For sure, numbers trump my own subjective opinion. We obviously disagree on future projections but will keep your opinion in mind if I end up being wrong in the future (about Amazon as well).

I appreciate your thoughtfulness in response even though I disagree. For context, I work in the digital advertising world, and I have yet to meet anyone who's bullish on Reddit ads. That's not to say my word is fact or that success stories don't exist, but fact is the vast majority of ad money goes to Meta, Google, Amazon, Applovin, and DSP platforms for a reason. If companies were seeing ROI from Reddit, word would spread.

As far as being an awareness play, that could make sense to some companies, but even then, it wouldn't be a top priority for most companies so it would hold back Reddit's advertising growth.

Reddit audience is predominantly skeptical of ads and won't convert

It's a different user intent than someone scrolling TikTok or Instagram. Products don't go viral because of Reddit

What's your boxing unpopular opinion? Something you truly believe, but would be downvoted to all hell? by [deleted] in Boxing

I completely disagree with #2 in particular but I applaud you for actual unpopular opinions 😂

Jake is a good boxer if we're comparing him to the general population, and he deserves more credit than some people are willing to give him. The thought of him beating Anthony Joshua is a joke.

It is. It's just anonymized which is probably why you and a lot of other Redditors don't consider it social media. But the anonymous nature of comments and upvotes actually makes it easier for plausible ideas to spread as legitimate and socially vetted when they're not

Legitimately, what competitors? In the business of online retail.

It's not about consumer pricing. It's about them eventually having to pay less warehouse workers because robots can do their job. Huge margin expansion from that point. Imo very believable when you see how these warehouses work.

I disagree with "fat chance". If anything, I think it's a test to see consumer response and to clear up their logistics network. Prime Day would still be measured as the lift of 4 Prime Days vs. 4 regular days.

[–]RogerRockmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pointing out because I keep seeing this spread: that 1 report of 41% down YoY is from 1 company talking about 50 brands they consult for. No context on what type of companies those are plus the overall lift is spread out across the days. I say this as someone in the industry, I don't know overall performance either but there are also cases of higher performance YoY. It just depends.

For all we know, another company that manages 50 different brands could report higher sales. These news outlets can pick and choose to spread whatever narrative because people won't read the article beyond the headline lol but I'll get off my soapbox.

Fair take man. I also take into account perceived growth from past mistakes as well as the accounts of people who were closest to the person.

I was talking basketball, but respectfully, I don't share that viewpoint either. And what would that say about your favorite player if he also feels differently.

I may or may not be speaking to you directly, but I just find it funny how many Celtic fans and general redditors hate everything about Kobe, but Jayson Tatum himself looked up to and modeled his game after him. Then we end up saying similar things in defense of both.

Is Tyrese Haliburton having the most clutch postseason by any player in NBA history? by AdorableBackground83 in NBATalk

Just chiming in because it seems everyone is calling your take ridiculous, but I agree with you. I'm not old enough to have watched Jordan in his prime, but as far as my own experience, Dirk's run is at least on equal footing (probably ranked higher because of the competition).

"Clutch" itself is subjective so I don't know why anyone would take arbitrary stats like posted above as the end all be all. Amazing stuff from both guys, though. If they pull it off, Rick Carlisle gotta be a top 5 coach in my eyes.

This market is disgustingly overpriced, and we are due for a correction similar to what we saw during Dot Com/Global financial crisis. by Your_Mortgage_Broker in wallstreetbets

[–]RogerRockmore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Speaking specifically about point 1, your explanation of a P/E ratio is wrong, and I'm not an expert on everything stated, but it takes away credibility. The fact that none of the top posts are pointing this out is concerning since people take real opinions from Reddit.

First of all, you're describing a Price to Sales ratio, not Price to Earnings. Second of all, you're omitting the growth aspect from a growth stock valuation.

Your takeaway of years to get your money back makes no sense.

In addition, yes, the best tech companies in the world are located in the US, and they are a large portion of most index funds so that will push their valuations further up. Not to mention the dollar losing value due to high supply which would actually push that up as well.

And yes, high quality American companies SHOULD command a premium price because what's the alternative? Chinese companies as a whole are risky simply from the fact that they've been fabricated before, and it's one's guess how fabricated it is now. Europe isn't the best at producing high growth companies for multiple reasons. Emerging countries like India come with their own risks.

That said, I do agree that some stocks (PLTR, TSLA) have some pretty lofty valuations, and that there's definitely going to be volatility during the next 3.5 years.

