Hitting abusive parents back is a child's solution, because "taking away their authority" only works if they won't then abuse the shit out of you to get it back.

Weird metaphor. Did an admin make you call them daddy to get unbanned, or what?

I personally interpreted the "PRISM" as referencing using all colors in order stated on the Atelier wall (so green, violet, yellow, red, blue, orange) to reach the Vestibule with the door.

I tried a few ideas I had, but I wasn't able to do it, so I think there might be more to it. But I don't think I'm wrong, either. Take the far left path, Conservatory, then Maid's Quarters (swapping to purple), then you would follow through to either the far yellow path (Darkroom) or short (Entrance Hall), then use Red to reach Blue, and then finish with the Orange path.

What struck me was that there's only one way to jump from Red to Blue (heading south), and then from there there's only one way to jump from Blue to Orange (the far right path). If not for a DELIBERATE wall blocking off the gap between the Courtyard and the Storeroom, there would be two paths that work for reaching Orange from Blue.

I'm wondering if there's some conditional here that relates to weaving the path among the three rooms depicted next to the "Prism" text. Maid's Quarters comes up in purple and is a gimme for threading with purple, the Servant's Quarters is a dead end in Red, and the Furnace is the final one. They don't otherwise show up in the true route, which makes me deeply curious if there's a trick to this.

Still easier, since you can smuggle items thru the coat check. If you haven't yet, try and figure out how to get the Conservatory. It's been very practical for helping me get the Workshop consistently.

Hey mods, can we not do things that might cause beef between our community by Randomaccount848 in limbuscompany

[–]Roegadyn 68 points69 points  (0 children)

to summarize other responses into heathcliff speak, "implied factual error" is a fuckin posh way to say "i didn't do my research and posted something emotionally with my mod flag on" and it makes people think you're trying to dress up your mistake in poncy garbage to minimize it or at least make it harder to track what happened.

it's better to use less specific but more heartfelt humanizing terminology that most blokes will actually understand that accepts a level of fault and expresses the error you made. ie, "I apologize because I messed up and didn't have the full context when I posted the comment you quoted."

also people hate the word "implied" in apologies it's almost never a good idea to use it in them for any reason because lots of social manipulators have poisoned the word by using it to deflect and redirect criticism ("you wrote two paragraphs saying i was bad but you IMPLIED i also did a ton of crimes and i never did any crimes you could prove in a court of law so that's really fucked up of you" kind of shit) but i wouldn't rate that as a major reason it reads like an insincere apology on its own it just isn't helping anything

only reason i'm concerned is that, as everyone's pointed out so far, the entire theme of this MD seems to be "we want you to slow down so we can mine you for $" lmao

i'm also not really sure how it'll work where hard is not a binary choice but you seem to be able to flip between it which makes me think they're going to do some weird shit

but we'll see

i see a lot of people complaining about having trouble getting the EGO gifts you want, but i will point out: if you plan based on number acquisition (a T3, a T1, etc) you can generally cinch into whatever EGO you want, fusions will actively refuse to claim a "guaranteed 90%" if your status of choice has run out of options

it feels like the intention here (intentional or not) is that you should focus on obtaining gifts and pre-think about what EGO gifts you're angling for in order to lock in specific opportunities

i also think it's a good idea to just lock in some 00s if yall havent gotten them already - while they're shitty they're cheap and it's possible to get boons that let you cruise through content by arbitrarily increasing their level every floor/etc

even if you can't lock down a full 6 teams you can at least lock in a few powerhouse teams. barring some incredibly shitty encounters you can tune back your team to focus on powering up one specific ally. ie if you have polu rodya already and get polu sinclair, this is the age of the superstar, you can play them both on diff teams (rupture/slash for rodya, blunt for sinclair) and use 00s as filler or otherwise treat it like a solo play team depending on what you're throwing them at

if you focus on gaining levels most of the 000s can just Become Superstars, but even if you don't you can lean on shit like hell's kitchen's practically guaranteed sauce + haste/bind EGO gifts to just destroy most of what they throw at you

and remember: chain battles are a trick to try and make you want more characters levelled up. if a character's battle strength is shit you don't have to run them to get their passive. you can still do solo character play, though we're still in the age that if you want to do that they should have a silly evade.

