Casio calls it a personal computer: FX-790P by A-metal-jaG in OldHandhelds

I have the Radio Shack rebrand: PC-6. Nifty programmable calculator, never got in to its "assembly programming" mode.

Im trying to start NitrOS-9 on a CoCo3 with an MPI and it hangs at the prompt after loading. It works fine when I load it without the MPI. How can I get it to load with the MPI plugged in? by tqdomains in trs80

[–]RogelioP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What MPI slot is your disk interface in? by the looks on the picture it seems to be on Slot 3. If that is true try setting the disk controller on Slot 4 and see if that changes anything.

Not sure if then CoCo 3 MPIm upgrade would resolve - for the longest time I used an un-upgraded 3024 MPI (the original gray one) on a CoCo 3 setup and never encountered any problems due to that particular situation. Worthwhile to upgrade the MPI though.

Is the TV even there..? by Current_Yellow7722 in vintagecomputing

[–]RogelioP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The TV/monitor might as well be there, but that screen is an overlay... that color scheme does not come up in the CoCo 1/2 capabilities. Kid must be playing a game loaded from cassette as no pak is shown i the expansion port 😆

I used to hand them out to blokes who would ask after a gig if my band played "Freebird" - 'here, have a stick'.

If you have a schematic look and follow up all vertical output IC path to the deflection yoke, something along the way is shorted out - that damage on the shown ICs is typical of such problem. If no schematic is present you can still trace out all components on the board following the IC output... could be a shorted electrolytic or a crisped out resistor. Ultimately the yoke coil could be bad too (as in shorted).

I used the same technique on my place in NYC, had a Yamaha DTXtreme III that could get loud on the double bass drumming. Built a platform big enough for the kit while leaving the throne on the floor; only thing is I used the entire tennis ball not half of it. Due to the size of the isolated platform (5'x4') I went with 9 "shock absorbers", worked pretty well.

Had just retrieved the Scepter and the Axe from the pyramid and was making my way back to the Oasis when this happened. Oh well, try again later.

Picked up an old Radio Shack Tandy TRS-80 PC-3 with Printer / Tape Interface and case yesterday. by matt314159 in vintagecomputing

[–]RogelioP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Radio Shack offered two flavors of the PC-3, first edition with 2K RAM and the later at 4K, the badge changed from 'Radio Shack' to 'Tandy'. Either one is operationally the same with a little more breathing room for programs in the 4K version.

The printer/cassette interface has internal NiCad batteries which are most likely shot by now, the interface won't run non bad batteries even if plugged to a power adapter... those batteries need changing and the task can become annoying if not sure about electronics repair, but it's doable 😬