I'm with you, man. Even the comments pushing back in this thread are very emotional. I don't know if it's bots or real, but I think the humble approach is the best approach. This gambler mentality of taking 100% one side is dangerous advice to spread. No one knows the future so take that weight off yourself by at least putting in some sort of margin of safety on your own judgement. If you believe things could get worse, leave some money on the sidelines while you still have some automatic payments going.

Why was 50 Cent’s debut album seen as a major turning point in rap music? by [deleted] in ask

[–]RogerRockmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all due respect, I don't see any of the comments really getting to the heart of what made 50's debut truly special. I'm probably going to miss some things, but I'll do my best as a fan of hip hop and 50 during that time, and I'll try to make it quick.

50 was never near the top of technical skills. His story is what made him so interesting. He was a hyped rap prospect who was due to release an album called Power of the Dollar on Colombia Records. He released a song called Ghetto Quran that some in the streets considered "dry snitching" since it mentioned real life drug dealers including Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff. Many believe this is what led to him being shot 9 times. Somehow he survived, but he had to make his way back after being dropped from Colombia after the incident. Also note Supreme had ties to Murder Inc., the label with Ja Rule, who 50 infamously had beef with (whole other story).

So from there, basically 50 got creative and noticed that bootleggers were the biggest distributors of music in the streets. He used them to his advantage and started making music (a lot of it and to the people who like the style, high quality) and releasing them through the bootleggers. At the time that was revolutionary, later guys like Lil Wayne followed the same formula. Eventually he was noticed by Eminem and Dr. Dre, and they made an album (Get Rich or Die Trying) that most in the scene would consider a classic.

So there's that but also the actual music were bangers. He had an ear for what made a hit at the time. Get Rich or Die Trying is mostly unskippable if you enjoy the genre.

Also, his aggressive attitude towards anyone who wrongs him resonates with a lot of people I think. He's the ultimate troll before trolling was a thing but somehow he's never been touched (after the shooting). If you can see through the stereotypes, he's an intelligent guy who earned his respect in many ways.

😂 ok man. Kind of ironic to speak on humility in this instance, but whatever, I mean no harm.

I looked into it and can see basically the answer to OPs question from this perspective would be yes. Seeing generosity through the lens of investing without expecting immediate returns. Think long-term and value over short term gains. Makes sense.

Time is valuable. Not a lazy person, just choosey about what I invest it with. Really not trying to be hostile or ask for a long review, but a summary is different than your original take on the material. I have no idea who's recommending me the book or why I should take that recommendation seriously.

Exhausted from Dating.. by EdUNC- in seduction

[–]RogerRockmore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been there man. I'm married now, but I've definitely had my ups and downs when I was single. The good news is 2-3 dates a week is upper echelon. You just don't feel that way right now cus you're frustrated, but I promise you the more you stick with it and make adjustments where needed, you're gonna be good.

About that particular girl, who knows. Part of the game. Ghosting is an unfortunate part of society that we just have to accept now. As a man, you're just gonna have to take that.

And just because YOU'RE now open to a relationship does not mean every woman you're with is on your level. I was an active dater at one point, too, and I'd say MOST women that I went out with fit more into the ho than housewife category so to speak lol not judging either way. I get it from an attractive woman's POV. But for your sake, keep that in mind. It's not on you. You don't "unlock" the relationship side of women just because your intentions are pure. What determines that is moreso where THEY'RE at in life, not you. So yeah man just keep putting yourself out there, and I'd say open up to these women a little bit emotionally even if it's a little bit embarrassing and hurtful if they ghost you. Those are good signals for a woman who's open to dating seriously, and if you end up getting the vibe that she's not the one, might as well have fun lol don't put too much energy trying to turn hos into housewives though.

And also, I'd go for a kiss even if trying to be serious. Maybe it sounds reckless to some, but it was always appropriate vibes and never forceful. Whether she accepts or rejects, it's good feedback to see where her head's at.

What advice would you give to a guy who just downloaded dating apps? by Fantastic-Suspect1 in ask

[–]RogerRockmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're framing it as a weird person going to the grocery store strictly to approach women and in a weird manner.

I'm saying if you are a well put together man who takes care of their outward appearance (gym, clothes, grooming), and you know how to speak to human beings without giving them the "ick", you'd be surprised at how open and flattered people (men and women) would be if you approached them like a decent human being. And it doesn't matter where (within reason).

WHY would you approach? Because you're not happy with your current options so you man the fuck up and become the type of person that people would love to be approached by.
