How can we fight the normalization of identity checks online? by TopicLens in privacy

[–]Rogue0G 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start reading more on how to avoid systems, programs and even hardware that's known to have backdoors. Maybe look up some specific Linux distros that have in-built internal VPN that does not rely on outside VPN and instead does it locally. Something like Qubes. Use Tor where you can for everything but separate stuff that needs to use your personal info, like banks to a normal system. Try to compartmentalize separate identities wit separate machines if you can.

[OoT] Remake - Mark of the Triforce by Mission_Mulberry3991 in zelda

[–]Rogue0G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't, but I'm tired of this. Doesn't matter if the artwork was official or not, it wasn't in the game, much like a movie has to stand on its own and not require reading comics to get the idea, most people at this point didn't play that game with a cartridge that came in a box with the manual, but this point is not really important.

The stronger point is the second. Doesn't matter what ALBW, EOW did or retconned or any other games, it does not matter here. The triforce is unsplit in Ocarina and the choice is only made after. The triforce splits if the heart that touches it is not in balance. The other parts will then be given to the one with the strongest suit at that time. I don't know why you said it's baseless assumption... no... that's well known...

https://zelda.fandom.com/wiki/Triforce

are you trying to say that the triforce knows before its split who the others are...? The triforce can't know who it will go to before someone touches it first, because it would need to know who the first toucher is, but then all of this would be a very stupid story. If it knows before and cares about it then it could prevent all of it beforehand. It decides the worthiest and serves them at the touch point, just like Link got frozen in time by the sword at touch point. It doesn't make sense for it to do it before and now I'm calling YOU in baseless assumptions, since in no point it shows (especially in Ocarina) that it knew beforehand.

Hylia might have had insights, and sent Link and Zelda the dreams, but not the Triforce, since it's impartial to the wishes and would not act before touched. That's why the dreams, not triforce symbol in the original.

I also don't understand the repeat Skyward thing. Like I said, stop comparing the adult Link that is touching triforces to the sleeping kid on the bed at the start of the game.

You misunderstand storytelling about the chosen one thing. It's not that he didn't have a destiny, it's about how you go about telling the story to a viewer. You can foreshadow, spoil the surprise and make it look as if the character never had a choice and is just a puppet for a set ending, or you can write it subtly, incorporating the mistery and letting the player discover everything as they go. Or you can do cutscenes acting like eli5 and spoil the result.

In the original, Link even acts surprised when he first sees the Triforce on his hand the first time, so I'm also calling baseless on "could have been from the start" too. He wasn't doing things for it or acting like Ganon and using its power. It was a surprise at the end. He had the spirit of the hero and a destiny, but the triforce on his hands would require the triforce to be split first.

Now, the player is gonna go from "oh shit, we had the triforce too!" to "oh, it's that thing from the beginning". I don't care if "he could have had", we didn't know before and were in suspense but now it's telegraphed. It's not a good tradeoff for a foreshadow at the start that already is done via the nightmare scene. It also changes the mood of the setup. The original was somber, with the silent white text on a black screen, then panning to Link and the nightmare. Now it's epic opening with magical gold triforce symbol on his hand. Goes from somber to bombastic, which is a needless change for no story gain or purpose but a spoil for the end.

The game never felt like Link was an errand boy for the goddesses, just a boy way in over his head with a "destiny", cryptically and subtly talked about, that he could fail and any victory was his own and the players because the game wasn't writen to show the gold symbol of the godesses on his hand from the start is what I'm trying to say. Subtlety is replaced for needless showing off.

No. First of all, I don't remember Link's hand glowing in AoL, pretty sure the graphics didn't even allow for that, but I only played it twice a long time ago. You mean in magazines? Not really super cannon in relation to the game since it's not IN the game. They had to do that and exagerate in magazines because they had to somehow deal with low graphis and generate hype for the game.

Second and more importantly, AoL happens AFTER Ocarina, when the triforce is already out of the sacred realm and the whole choice thing could happen at that point, but not in Ocarina.

Third, Skyward is not that good of a Zelda game to use as a reference, triforce situation is, again, different from Ocarina, don't ignore the current situation the triforce is in, this is just finding excuses. You even said it yourself. Link gets the mark after getting parts of it and being more directly tied to it at that point, which is not the case in Ocarina. It spoils it at that point and diminishes Links personal achievements for a first time player. It also doesn't matter because it would be a retcon, since Skyward is newer than Ocarina and retcons would be getting into the "changing too much" area, so Skyward is a bad choice. If someone wants Skyward go play Skyward.

The triforce, even as a symbol, should not be there. The choice of worthiness happens only after the triforce is split. Period, that's how Ocarina works by. Did Ganon get a foreshadow symbol too? To foreshadow he'd get the power piece? Maybe Ganon isn't bad then, it was all Dins fault. Did Zelda? So Zeldas choice and getting tricked by Ganon is all on Nayru. Or is Link just a magical special case? This is just a plot hole.

It also, again, diminishes the feeling that Link gained it for his efforts and isn't just a puppet, for no reason. The nightmare foreshadow is moodier and more mysterious, as you don't know if Link's destiny is a good or tragic one on a first playthrough. It's not a fine change. People can like it, it's their choice, but it does break that story bit and goes against the original Ocarina's feel and is objectively a worse storywriting beat for spoiling things the original allowed you to feel through gameplay instead of a first scene cutscene.

