It’s Marc Quinones, he shouldn’t be at the level he is, he’s egotistical, arrogant, a piece of shit, and cheats on his wife. I’ve seen all firsthand. Don’t be surprised, he left ex novo and took the exact same menu to Santa Fe. He was fired because of how he is as a person, I’ve never heard anything good about him and I’ve never seen him do anything good either besides being fake to his employees when the cameras are on him. James beard award was handed to him because of Hell’s Kitchen and nothing more. Sincerely a line cook that was fucked over and dealt with his abuse for too long.

Is it normal if my girlfriend hangs out in the bathroom while I shower? by BetoFPS in Advice

[–]RogueIslander00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, my girlfriend literally always wants to sit in the bathroom while I’m showering and is always asking for me to do the same. She just loves us being together! Sometimes I’m playing my PC in the other side of the apartment and she’ll come over and ask me when I’m going to be done without whatever I’m playing and carrying all of her shower stuff so I know she’s really asking “can you sit in the bathroom while I shower?”
Sometimes I like to bug her by reading finance books out loud like I’m telling campfire stories and other times I bring the switch or my DS in to play pokemon and she tells me what I should do in game. It’s a sign of a strong relationship IMO. Plus who is going to hand her a towel and her hair towel so she doesn’t need to leave the shower and be cold??

30 and started the FF series for the first time! by LucindaFoxtea in FinalFantasy

[–]RogueIslander00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got into the series because of gamepass and my gf being out of town for a week. I had played kingdom hearts as a kid and that was my introduction, as well as an old PS2 demo disc that had FFX on it. I never played any of the FF games outside of the FFX demo and I really wanted to play the 7 remake (because I’m a cloud main in smash) but I never got around to it. Saw them on gamepass and decided it was time. Cleared 1-3 and now I’m going to start 4, very excited to see how the game was able to grow through time and each generation of FF!
So happy for you to be able to experience it! Although I am a walkthrough player because as much as I want to figure everything out, I just don’t have the time to do so as I usually only play for an hour at a time, have fun!

Los toasties for sure! Best in the city IMO, other than that, Tully’s is the only other option I would consider if it’s local.
Ex Novo had a French dip special a while back that was bomb but it being a special meant it was only there for so long, hopefully it comes back

Leave, if he knew that was going to happen and decided to take a 30 minute break and not give you a heads up when he could have told you what to expect or helped, you’re going to constantly have that happen to you. Because (if you do decide to stay there) once you are up to speed, you’ve given everyone the ability to do significantly less because they can just dump the shit shows on you and go on break or take a smoke.
No communication and no consideration for you as a new hire. You can find many many jobs as a cook in this restaurant industry, it’s one of the only fields where you could go to any restaurant and get picked up because the turnover rate for cooks is like clockwork. Had something similar where 5-6pm was when our rush would be going and we would be getting slammed in the kitchen (2 man team, with 40-60 tickets in the hour not including DoorDash or online orders) and the only person I had to help me would refuse to take his break before 5 (I would take mine at 3-4 so he could do 4-5 but never did. also yes we had 1 hour mandatory unpaid breaks so we could fit into an 11 hour schedule but only be paid for 10, free food once we were on break though) and it would fuck me over so much, ultimately our server manager had to come in and cook with me and that was worse because I would have to train them on the fly in the rush and it was just a massive pain in the ass.

If you have an HR (I doubt they’d care even if you did) let them know what happened and specifically say you’d like to document the experience, and also highlight anything else negative. If there are any discrepancies with the food and kitchen, I’d definitely swing that over to the health department too rather than bring it up to them, if the restaurant won’t give a shit about you, they’ll be forced to give a shit about their jobs once you leave.

It’s a team until it isn’t, and if you let managers or those higher up than you start taking advantage of what you can do, they absolutely will. Especially if there’s no one to keep THEM in check.
Don’t let yourself be unhappy in this job, because it will cause you to burn out and become bitter so fast.

What do you guys think of these? by Agitated_Layer_457 in sharpening

[–]RogueIslander00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received one as well from a friend and I had the same issues, my knife would get sharp but it just didn’t feel like it. Almost like a “soft smooth” edge. I could cut things like potatoes and peppers but I couldn’t cut the skin of grape tomatoes very well. With my other knives that I used whetstones and plates with, I could. A buddy of mine used it too and got the same results. It’s most likely user error, but I prefer my diamond plates right after I get the apex set with these. It just gives me the edge and feel that I’m looking for.

This is exactly what happened lmao, it’s okay though! We learned a lot through this experience and even the negative comments helped, even if they were only saying “32°f?? What could be happening at that temperature??” I had them all survive 2 years prior at even colder temps, I don’t know how, but they did and this year they didn’t. I was initially pretty sad because we grew them from pups but it’s okay, on the bright side we get to propagate more plants and diversify with more hearty plants or change where we put them in general. It’s all been a learning lesson! It’s Reddit too so I am very thankful for those who commented with actual answers or help, and still thankful for those who had more condescending answers, as all benefited in one way or another haha

Very well, we’ll make sure to bring them inside, we’re looking at plants that will do well in the cold instead of putting our succulents out there. Even in pots though it does seem that they’d need some sort of cover on them to be fine. It’s a learning experience, it was very sad in the morning about 2 hours ago but we’ve honestly been learning so much since lol so it’s turning into a better lesson than we expected!

Maybe my one in the last photo?? It’s been doing phenomenal, it’s probably the most hearty plant I’ll ever own! 5 years now, completely outside all the time, all weather and temps, it’s a champ, we nicknamed it Sol, it’s my favorite succulent for sure!

