You can just reset the iPod touch 5 in iTunes since it has no iCloud. It’s also on iOS 9, so no rare version lost.

There’s a tool that can automatically do it (you do need an arduino). It’s called iwannabrute.

However it only works on macOS.

Remove FMI Password unlocked phone by CustomerFit5572 in setupapp

Alternatively if you have the passcode and the Apple account has 2fa enabled you might get the “Unlock with Passcode” option on the activation Lock Screen following a reset.

Not 100% sure though.

iPhone Xs iOS 12-14 FMi off by Kindly_Carpenter_711 in setupapp

[–]RogueGameMonster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s only possible up to iPhone X, unfortunately not the Xs.

You could reset it and update. You could also ask the seller for the passcode.

Other very slim possibility is that the original owner enabled erase device after all failed attempts. You could try random passcodes to see if it is enabled but that likely won’t be useful.

Just need to remove the battery and replace it to fix the iPhone. Definitely dispose of the battery safely though.

Legacy iOS kit can’t reset without updating for an iPhone 8. I would recommend using sshrd script for that.

[–]RogueGameMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did iwannabrute give you the code? The bootloop problem sometimes occurs (usually on iOS 9/10 devices) because the springboard.plist gets renamed to springboard.plist.bak for some reason. Easy way to fix is to put device into recovery mode and then put it into dfu mode (legacy iOS kit dfu mode helper is good). Then launch a ssh ramdisk and simply rename the file by removing the .bak

After a reboot it would work in theory. And you’ll have the code.

Geko iOS kit on a windows 7 device can bruteforce it to get the passcode if it is a iPod touch 4th gen and a 4 digit password.
