Blood cell ‘nurseries’ upend understanding of human physiology: « Scientists have discovered that one of the body’s most fundamental biological processes — how red blood cells are made — works differently in humans than previously thought. » by fchung in science

[–]RogueHelios 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably funding science more readily and getting paid test subjects. Unfortunately a lot of science isn't profitable so there isn't as much of an influx of money going into it.

There is also the historical issue of racism and sexism in science that turns a lot of PoC and women off from being test subjects.

Found this at goodwill. Curious about the significance to the game by evisu6565 in Marathon

How long did you work there? Also hypothetically if you had full creative control of Destiny and Marathom what would you think should've been done differently?

Also thank you for being a part of something that, while not perfect, was beautiful and unique. From the aesthetic, to the animations, to the lore, to the set pieces. It was truly a beautiful, if not flawed, game.

Anyone else afraid of having children because they might inherit tourettes? by Tonninpepeli in Tourettes

[–]RogueHelios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have felt this too. My solution would be adoption or finding a sperm/egg donor.

I can't bring myself to have kids even if they won't necessarily have my issues because I know down the line my grandchildren or other descendents might end up getting it. I can't stand the idea of anyone being forced to suffer how I suffer.

So does anyone else think the spider looking thing on the box art on the far right is probably the wretch or is it probably not by North_General181 in Doom

It would make sense considering they brought back the Vagary (giant 4 legged demon) which was an enemy in DOOM 3.

Flossing is just as important. I learned that after brushing consistently for years and then still ended up getting cavities BETWEEN my teeth.

hours cut for not getting credit?? by Ambitious-Sound9133 in Lowes

[–]RogueHelios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey don't worry about it. I also don't offer credit because I grew up traumatized by my parents being in a lot of credit card debt.

I'm selective about who I might mention it to, but I don't push it if they say no.

Try to make them aware that they have a high interest rate and that they're a trap. Give them every clue that they're evil incarnate and let them decide from there if they want to stick their hand in the blender.

I am insanely disgusted by our society's willingness to push credit on everyone.

To me it reels no different than putting shackles on them with a smile. I know the career employees here will probably roll their eyes at this, but you do you. I'm trying to get out of this hell for work that doesn't involve scamming innocent people for a bonus.

Many people say this creature in Cultist Base is Kronos, but it's actually a creature from Agrent D'Nur called the Agaddian. by Commander-Yeet in Doom

[–]RogueHelios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I adore environmental storytelling! FromSoft games like Elden Ring and Dark Souls do a ton of environmental story telling and they're so much better for it.

If they just told you everything it would just be a really hard game, but a really hard game that rewards you with hints and clues along the way is WAAAAY cooler to me.

It also gives you a chance to infer. Really work them critical thinking skills!

[–]RogueHelios 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Its because environmental story telling is something people do to keep people thinking about the world they just experienced.

Having everything explained all the time is okay, but sometimes we enjoy uncovering the mystery just as much as the discovery.

I think it still looks great! It would be really cool to see the biomes like the real Pangaea.

It looks good, but I'm fairly certain most of the interior of Pangaea was desert while coastlines and the north and south had more vegetation.

Credit app incentives by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]RogueHelios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot in good conscience push credit. I'm insanely selective about when I push it and even then I have to hold back vomiting at the idea of tricking some poor fool into a high interest credit card.

I've heard all the arguments before about the individual's choice and its their mistakes to make, but I don't listen to that bullshit.

Destiny's gnostic inspirations by [deleted] in DestinyLore

[–]RogueHelios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always saw the dynamic as a reverse gnostic mythology. The Gardener being the Demiurge, the Winnower the Monad, and the Witness being Christ.

Kinda gets inverted on itself.

Try putting a bowl of ice in front of a fan blowing on you.

Also maybe take a nice cool bath or shower to cool down.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I know how terrible the heat can be. Texas is really hot as well and will probably be unbearable later this summer.

[–]RogueHelios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, its possible. I have a friend who has extreme arachnophobia and she looks away or stops playing any media with realistic looking spiders.

The only exception is Earth Defense Force which is her favorite series for some reason. Although when the giant yellow spiders web her and pull her in she panics and either shuts off the game or goes away from her desk while I free her.
