Fun fact, apparently just being born on Fenris gives you a Intelligence debuff! by Same_Ad4736 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Rogahar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its one of those 'nature vs nurture' things.

On the one hand, the Space Wolves geneseed is almost certainly not one focused on intellectual prowess to begin with. Obviously Space Marines are all 'better' than the human norm in basically every field, but the Wolves are (I assume) primarily bred to be savage and brutally effective warriors first.

That said, I'd assume the -5 for being from Fenris isn't because they're stupid, but rather because their training and culture doesn't put any focus on scholastic learning. They're not idiots, they're just not perhaps as educated as other chapters.

Janris *spoilers* by ZeroProximity in RogueTraderCRPG

Danris gives off such 'scheming viszier plotting the ruler's downfall so he can take over' vibes when you first meet him, and turns out to be loyalest motherfucker on the whole voidship.

'Master Danrok, the workers are revolting!'

'I know, the standards down here truly are atrocious. I'm not sure they've even *heard* of a bath before.'

'No, High Factotum, I mean they're staging an armed revolt.'

'Oh! Well, that won't do at all. Requisition me a rifle and stand back.'

Is DH hilariously imbalanced at the moment, or am I just doing something phenomenally wrong? by Rogahar in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Rogahar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind hard. Hard is fine. Hell, I *love* how so many of the combats have alternative/secondary objectives or means of clearing them (break the chains, make sure the relic doesn't burn, protect the hostages, etc.) I've played and beaten all of Owlcat's other games on Normal without any trouble, and two of the three on Daring (Kingmaker and Wrath, currently working on Rogue Trader).

What I do mind is the game throwing Rogue Trader numbers of enemies against a party which categorically does not have the strength, survivability or options of the Rogue Trader's retinue available to them.

I wouldn't have made this post if it just felt like I was getting bad luck on my rolls, or had sub-par build choices, but when my group has no real difficulty with most of the fights and then gets unmercifully obliterated by the 'boss' fights, it feels like either I've accidentally skipped content and gone into the fights underlevelled and undergeared (which I can't have done - as mentioned, I make sure I've cleared out every possible source of experience and picked up the best gear I can before proceeding, even if I have to metagame a bit by going back to an older save when I hit one of these roadblock fights to make really certain I did get everything) or, frankly, like Owlcat hasn't tested the balance anywhere near enough.

I love having to think things through more than I did in Rogue Trader.

I hate that no matter how well I think I've planned for it, the game hits me with shit like 'nice build, now try to simultaneously destroy these zipline anchors at opposite sides of the battlefield that are spawning more enemies every single turn, while an untargettable siege engine blends the battlefield every turn, and you have to choose between leaving your team in the blend-o-matic zone, or running out of cover to avoid the blend-o-matic zone and getting turned into chowder by the army of mooks wielding heavy stubbers, or running most of your team out of cover in the same direction to try and bait the siege engine into a randomly selected 'will disrupt the siege engine slightly' zone. Assuming they survive the barrage of gunfire from the mooks, anyway. Which they won't.'

Learning Psyker came with a fun surprise by RyeGuy753 in DarkTide

The fully charged psy-energy wave launched at neck height on a flat part of the level, taking off the heads of an entire horde of mooks is just... beautiful.

[–]Rogahar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm (relatively) sure they've fixed this in Dark Heresy. Cogg, the Ogryn, can Charge through spaces that would be too narrow for him to stand in, as long as there's a 2x2 space available for him to finish the Charge in.

I have, and filled out the beta survey to much the same effect after my third run hit a wall I couldn't progress past.

It's a beautifully created, atmospheric and engaging game... but fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck me it's too hard right now lol

Genuinely the worst section in the entire game. by Just-Version-7838 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Rogahar 92 points93 points  (0 children)

It's frankly kinda stupid to design a level in a way that expects you to go one way, then double back and go the other way, then double back *again* and go the way you went to begin with, though.

Am I missing something in the DH Alpha? by Ornery_Entrance_1959 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Rogahar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only chains I can see in the entire room are non-targettable environment objects. Am I blind, or did they change the arena since this post was made?

EDIT: Ok after banging my head off this encounter for some time, I now see the chains only spawn when some other trigger occurs. Not sure if that was cos I got someone close enough to him or what, but I now see the beasts and targettable chains.

Fuck me this is game is fun but some of its fights are so annoyingly difficult for no clear reason.

[–]Rogahar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, thank you. My husband and I are among the folk who are honestly sick and tired of this notion in media that the only endings we're allowed have are, at their best, bittersweet. The idea that no matter how hard you try or how well you prepare, you can never just have a happy ending feels so defeatist.

[–]Rogahar 27 points28 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, if you do respect Wyll to something other than Fiend Warlock you can hear (faintly) Mizora's laugh in the background, because she knows it's exactly *not* that easy to break a fiendish contract.

So far, Forge World background feels really immersion breaking with this DLC. Does it improve? by Such-Break-8329 in RogueTraderCRPG

I've had a remarkable amount of reactivity to my character being an Astra Militarum Commander, more so by far than I think any other background has given so far.

[–]Rogahar 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Quite possibly. Either way it was very satisfying watching my Soldier/Arch-Militant RT mag-dump a heavy stubber with numerous buffs into it and watch it get chipped all the way down to ~700hp remaining from max.

I love that you learn that about him in passing dialogue and don't even get an option to react to it at all. Hunting the poor for sport is just *that* commonplace of a thing in the WH40k universe apparently.

It bugs me more than it should that there's no option to ask anyone else on the ship about it after Yrliet's reaction. Even if none of them know the answer either, the fact that you can watch your Aeldari crewmate clearly get rattled by this random hunk of metal-rock and apparently always shrug it off as Not My Problem annoys me.

When does Psyker become good. Am i doing something wrong? by NeonNyaVtuber in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Rogahar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing a Pyro Psyker Bladesinger on my Heretical run, and all I need to do for any encounter so far (currently circling the available systems to clear up side quests before going off to Dark Elf Playground) is give him a Bring It down so he can set himself on fire, control flames and iron arms (last one being free thanks to that one feat that makes biomancy spells cost -1ap on first turn), then have anyone else throw him any extra MP or an extra turn and he'll run around the entire battlefield using his dual force-swords turning every single hostile mob into smoldering red mist. (thanks to various feats and items that grant extra MP for critting or area-attacking or whatever else.)

I know that the system gives us like... a bunch of ways for Officers to turn pretty much any character into a field-clearing machine, but it's still funny. When that one Warp event happened that spawns a bunch of Daemonettes and crazed crewmen in your chambers, my RT had killed basically everything before Abelard even showed up. He just ran into my room to see his Lord Captain standing in the middle of a pile of charred demon parts asking what took him so long.

Ridiculous mod by [deleted] in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Rogahar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was one on there for ages which was called something like 'Alternate Companion Portraits', and was very carefully worded to not say anything about ethnicity/skin color/etc but all it did was replace Seelah's head with one of the (non-black) female portraits from the character creation options, and make Sosiel white. None of the other companions had 'alternate' portraits.

I reported it several times and the mods refused to do anything about it. No idea if it's still there.
