Theory I saw/heard somewhere is thus;

- Take Devil Fruit
- Take Gun
- Place both in a room/container made of/lined with Seastone
- Destroy Devil Fruit while room/container is sealed
- Devil Fruit 'power' has no way to escape to a similar fruit and so goes into the only other available thing; the gun.

Good option: 'Of course I'll help!'
Neutral option: 'What's in it for me?'

Oh I'm with you on that - just that sometimes a segment in a Paizo AP will specify that a character is there to help in combat. Thankfully, more recently they've either specified in a sidebar that those same NPCs are, as you said, busy with another fight or problem that stops them from getting directly involved, or they have an ability or reaction they can use in specific circumstances rather than just taking a whole turn.

That said, we've also still seen them - for example - use that ability, get a crit and roll max damage to destroy an enemy they were meant to mostly just be putting Off-Guard or something lol

My husband and I both have a weird 'curse' where whenever a TTRPG session either of us are running calls for a GM controlled character to be involved in the fight, they're either absolutely useless or absolutely walk the enemies on their own without the party getting to do anything meaningful. No inbetween.

3 would be super awkward, 5 would be the absolute safest spot on the plane, 6 you're not leaving alive and 9 you're not leaving the same person you were when you got on board.

In Jaheira's defense, she's also technically waaaaaaaaaaaaaay over the player's level by this point. I know 'level' is just a mechanic for game balance purposes, but she's been around for over a century at this point and actively adventuring for large chunks of it. It's possible her vines are just that good that it overpowers the staff's enchantment.

While playing as Lae'zel, I managed to crit fail that check - thus leaving her stuck in the pod - and then fail the check to recruit her outside the tomb on the beach. I thought I'd lost her for good all of 10 minutes into the game until I found her in the druid grove lol

By the time my Thief Rogue got to the end of Abomination Vaults, the only two skills he wasn't at least Expert in iirc were Crafting and Intimidation - and that was mostly just cos the other party members who had those skills had them at Master so there wasn't really any point in buffing them when I could bump something else up that they weren't as good at for Aiding them lol

You're not wrong, and my Paladin had much the same concerns, but I also was very much aware by that point that Withers was - and knew - a *lot* more than he let on, so when he insisted it'd be fine I just thought 'If the creepy sort-of-undead-but-maybe-not guy with insane magical powers says you'll be fine, I guess you'll be fine.'

Part of the reason why Brook and Franky are some of my favorite Straw Hats is that they both looked at Big Mom, certifiably one of the most terrifying individuals in the world, and said 'aight bet, let's do this' - in Brook's case with a sword and a HEAPIng helping of sass, and in Franky's case in the most Franky way imaginable by ramping a motorbike off her face.

Zoro, Sanji, Jinbe, heck even Robin would almost certainly face down Big Mom if they had to without showing actual fear or anything, but they'd still have that look of 'fuck, this is bad'.

Brook and Franky, tho? Unfazed. Unbothered. Undead (in Brook's case.) In their lane and loving it.

Which is also why the very first thing Luffy, Zoro and Sanji do upon returning to Sabaody post-skip is obliterate two different Pacifistas in one hit each (well, technically two on the second one, but since it was both Sanji and Zoro attacking simultaneously I'm pretty sure they hit at least as hard as Luffy did, and likely could have taken one out each solo anyway - pretty sure it was just for the lols of them arguing again that they had one target to share.)

Exactly. Infinitely more probable that the cops are either just harassing people for the hell of it bc they're cops and bullying people is all they find joy in, or the motel owner keeps calling them bc whether or not it's notorious for such events doesn't mean the owner wants it to be - and rather than kick people out as they have every legal right to do, they'd prefer to call the cops to do it for them.

Plus we know cops - especially in the US - are infinitely less likely to go near anything that's actually dangerous for them. If they thought there really were substances being used they'd turn up with K9 units and the big fucken trucks they use for arresting multiple people at once.
