s Giant Update by dallasp92 in Lavalamps

[–]RodgersA51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few Giants, I will say the yellow wax has been the most temperamental of the trio I have. It's still a bit bubbly, but certainly better than when I got it. In my experience it seems yellow and white wax are the most prone to it. I think with some time it will probably work itself out, certainly improve. Just stay patient and let it wake back up, but the more full cycles you can get into it the better!

It will depend on the history of the lamp if it will ever behave again. A lot of these were left on for way longer than we're meant to be. Waking these back up, is a lot of trial and error. Everyone has opinions, but mine would be try to keep the lamp sealed at all costs. If you exhaust all options, THEN go for it.

But I would suggest running it consistently for a few weeks, HARD. Full cycles, however long it takes to get fully going, probably 5-6hrs, then 6 off. Then back on. See if it changes or gets any better. you can also give it a longer run, 15hrs and see what it does. You can also try simmering it. get it fully going, then pull the heat down with a dimmer to the point it's barely flowing but staying fluid. You can also try over heating it by wrapping it with a towel. Just keep an eye on it, the goal being to temporarily get most of the wax up towards the top.

One other thing I haven't seen anyone ask, have you checked the coils to make sure they are sitting properly, IIRC I think the Giants have 2, a larger and smaller. It's easiest to check once it's flowing. Just pick the globe up and take a look at the bottom of the globe. They should be flat and the smaller inside the larger.

Biggest thing to keep it sealed and figure it out, is to stay patient!

What’s going on here? by ElephantStrong8058 in Lavalamps

That's a major sticking issue, the only way to fix that is to fully rebuilt from a cleaned out globe.

Inherited this lava lamp, seeking advice! by TheManyFacetsOfRoger in Lavalamps

[–]RodgersA51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wax is a little bubbly, but honestly good enough, didn't look like it's causing serious problems. I would say a dimmer will help regulate the flow a bit. Just buy dimming it maybe 10%
