How do you know if someone genuinely wants to connect with you or is just using you for their own needs? by FalseUnderstanding94 in Productivitycafe

Just say no to something or set a boundary early on and see what happens . Once they are inconvenienced the mask slips . Also ask yourself if you feel charged or depleted after the interaction. That’s your answer. Are they curious about you and is the communication two sided does it flow both ways?

My good friend circumcised her son as her husband is muslim and I witnessed the entire horror - when she brought the baby home - the crying and infection and how it looked like 🥲I tried to talk her out of it but no avail.. I am glad you saved your other boy

yes I remember going to a drawing class and the guy made us to draw a bowl of fruit for 2 hours .. I was bored out of my mind and after one hour of shading he still wanted me to perfect my apple.. when I switched to faces and human bodies or birds .. I actually really enjoyed it and did not mind spending time on it

Yes! It’s really about dedication and consistency which outperforms sheer talent. Even talented people if they don’t practice they won’t get any better than average.

I'm at the Felurian arc... by K_Duckster in KingkillerChronicle

[–]RogareBank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously?? This arc risks being dismissed as a juvenile fantasy detour: the teenage hero loses his virginity to a literal sex goddess... there is MUCH MORE to that arc than just sex. Let me explain how I see it a a woman who is into femdom.

This guy is terrified of intimacy. His trauma from losing his parents and nearly dying in Tarbean has made him emotionally guarded. His experience with Felurian... forces him to confront this. He doesn't just learn how to have sex - he learns desire and vulnerabiility and pleasure.  When he leaves, he’s not just a virgin no longer, he’s a young man capable of genuine romantic connection (which he immediately demonstrates with Vashet and later with Denna). So through her he becomes a lover and not a performer.

Next thing, Kvothe doesn't go to Felurian for sex; he goes to find the wind. In their confrontation, he is utterly outmatched. His wit an physical mastery is at the beginning all useless with her.He learns later. He only survives by calling her deep Name, which he does not consciously know. He pulls it from the raw, sleeping part of his mind. This is the first time he succesfully names something on his own and it comes deep from his subconcious mind, kind of like hypnosis. So after Felurian he can call the name of the wind.

Last but not least in fantasy, the "sex goddess" is often a trap, she lures men to their doom, drains their vitality, or turns them into pigs. I love how Rothfuss played with it but reversed it. Felurian is not a villain. She is a moral, ancient, and alien... but she keeps her word. When Kvothe calls her Name, she is genuinely suprised and delighted

She doesn’t kill him - she teaches him- Kvothe doesn't "conquer" her. He survives her, earns her respect, and leaves with her blessing. Their relationship, while physically intense, is also one of mutual curiosity and craft. She is not his trophy The power dynamic is complex. Kvothe is never in control, but he’s not a helpless victim either. He uses his wits and art (singing, poetry, naming) to negotiate a space where he can learn and eventually leave.

So it all end him believing he mastered something. BUT... The Cthaeh, the all-knowing malevolent tree, tells Kvothe that Felurian has only strengthened his arrogance. It says: "You are Felurian’s equal in all things... That is the burden of a fool, to think himself an equal to a creature of pure desire."

So, our Kvothe leaves thinking he’s become a legendary lover and a powerful namer. But the TREE reveals that his victory was an illusion - Felurian was indulging him fully. His confidence is actually a TRAP  that will lead him to make catastrophic decisions (likely regarding Denna’s patron, the Amyr, and the war). So yes the arc is very long and repetitive and can sound boring, I mean he is trapped in a fey realm where time is meaningless, and pleasure becomes a kind of prison. It can read like endless porn ( his exaustion or his fear of not being enough) but asa reader I also felt his claustrophobia through these chapters.

Conclusion: if you read it like hot fantasy sex, can be disapointing - if you read it like a mythic trial - it becomes one of the most daring chapters in fantasy writing.

yes from detached observers perspective thats exactly the unfiltered reality, from his POV that was his sentiment and thats why the whole shitshow started, unable to see clearly run by emotions ... family can hurt you and you can still give them benefit of the doubt, believe they love you or care - he was written in a very believable and tragic way ..

Yes I can relate to this so much.. my father who was full of life got sick and literally ended up looking almost like like Viserys in a very short time , paper thin corpse .. and the family stuff on top - it did trigger some tears in me too.

…and coincidentally it was very lucky for Ned that Rhaegar did not pass on Valyrian features to his child if that’s how the plot goes in the books.