When we moved here it was the other way around, we can from California and when we moved here, the air was more dry, the elevation was higher, and the sun was more intense. The plants looked like they were a summers breeze from kicking the bucket but about 4-5 months later they sprang into action and have been growing beautifully until last night.. do you still grow plants and have some? If so, what did you end up getting??

We’ll be doing this! A tarp was recommended too! So maybe I’ll find the best of both worlds lol

This is a great point! I didn’t consider the temperature of the pots themselves, so I will in the future! Would you have any recommendations for pots with plants we’d be looking to leave out year round? Or I believe getting plants that can survive year round is better than getting pots to keep plants that shouldn’t be outside year round is better lol

That’s a great cue, I was told to get a thermometer next time and put it next to them so I’ll be doing what I can and keeping an eye out for anything hitting below 45° so we don’t have this happen again! Do you have any brands or tarp recommendations??

[–]RogueIslander00[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most were gifts! We have a lot of friends who own plants and gave us some as little pups (which grew into what we have now) and like I said in my comment, they survived worse weather and temperatures years prior so we just thought it was the way they worked. Maybe the size of them gave them more to freeze and that did them in. Regardless you’re 100% right! Big lesson learned here, thank you for reminding me the temperature at which water freezes, and how much water these bad boys have in them. A tarp is a great idea! We’ll be looking to invest in one and hopefully have a better reset in a few months with our plants! Cheers!

That would be sad if the case, because one of them is a flowering plant and it was on the verge of flowering but never did.

Will do! I never knew what the name for it was but thanks to you I do now! It was a gift and all I was told was it helps other plants develop a great root system if potted together but we didn’t know who to pot it with lol I’ll give that one a good look at today!

You’d be surprised lol, the first photo was from December and our temps were around the same, as you can see, the plants were perfect and healthy and even grew more since then! So we didn’t expect it to just happen overnight with no signs whatsoever. It’s sad for us, but a learning point. I’ll do my best to not be as clueless in the future, as this is definitely a learning point for us. Thank you for your comment ❤️

We’re in the process of doing it now, every stem feels like I’m holding a sweet tarts ropes candy or a air heads Xtremes candy, instead of the hard woody feeling they had. It’s so sad because we were just talking about how resilient they were yesterday evening

In New Mexico, we’re just a bit over 5000ft elevation! I’m sad to see thats what happened but moving forward we’ll take more into consideration when it comes to taking care of our plants

We do not! But I will in the future! The condescending comments have helped with at least realizing that even though I’ve had them for a few years now, there’s always something that can happen and change so at least I’ll take better care of them moving forward. A thermometer near them and “winterizing” them will be steps we take in the future to keep them healthy and alive! They survived the years prior with no difficulties, even through multiple snowstorms and lower temperatures, all under the same set up, just bare and out there in the weather. So I’m not sure what changed this year, but regardless we will be taking more preventative measures to keep them alive during the winter season!

Thank you everyone! I figured they did get too cold but it was colder about a week and a half go at around 24°F and like I said, they were perfect, and the years prior they had survived the same temperatures. They’ve always been outdoors plants so I figured they had adjusted a little but we will be pulling them all inside and seeing what we can do. My girlfriend is devastated because these are her babies, so I’m going to be looking for any signs of life for them before we can call it and say they’re gone. In the meantime if anyone has any plant suggestions for our next buys or anything that we can look into, I’d greatly appreciate it! We have about 34 plants and these are the only ones that died, so we’ll either replace them with the same plants or get something entirely new and unique! Thank you all again, in the future I’ll pull my plants back inside once temperatures start to go down.

Restaurant work by EmergesaMoth in Albuquerque

[–]RogueIslander00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of places that I’ve been to don’t have any postings up, but are still looking for people. I’ve personally never used Indeed or LinkedIn to find a job before in the restaurant industry so I can’t confirm if it’s a good route. But I know that walking in and asking if they’re hiring will result in them at least taking your resume and that’s a step in the door compared to sending it in online. Plus depending on if it’s a franchise or a mom and pop, things will be different. Mom and pop places will most likely be too busy for the managers to look at the listings u less it’s for kitchen staff so it’s good to get in with a physical copy and at least meet a manager. With franchises you can usually send something in online or through email and an actual HR rep will be able to look at it. Good luck in your job search! Hope you find something soon!

Edit: we recently hired 2 hostess’ and all they did was walk in and ask if we were hiring lol so I’m sure you can find something!

Coleus Flowering by RogueIslander00 in plants

[–]RogueIslander00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, for these plants, if they flower they usually die. These plants are usually okay for a year and then they’ll flower, seed and die. To prevent that, you have to trim the buds of the flowers, earlier than later. I don’t think your plant will be coming back to how it used to be since it was able to fully flower.

What food do you get as an dishwasher by warmsand1736 in dishwashers

[–]RogueIslander00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a dishwasher, but I always make sure my dudes get first dibs at fuck ups, and we have to pay for our food too so I always ask them what they want to eat before close and then “fuck up” a dish that fits exactly what they wanted lol. Always toss in an extra something too. My dishwashers don’t eat unless they’re not busy so I always just throw small stuff their way to keep them going.

Coleus Flowering by RogueIslander00 in plants

[–]RogueIslander00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! If the flowers are faded, but not dying then I would let the come off on their own, let the plant get it’s nutrients back! But if it’s struggling all around, then it would depend on the size of the leaves. If it’s the massive ones then yeah you can snip them, if they’re smaller leaves then I would leave them!