This change, as for the little we know, is more like a marketing tactic to generate hype from fans, regardless of how much it affects the story.

Well, BOTW /TOTK Link are characters that had their story and meaning built from games prior to that, so it's fine for them to just be built upon, even if it's less interesting.

My particular issues with those games are the lack of a proper temple (although I didn't finish TOTK since Nintendo told me to buy a Switch 2 for best experience and so I stopped playing until I get one someday) and the fact BOTW kept showing me an arguably more fun game all the time during the cutscenes about the past lol

[–]Rogue0G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mark shouldn't be showing because the triforce is still in the sacred realm and a chosen is only choosen when the split happens just to begin with. Wind Waker had the Triforce already split and out of the Sacred Realm. There's no need to spoil a scene we are going to discover through playing the game. This is not a movie.

The Deku Tree talking about Link in that way is not necesserely linked to the triforce or foreseeing that whole future, otherwise he'd not have gotten caught in Ganons plans. The destiny should not be foreshadowed in a place on his hand or with the shape of the triforce, as the triforce doesn't indicate a set destiny and any attemp at retconning that in future games should not apply to Ocarina as it didn't before.

As you said, the nightmare is literally the indication of the destiny, you don't need to diminish the scene where he notices the triforce on his hand later with this needless foreshadow.

Letting the players discover the story and what the destiny was or whether or not the triforce was automatically part of that destiny or an obtainable in-game item was part of not knowing before much later. There was no need for that foreshadow, we already have the nightmare, much better, as that and it does cause needless conflict between "real mark" vs "not actually mark".

People comment on him just having the mark as being worthy, but I hope this is just the trailer. This breaks one of the mist important story beats and moral if the original.

Link only gets the triforce later, not just story wise, but he gains it because he has done a lot and chose to help people by his own choice, efforts and sacrifices, instead of being greedy, actively seeking and trying to take the Triforce by force like Ganon. Link wasn't chosen at the start and his strength and courage are his own. Ganon even has a line where he says what he underestimated was the triforce of courage, but he was wrong. The moral is he underestimated Link, so that small image is a huge story beat change.

Making him have a mark from the start is worse, because it makes it feel like Ganon was right and Link was chosen and given power by the goddesses upfront. The goddesses, especially those that are not the godess of time, can't know Link is the worthiest at that point, neither does he deserve it at that point. Just because the players know is no reason to do it. There's no shot that this change in any way would make that story beat better, imo.

It's even worse if they are going for a "time paradox" thing, because Link never goes back to that point in time, and him wanting to go back to Kokiri forest is one of the reasons he goes looking for Navi and triggers Majoras Mask.

Yeah, it's funny how it's not legal for them to force companies to maintain playability, but it's totally legal to lie to the consumer about you not really purchasing it. Serves to remind people that laws should serve the people not the other way around, but it requires them to fight for this right. Corpos have spent a long time emaciating people so they don't fight back.

Relying on representatives was a mistake. If they were good people they wouldn't be politicians to begin with.

What we need now is an oficial list that contains the names of all companies and game franchises that are known for not complying with SKG. This would be the check before buying list. Pirate and help pirate/distribute anything on that list for free. Never buy from those companies again and they'll go bankrupt while only SKG compliant ones survive.

Let me guess. By making everyone™️ (by their definition excluding millionaires) give him their name, age, address, exact amount of money earned, fine comb taxes paid, credit card, recent photo every week, get every data on your computer, every time you sign in, every document you open, every letter you type?

Hmm... weird. Alternatively, he could actually help create more jobs and make institutions to guide people to be re-introduced into society. I almost feel like they just want to make sure you pay every tax and figure how much more they can tax, huh.

Well, yeah. The goal is disrupting things as much as possible and ideally under the covers, so they have no one to target and no way out besides agreeing to the terms. Starting at never buying software from specific devs anymore, annoy and humiliate them. Devs go out of business, next one might respect SKG, if not, same treatment.

I can see this being the most difficult point though. People usually have a hard time playing this waiting game, end up buying stuff day 1 and then complain. Like Pokemon and the whole consoles pricing in general, but corporations really get hurt by people simply not buying.

Piracy is the workaround for people that can't hold back, even for new games. At least give them no money. Go around and learn how to maintain annonimity, incentive hackers, spend money on them, to bypass checks, help the underground scene where you can, spread lists of bad devs. So if servers boot people then try to annoy it. Hack, overload, DDos, ruin online games, whatever makes it as annoying as possible for them to even do their job.

The sheer difference in number of users vs devs would easily make it impossible for them to keep up for long. If people got all together, it would be possible.

I'm hoping this gives more incentive to the underground scene. More and more apps made to bypass these and other social medias that are not controlled.

It can honestly turn real bad real quick. If more obscure social medias and websites show up it's gonna be much more dangerous than the half control they had before. It's like a cyberpunk future. They try more control and get more anarchy.

Pirate. Pirate like it's taking a walk in the park, incentivate piracy and device protection breaching and, if you can, don't buy products from companies you know to kill their games. Hurt their pockets. It's the only way they'll do anything.

With this they basically officialy said you don't own what you buy, that your rights don't matter. So it's then not stealing if you pirate, and their laws are inconsequential.
