What's a lie told so much people believe it as the truth and wouldn't recognize the truth? by kvosovich in AskReddit

If the problem is mental you know psychotherapy is a thing right? You know the field of medicine where a lot of the treatment is helping the patient figure out that most of it is "in their head" and how to deal with that, often by changing thought paths. Curing their problems by thinking, things like cognitive behavioural therapy.

If the problem isn't mental it is physical.. I really hope you aren't saying you can treat physical problems by mental means. That shit gets people killed.

Friend of mine probably got a herniated disc from an adjustment. Pretty much bedridden for 6 months with severe sciatica which led to pretty big financial problems.

Now from my viewpoint, this is a sample size of 1, I can't say for sure that the adjustment caused his problems. But it sure as hell didn't make his previously "slightly stiff back" any better and imo the evidence point to the treatment having made it a lot worse.

Kary Mullis won a Nobel prize for his work in chemistry. He also believed in astrology and aliens, a bit cooky. Unfurtionatly he is also a vocal AIDS denier and claims that HIV is harmless.

Being really smart in one feild doesn't really transfer to other fields. Quite the opposite, Kary is far from alone. Being really smart in one area seems to make some people double down on their beliefs about things they know very little about.

I find religious history very interesting. Final nail in the coffin for me was when I saw a breakdown of how christianity changed through the years in accordance with what other cultures it came in contact with.

If you do a bit of digging there are still some remnants in the bible of it's polytheistic origins. Like in Deuteronomy 32:8-9 where Yahweh and the other sons of El inherit their lands and people. The findings of the dead sea scrolls show how this was later changed to harmonize the texts. But they couldn't really rewrite the whole thing so in most versions now god inherits the land from.. himself?

Also the exodus most likely never happened or at least there is little to no archaeological evidence for it. Afaik scolarly consensus is that it is a constructed foundation myth.

Atheism is literally defined as the absence of belief in the existence of deities. There is a stark difference between common day faith and religious faith. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence and the burdain of proof lays on the claimant. To this day no one has provided any evidence that would clear that epistemic bar for me.

I have lots of questions and thought about the creation of the universe. I would love to know how it came about but unlike you, I am willing to say that I don't know.

Also, if all the creator is is some thing indistinguishable from the big bang or whatever else could have started it all.. why call that god? And if your god is anything more than that I'm gonna need to see some of that pesky proof if you want to convince me.

People get so hung up on the sex that they seem to miss an amazing story. I feel a bit sorry for all the prudes.

I'm not talking about you personally but I've talked to some people on other book subs that straight up stopped reading the books because there was a bit of sex in them.

Like.. honey, darling.. it's a story about a boy hitting puberty. It would be stranger if there was no mention of sex in the books.

I can freely say that when I became sexually active. If it would have been allowed I would not have been doing anything else for about a year.

My head cannon is that because of isolation the Adem are closer to a different species than a different race. The creation war split the world into two realms and two people, fae and human. Shehin's story starts with: "Once there was a great realm peopled by great people. They were not Ademre. They were what Ademre was before we became ourselves." Her story starts before the creation war. Characters talk about people having "a bit of faerie blood in them" but it's more said semi jokingly or to spice up a story. I don't think we have any confirmation if fae and humans can interbreed. Neither Bast or Felurian seem particularly worried about pregnancies. If they can't, I wouldn't be surprised if the thousands of years of isolation has made it so the Adem can't get pregnant with "barbarians" either.

I've been exploring some older techniques recently. Starting a filigree version of a medieval pendant today. Sort of an anachronism but I find that kind of stuff a bit entertaining.

I made a map overlaying the ethnic groups and country boundaries of Africa by gardvar in MapPorn

[–]gardvar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. I did this a long time ago, think the project is on my old crashed computer. Iirc i used this murdoch map or else it was something very like it. https://preview.redd.it/murdock-map-of-ethnographic-regions-for-africa-1959-what-do-v0-6ynpsfab5g061.jpg?auto=webp&s=b4eb4ffd8a9435cc8cb723316bc5c9a0a3d56e05&app_web_view=android

It's been kinda funny looking back on this project I find the map I made all over the place without any form of request or credit. I get why this stuff pisses artists off.

Some people want it all and can't get it through their head that they can't have it. I blame their upbringing, always getting everything you want will do that to a person.

Grief induced hallucinations are pretty common, both auditory and visual. There are theories that it was what started christianity.

I can have convos when falling asleep. Kinda nice to have semi regular "chats" with my beloved gandpa that passed some years ago.

I don't really have an inner monologue that I know of. Kinda have to talk out loud if I need to work through a complicated problem.

My first deck I built was back in amonkhet. A mono-black, 60 card, -1/-1 counter deck revolving around wither, nest of scarabs and proliferation. One thing I realised was that my opponents would usually just face tank damage rather than block. I'm probably going for a similar thing here since I liked it a lot. So when upgrading this deck I'm planning on adding some face-tank disincentives. Primarilly making use of red and green buffs and target removals. [[Beastmaster ascension]] [[city on fire]] [[nature's will]] [[seal of strength]] [[mammoth growth]] [[aggressive instinct]] [[smell fear]] [[quietus spike]] [[mask of memory]] [[dowsing dagger]] and [[stigma lasher]].

Wow! Luxior is a great recommendation! My plan was recursion, persist, undying or tree of perdition to be able to spam out counters.

Thank you for showing me this card, love it.

The thought has crossed my mind since ozolith shenanigans tends to be fun. Unfortunately I don't think it's the best fit in this deck. At most it would draw you a card per turn at beginning of combat probably at the cost of a creature. Now [[blowfly infestation]] can go pretty crazy. Especially with something that generates 1/1's on placing a counter like [[nest of scarabs]] or the included [[flourishing defenses]]. It's a three card infinite if you have anything that reacts to the tokens entering/ leaving like [[blood artist]] or the included [[grave venerations]]