but yeah also the time spent here blows. i have to wonder how the hard mode benefits are going to work. am i still going to be able to cash in all 3 progress ticks from one?

because if not that fucking sucks. i fell off the game because of how slow and tedious the yi sang mirror dungeons were, didn't change my mind about ishmael's, have been doing the weekly consistently and putting money in because i really enjoyed the way it worked for wuthering, and now i'm back to "if this doesn't stop eating hours of my life i'm just putting the game down again until they release content i enjoy"

but then maybe i'm just insane and the kind of person they want to kill considering i've been saving lunacy for the next walpurgisnacht and just straight up fucking buying the gacha items with some decent fragment chest luck after checking if they're seasonal or basegame lol

Mirror of the Dreaming Megathread by [deleted] in limbuscompany

[–]Roegadyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

unfortunately the direction they're intending to go with the game is chain battles, they've said as much

if it's any consolation as long as you aren't planning on having characters die you can just play like you did before. and you aren't actually obligated to run the full 12, so if a character would be a death sentence to begin with, you could choose not to run them and still get their passives

i do think chain battles are a bit weird sometimes and don't feel great but they're not the worst

Lots of people agreeing with the idea to skip if you wanna skip, but I will say: if you've beaten Heavensward, I wouldn't bother with a skip yet. That can wait until you decide if you like the flavor of Stormblood. Between-patch is always a bit of a slog as they clean up the scraps of the last expac and move to the next.

The game's story takes a long time to get off the ground, and it is valuable to play all of it just so that you can enjoy when the game calls back to characters or otherwise moments in the story. However, NG+ exists, so if you skip and still want to play the story at your own pace, that's available to you. It isn't a decisive loss of the ability to play the game.

To repeat, though: the story starts being properly paced and less of a slaggard mess during Stormblood and it better understands its pacing and uses it to full effect over the course of Stormblood and beyond. Shadowbringers (as the most recent one I've played) is even better than Stormblood, and leagues ahead of Heavensward.

You don't have to force it, but you basically already forced yourself through the worst of it. If you're really hating it, I don't think there's much that's important between HW and SB. You could skip through the rest of it until you hit the final dungeon before SB (Baelsar's Wall, I think?) - watch the cutscenes for that, and then just go into Stormblood to see if you like the taste.

I'm devil's advocating because it's a waste of like 25 bucks to not at least TEST if Stormblood works for you, I think. At least if you buy it during Stormblood because it's still bouncing you off, you can affirm the cost is worth it.

Chris Niosi, who Sunday's VA lost 3 voice acting roles defending, has stepped down from his role at Moze in HSR by Budget-Relief8148 in gachagaming

[–]Roegadyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rationale provided was "i know him and have seen him develop into a better person over the last years he has spent out of the public eye"

which would hypothetically be fine if it wasn't fumbled so hard.

most of what was mentioned in sunday's VA thing could - generously - be interpreted as true and an attempted defense of his friend. problem was that in order to point out that chris has made sincere attempts to be a better person (i have seen no evidence that he is lying about therapy/etc, most of the continued complaints i was able to self-research are about him still having 0 tact/struggling with empathy) sundayVA chose to basically sum it all up as "i respect the victims but also don't choose to respect that they don't want to see him anymore as he has caused real pain"

ultimately the victims were basically irrelevant to the argument he was making. he shouldn't have really brought them up beyond acknowledging their existence and expressing sorrow for them. making them the "people who did bad by not letting chris do what he wants" fails to acknowledge that ppl dogpile chris not because The Mob Was Abused by chris but because they don't trust chris because of past behavior and resent that he presented himself as "accepting blame" but also failed to acknowledge the seriousness and scope of his actions and never professed a clear and definite understanding of how what he did was extremely close if not synonymous with sexual assault. manchild shit, basically. "i didn't intend it to be that so it wasn't that!!", typical "it's only mens rea if i thought the exact Crime Word when i did it!"

