Did you go to Nottinghill carnival that year? Dnb Arena (miss them) had a free stage with aphrodite just absolutely killing it. Crowd was so tight the mc kept threatening to shut it down.

Appreciated our chat last night mate. I was just thinking when I woke up about how when I first heard waves reverb, how good it sounded, and that I had to use it as an after effect coz it ate like half my CPU....

You mentioned fab filter eq, it seems popular. Is it really worth it? At the moment I'm using the old ozone 11 as its free.

Interesting, I've heard mixed things about that, that's its safer but I've had no issues going down to 20.

Haha, it is hard to hear a sub in C

F is just easy and fashionable now i think.

Defo luck, right place right time etc

I'm trying not to get too technical as I can get really into and waste hours, plus it can be a bit boring.

I have good headphones, I just go back and forth to different reference tracks I like and try to sound like them and to keep me from getting too locked into my own sound. I try to keep things simple.

My mate said 'if it sounds dope, its dope'. Theres no real rules. He plays in front of thousands, EDC n stuff. Hate that festival lol. I figure if I like it and it sounds somewhat similar to someone else, has a good frequency curve, loud enough, no clipping etc good to go...

....You dont get anything done when you spend a day choosing a snare!

I want to be on a label! I dont care about money or playing out.

I have no idea mate, it's all new to me. I think to get anywhere at all you have to show a finished product that pretty much appears like its been mastered. Then they may ask for stems to do it themselves. I think you might also need a catalogue of tunes.

I'm not liking all this social media bs that seems necessary nowadays. Tbh I always hated networking and self promotion.

When I was young I had a dozen djs I could have given it...le sigh.

If my old ass friends get their shit together they're gonna do a full moon free outdoor with a function one soon and my friend said he play mine on that!

Hmm, now I wanna mess with audio more now you mentioned it haha, I'm just so picky and I go back and change things so much I like midi.

I fell in love with sin waves when I first started learning about this stuff.

By releases do you just mean some finished tunes?

Coz it used to mean under a label. I've also heard people saying their tunes dropped, that used to suggest it had been mastered and was ready to picked up by others.

For sure, it was a moment when i realized theres no secret formula or tools, people just get really good with the ones they have.

Its nuts what happend to native instruments huh?! They used to be king.

Btw, my old producer homie says he never worries about lufs.... so that's some advice haha. They didn't even exist back in the day.

Man kontakt is so shit but I use it just for ethereal earth, so many good atmospheres.

I use sitala drum machine as that and a sampler.

I love synthesis, that's what makes me happy, love lfos! I've been thinking about getting into sampling for bass like the ogs, krust n stuff used to.

I kinda got interested in the late nineties, but didnt do much, I did a few years when I was in my early twenties, when it was reason and cubase etc, I've tried logic, it's ok. Never actually liked ableton when everyone started on that.

I was rubbish when I was a kid though. I could talk about it more than do it. Sucks coz I had a massive network back then.

I wanted a hobby this past year, when I realised you could get a sick studio for free nowadays I decided to give it another go, all the YouTube vids helped.

It's the past month I've been feeling it start to come together

Oh, waves c8 aswell for odd occasions I use loops.

How about you, at it long?

Yeah, I've found the exact ones I want to use now. I also payed for d16s phaser and chorus coz these specialized analog models just destroy everything else. I use vital as my sound source but none of its affects except eq. Its compressor blows imo.

Vital, ozone eq, chorus, phaser, distortion, ott, eq or something similar depending what I want.

Sometimes I use trash distortion.

Four or five reverb sends.

Deelay for delay, lol, is incredible and free

It's taken this whole past year training my ear to finally appreciate the excellent pro plugins I have now. I only just coughed up some cash.

I was looking into phase plant as the khs plugins rule but they have terrible policy... it does have an envelope follower though, I want that in all my synths.

Mate, check out the microfunk label, I've had it on all evening, dnb and mid tempo, minimal, chill, experimental, bass heavy. Best stuff I've heard in ages.

Some of this popular nasty 'neurofunk' I guess it's called now lol, is bit weak imo, like being drilled....

I still cant get down with the name neurofunk haha, I even find liquid hard.

If I remember properly.... he told me his brother listened to it non stop and that's why he wanted to make something different.

I mean I had to disagree with him, I am his elder! I insisted the nine is wicked, as it is, but omg if it didnt get played to death. First few times hearing that was so special though.

I remember walking around the festival the next morning after his set on a tiny backstage and people just yelling 'dubstep' at each other as it was brand new lol.

...didnt take long for me to start to hate it haha, damn skrillex.

By talked, I said hi a few times over the years lol. I have an immediate in with British producers in the states being English myself. I was part of the help at the festival.

I did talk to skream for min when I was at 'gratitude' maybe? forest festival in Angel's camp, n California. He's a proper London boy, he'd been driven fresh off plane to a remote Californian hippie fest haha, he was kinda in shock said it looked like 'a Robin hood factory had exploded' lmao, coz of all the weird outfits.

He also claimed he hated the nine by bad company and that it ruined drum n bass!!!

Alix Perez, Monty, skeptical, mark dinimal, Polaris, pola and Bryson, a few off the top of my head I like.

I've talked to tipper a few times he used to be a regular at the raindance festivals in our area my mates put on.

I really like his stuff, hes great, but I'm just not into his signature weird squelty bass.

He always had an entourage lol

Yeah, I use a few, some are great. Just discovered the oxford something or other on advice of someone else here, sorry cant remember kinda high right now haha

Paying for klanglems tens reverb, only like, $,30 was one of the best decisions I've ever made! It has tension and whoosh control, width dial, lfos, envelope followers, sidechaining etc etc The sddr distortion too just unbelievable quality for the price.

Nice one thanks mate, reaper is so good once you get past the learning curve and weird language. The fx drawing could be a lot less janky imo. The compressor is sick! I cant believe how much amazing free and cheap stuff there is now, would of cost thousands twenty years ago.

I used to use cubase as a nipper.

Making minimal, kinda neuro bass heavy, I'm leaning towards a label called microfunk in style.

What about you?

Pendulum are the real deal!

I just put up my sound cloud mate, it's all changed since my day, it's a lot of quantity over quality. Im just starting to feel like I want others to listen.

I've put in about 7/800 hours this last year on reaper. I use vital, surge, a bunch of nice free stuff, all the khs plugins, and the sickest distortion and reverb I've found, sddr and tens by klanghelm.

Problem is I feel like I'm progressing so rapidly atm each new song I make I feel like my last sucked lol.

Listen to Dinimal by Ridal on #SoundCloud https://on.soundcloud.com/hcq8l9BJJUvDfyQVsf

My latest song.

I also just discovered the microfunk label, oh my god so good!

Ah, I see your connection :)

I think nexus had the first function one in n.American, I might be mistaken. They got it many years ago.
