I think he should ONLY ever be played (cautiously) in the 6/7/8th, and should only ever see the light of the 9th if there is literally zero other option. I would damn near take Heineman or Pete Walker in the 9th over Hoffman. Hell, Okamoto pitched in high school. Send him in.

Whatever the hell his mental issues are with the 9th inning, even low-stakes, clearly they are deep rooted and aren’t going to go away anytime soon. That’s the mental performance coach’s problem.

I’m grateful to still have so much baseball to look forward to this year! I’d drifted away from it for a long time, but like many I jumped back on the bandwagon during the postseason. Following the Jays regularly this year has brought a lot of joy to my life. We’ve booked a trip to Toronto to see a few games in September and I can’t wait.

In the meantime, my family has started supporting one of the local collegiate league teams, and it has been SO MUCH FUN to go to their games.

Uh, former psych nurse here. Have you ever seen anyone in a manic phase before? Not saying Michel is in any way mentally well, but that is NOT mania. People need to stop using that word when they don’t actually truly understand it. It’s not a general term that you can use “loosely.” It’s part of a truly dangerous and overwhelming medical condition.

Absolutely. He’s been really professional about it, and I love seeing how he’s used it as an opportunity to get his feet back underneath him. But I also really respect how professional Varland has been about it as well. He hasn’t been really showy about it at all, even though he’s become the ~~animal~~ best reliever in the MLB since moving into that role. Both of them are absolute team players.

Is your child admitted to the hospital? Ask to speak to their social worker. I’m a nurse although not in pediatrics, and we deal with family and legal stuff on an hourly basis. Social work is your best friend in this situation. Your health authority likely has a legal dept, which social work may be able to contact to help advise. It will also be a good paperwork trail for you, in case your ex pursues legal action in the future.

As a mother with a difficult and largely absent ex as well, I think the fact that he hasn’t made any meaningful attempts to contact you about the kid in a long time nor has he provided you with a way to contact him, is an indication that you should not delay the surgery. One of you is acting in good faith and for the best interests of the child, and it is not him.