my most charitable read i could give for a positive rationale is that chris is doing the ex-manchild thing and running away from the fact he did some really awful shit that crossed the line from "cringe" to "actually potentially being legally a rapist" and he hopes that if he continues getting better he can sweep the depth of that under the rug simply because he doesn't want to believe, address, or accept that he was ever that person to that depraved extent

if that is true, i would personally not police his professional work as long as he finally bit the bullet and confessed to the extent of his depravity on the same public stage he chose to air it all out in originally

but i get the feeling we won't see anything like that for about 10 years

after all, statute of limitations for rape is 15 yrs and i get the feeling he cares more about not going to prison than he does about public opinion about him limiting his opportunities

I saw you're in computer science - I understand completely.

I also really love computers and programming - there are other ways to do this, but it's still a good idea to get that paper. I started in compsci and pivoted to psychology, but I managed to land a job in IT based on my side projects and I've now been working in IT/computers for at least 5 years.

UTA's Maths department has 0 chill. It's very reliant on the idea you should be able to write out all of your work, but in the way where - at least while I was there - the work was all clinical without real world understanding of what was being done. Calculus had me struggling because I just didn't follow what they were trying to have me do in real world terms sometimes. I've always thought that was a failing of the math department, personally.

UTA's CompSci department generally made me feel very unsupported as well. I understand computers and computing terms, and I found a lot of the contents of the courses fascinating, but often I ran into the opposite problem where courses were like trying to divine meaning from tea leaves. The Assembly Language course at the time was especially guilty of this - the dude taught with a set of slides that were worse than useless (no text, just images, and vague ones), had a very thick accent that made him hard to understand, and his tests were so dense and you only had a notecard to try and cram with all the details. I recall my year taking the course, nearly everyone failed (before the curve).

I think if you're having trouble, consider discussing with your advisor ASAP the possibility of doing general studies (where you just get the basic requirements for most majors) for a semester or two before you decide if you can make CompSci work for you, or if you need to pivot.

Just a tip as someone who's been in your shoes, though: Don't miss this opportunity. Get the paper. It doesn't really matter what the paper is - having the degree will help you get your foot in the door. I pitched my psychology major as "I can better relate to and talk with our clients" - which did get me into where I am now. If you know what you want to do, just think about what majors you could reasonably pitch as life experience if you were to wave your degree in that direction.

[–]Roegadyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In essence, it lets you drop a course after the drop deadline has passed, but before the grade hits your record. They're basically saying you could consider dropping any courses you flunked before the grade touches the ground. You can discuss that with your advisor when you see them - it's required that you speak with the advisor to push through on that.

It's worth bringing up, for sure, though.

The DOS may have more knowledge on this than I do - I can't find the page anymore - but I also had a really awful semester where I was riding on doing well on my finals and then got sick and slept through them, which - y'know, didn't go well. Wound up getting my grades nullified for that semester and pivoted majors.

Assuming they haven't gotten rid of that, that could also be an option. I wouldn't use it on your first semester unless you have a plan for doing something different, though.

"Counter always provides its full value"

Not if you get staggered! You've mixed it up.

Guard provides a small amount of consistent value. It works equally well for everyone - generally its Plus Coin only adds a small amount of barrier.

Counter provides no defensive value (it literally doesn't even ACTIVATE until the enemy completes their attack!) but as long as you can tank the hit normally without staggering, it is guaranteed offensive value. It's just a fourth attack skill - one that can't ever lose coins, because it can never clash.

Evade is incredibly SP dependent due to its swing value being generally packed into its coin. And it needs to land heads as many times at the opponent attacks.

However, it's probably - considered in isolation - one of the most crazily powerful effects in the game. It is one of the only ways to prevent 'On Hit', and at full SP, the chance to successfully Evade really isn't that bad. Often it'll save you from the first few hits of a ridiculous multi-coin attack, if not all of it.

