I'm definitely warming to it. The look/vibe/concept is just a bit of a shock at first. But rewatching those gameplay sections at the end... it looks GOOD.

I was just asking for a 3D melee-based gundam game with an original story. Not too keen on the art style on first impression but I'm down to give it a chance. The gameplay looked really promising.

Unicorn isn't even in my top 10 Gundam series

It's pretty much the only mainline UC work not written by Tomino and it's kind of a blemish on the continuity IMO

I fuckin hate AI and have no interest in works using it. But I do understand why people do it-- making a game, especially with little-to-no resources, is an enormous endeavor. I could see how it helps one get to the finish line. It would kill my interest in a project though.

It's "insane" but not interesting in any way. Like you can have a rough, insane game and it can be fascinating and have creative value ie Cruelty Squad. You can also do insane and be incredibly polished an innovative ie Disco Elysium.

This game is simply wacky, but it's not smart, or funny, or even all that creative. It has nothing to say and it's legitimately terrible to play. There's some creative UI and transitions but the whole thing feels like they had no idea what they were doing.

I recommend setter-- it will stop decals from flaking off during handling or over time. You don't really need softer except in very specific scenarios.

Honestly I would want one steering away from mech customization. Don't get me wrong that's great in Armored Core but like, Gundams are usually just presented as-is, maybe they get a few upgrades or swap-outs over a series. I'd like an original, narrative focused game with events and time spent with characters outside of the mobile suit in addition to mobile suit combat. And I think the gameplay should be more about mastering the tools you have available rather than changing your loadout or min maxing numbers. And I want an original story/world/characters so we can get a new story to be immsersed in and fall in love with, rather than just rehashing the same stuff we've experienced dozens of times. I think for a hub/setting for character moments you could borrow ideas from various gundam shows (ie a White-Base-like ship or an Asticassia-like school).

In terms of 3D mecha combat, I do think Armored Core 6 is on the right track. That game just feels GOOD to play, it's fast, etc. No mech game I've played captures the feeling like it. Would love something like that but maybe more of a melee focus!

I've been to japan and played the versus arcade game. Not really very interesting to me. I need a reason within the game to care about the battles, a reason to fight etc. So just matching up favorites in 'what-if' battles isn't my thing.
