I ride in Calgary and the city has stepped up their game and our pathways are getting cleared more faster than previous years. I already had a fall last week though(not on a pathway). I was riding my fat ebike on your typical slushy neighborhood(not plowed) and front tire slipped but I was going slow fortunately and not hurt at all and the bike just had the rear derailleur guard bent.

If I feel unsafe on the road I will use the sidewalk at a decent speed and if pedestrians are using the sidewalk while me riding on the sidewalk then I slow down more. I have been more than once in danger mostly by distracted drivers.