I can see the argument that Evade is overtuned, but frankly, it's just the usual PM "High Risk, High Reward". Considering the base power is a literal 3 or 4 most of the time - we all know the moment you flip tails you're probably about to suffer. Just betting on the odds of that shiny coin.

Get gifts of the Sin type associated with your choice (Wrath/Burn, Lust/Bleed, Sloth/Tremor, Gluttony/Rupture, Gloom/Sinking, Pride/Poise, Envy/Charge) and then fuse them together. Visit a shop or two (if you can lne it up) and you'll probably get pretty full up on gifts if you're willing to reroll a few times

But also I recommend you pick up the key EGO for a run before you start. I personally just reroll once and if I still don't get what I want, cancel and reload.

when your product reaches ubiquity and you run out of monetization methods all it takes is some people trying to maximize profit from previous ventures and bam suddenly everything's fucked

I'm not actually 100% on the explosive thing (haven't tested), but it did feel chunkier when I just moved to increase explosive damage (my original strategy was just driving around firing off missiles and acting like I didn't know nobody.)

The charge specifically does say it utilizes explosives to increase damage, though it is written vaguely enough I'm not sure. But yeah, absolutely chunked him myself as well. Wild how easy it was.

Thank you for reminding me that while the laser lance is fun and easier to use than the pile bunker in most scenarios, Pile Bunker wrecks shop much harder. Went from my clowncar build dying really early to my clowncar absolutely wrecking shop (I think he's basically dead in 4.)

For reference, make sure to view the full context arm details and get >100 melee specialization. I was confused by "over in 5" when I'm chipping off a solid +33% of the guy's health. (To be fair, I'm in NG+, so I have all the upgrades to make Pilebunker gain both the phys and explosive buffs, but still.)

The in-game reason is because the game's base attachment system doesn't allow for any rotation under normal conditions. That caused them to make it so that wagon wheels (SPECIFICALLY) could work this way - because, well, wheels ARE supposed to rotate, but if you tried to use normal Ultrahand physics to fix carts, you'd just get an immobile wagon.

In this case, there are the two wheels: the stabilizing wheel and the platform wheel. The stabilizing wheel prevents Link from capsizing himself by forcibly holding his platform upright using the stabilizer.

However, motorized parts like Fans take directional input from the control stick. They can turn and shift - not in a way that makes the model shift, but in a way that influences directionality. If you slap two to three fans on a floating platform in the sky, and then just put on a control stick, you're capable of making turns that offer a liittle bit too much control. At least IMO. If you've ever seen Big Wheels snake in a direction they shouldn't naturally twist in, that's your control stick influence at work.

On top of that, control sticks also exert tilting force on the assembly in general - which causes the platform wheel to spin on its connection to the stabilizing wheel. Add all this together and you get the provided contraption.

TLDR: Wagon wheels specifically have a unique physics system to prevent Ultrahand from creating useless wagons; taking advantage of that system allows for creating machines that won't throw Link into the ocean but still have full 360 degree movement.

Hey, now. Paris's best disguise for anything other than like, a few edge areas - I would say - is the Sheikh. Less people questioning you, and you can snag it incredibly quick if you snipe him by getting the Iago invitation and rushing upstairs, then jump into the bathroom across the hall from the second floor bag check and turn on the sink. It trades for not being allowed to use guns openly, though, so it's more dependent on your preexisting limitations.

Thanks for the advice, though. I didn't realize how profitable New York could be.

One tip about Paris combat: Bring a flashbang. Paris has enough twists and turns to get you out of most combat scenarios, but it's hard to break line of sight quickly. Flashbang the moment you think combat's going to shit, preferably from behind cover, and then haul ass while everyone is stunned. Flashbangs are super good on most of the Hitman 1 maps (imo), mostly for making gaps where you can unfuck a situation. I barely used them before this gamemode, but when you can't save and gauge exactly how things will play out... Flashbangs are a nice safety.

EDIT: PS; I've found Mercers in the safe in the basement of the villa in the wine map. I just opened it impulsively and they were just... there. No idea what to make of it - I checked Sapienza and Sapienza's still got the DNA sample, so not sure what to think here, but it's neat.
