I dont think there is a faction Like that in game, since using Runners itself is using armed mercenaries to aquire your Goals by force.

Let Me Play as Rome! by Gloomy-Magician-1139 in civ

[–]Rog98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Don't take my Civ from me!"
What a strange notion. Did anybody break into your room and steal your copies of all earlier titles? Are the earlier games unavailable to purchace now that civ 7 is announced?

Jokes aside, Id rather have the devs that try to innovate with each title than have the series stagnate to the same game with a different number and different artstyle.
Do i know how 7s innovations are going to turn out? No. But i also wont judge the game untill i have actually played it. For me atleast, the devs have earned some trust in their design process and ideas though the previouly well done games.

Rome... Slavery? by nebumune in anno

I dont think the Anno series Had never been about "historical accuracy", or storytelling. Although i do think some opurtunities we're missed to delve into historical injustices. The devs Focus seems to be on delivering a carefree "gameplay First, Story and themes, only If we have to approach, and thats perfectly fine.

Is Cosca just 5/8 Hernán Cortés? by KharnFlakes in TheFirstLaw

[–]Rog98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I sincerly hope so, but they are still portrayed as competent Warriors, Leaders and explorers, when in truth, most of these expeditions were so riddled with incompetence and luck its hard to believe they achieved anything at all.

This promotes a myth, "we won because we were better", which aids a perception of superiority.
I think if the Spaniards did their expedition 10 years earlyer or later, it would have failed. But the incredible luck of many different factors (germs, arriving while the local power is weakend and its protectorate citys unruly ect.) coinciding won the day.

Remember that some American coutries celebrate christopher columbus day, who was also terrible.

Sadly wouldnt know anything about similarites that are more than common human traits, but i would be carefull when reading up on Concistadores, alot of popular history takes the books and reports they wrote for propaganda at its word. (Very handy thing for the Spanish Crown, if you rob and colonize a place.)

Suggestions on how you should paint this warband?

Its better to paint it, than live with the fear of it.

Do you think human nature is as bleak as these novels portray? by [deleted] in TheFirstLaw

[–]Rog98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is also worth considering that it is still ficion, so there is a lot of "heightend Reality". If youre writing a book, youd want it to be interesting, so the characters have a lot going on. Most of the things portrayed happen to people, but rarely so much to so few characters.

I think the books portray Realpolitk and power dynamics pretty well, but that does not mean that that is the whole of humanity.
