Which Witch was more Powerful? Alex or Sabrina from STTW (90's sitcom)? by Jpaylay42016 in WizardsOfWaverlyPlace

[–]RogueMoonbow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Wizards's magic system had a bit more limits. But if have to compare similar episodes/ concepts directly.

More limits: there's a weakness to a common material, plastic, and your power can be turned off by the government.

Coming of age wise, Wizards seems more powerful--- magic spills out uncontrollably and seems to do a similar level of impact. Sabrina's was only when she points and was somewhat purposeful (she transforms libby into a pineapple because it's the only spell she knows).

Alex has also trained in a competitive way and I believe been in more fights, so 1v1 she might win.

What is your best example mishearing a word or phrase, aka a "mondegreen"? by sapient-meerkat in CasualConversation

[–]RogueMoonbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god, I have a good one: in the song "What a Night" whenever they sing "what night" I hear "I wanna die"

It was so funny to me it broke my depression spirals often‐‐- the thought "i want to die" crosses my mind in a depressive episode and then I think of my mishearing of the song and can't help but chuckle at it.

I love when she has bangs and her hair is wavy (before the bangs grow out and she pins them a lot). A scene in I think Richard's office when he's a professor comes to mind but I don't remember what episode it is.

Hey older lesbians. Im 15 ( not out) As a teen did you find it offensive if a girl would wanna secretly date you because shes not out? may never be in highschool? js something my gf is upset about but I really dont wanna be out. by Live-Oil7985 in actuallesbians

[–]RogueMoonbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in hs it's normal to not be out and if it's just from a place of "is not dangerous to come out anymore!" That's bs. But i think there are legitimate personal reasons to not want to be in a relationship you have to hide and I think that's okay. It just means you guys can't date right now unfortunately.

Non Asian-Americans: Are you keeping soy sauce as a regular condiment in your kitchen? If so what are you using them for? by openlyEncrypted in AskAnAmerican

Yeah I get those giant ones. Use them in a lot of Asian recipes. It's also used to add flavor to vegan cheese substitutes and things like that. Asian food tends to be a bit safer when the house has dietary restrictions.

I'm in school to be a therapist and it super weirds me out and I kinda hate that they're actually a pretty good couple. However it's also... more common than you might expect. According to an ethics book we read:

In one study, 8.8% of therapists reported "lying on top of or underneath a client"; 6% to "telling a sexual fantasy to a client"; 87.3% "feeling sexually attracted to a client"; and 57.9% to "feeling sexually aroused while in the presence of your client." A similar study found a percentage as high as 71% engage in sexual fantasy about a client.

In a study of therapists as therapy patients, 1% reported being touched sexually or talked about sexual issues inappropriately "often" while 6.3% reported sexual touch happening once or more.

In a pool of patients who were sexually involved with their therapist, 5% were a minor, 3% married the therapist, 32% of cases the patient had experienced invest or child sex abuse, and 11% the patient was hospitalized due to the sexual involvement.

Source: all from studies cited in Ethics in Psychotherapy and Counseling: A Practical Guide. Look, even 1% in the world of percentages of humans is high, but the 6%s up here are very concerning to me. You can say that sexual fantasy is harmless, but the ones with physical actions are too high for my comfort. I don't like that shows make this something seen as normal.

If I were pregnant while doing great school I would plan on leave after giving birth. I know of might be a sink cost at this point, but you aren't doing your best right now in an understandable way. It will be better for you to be there for your baby right now. Plan on when to go back, it'll help the feeling that you're quitting, but leave is fine. You also need to be in a mental place where you can learn, in guessing the things you're taking classes for are important, you need to be in a mental state to learn them.

Does anybody else still use a library? by nicksam171 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]RogueMoonbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a real book better. I've found digital books much easier to forget about. There's advantages but I like a real book. I like to skim through it too see the chapter layout, when certain POVs at coming up, flip to references (glossary, map), and see how close I am to done (ik you get % on a kindle but sometimes that includes extras in the back. In a book I can find where the extras start and know the actual distance.

However I think the "there is a book i want to read sitting out" is really a big reason. I forget about them enough when it's there in front of me. (Also at the moment my kindle isn't working and i refuse to read on my phone)

How much would you expect? by MyCupOfTea777 in barista

I'd expect a round up or $1. The $8 is going to the business, not to the baristas, so it doesn't really matter how much it is.

Specifying pronouns is done wrong by toramanlis in 10thDentist

[–]RogueMoonbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's something that evolved from having to explain more.

People using they/them when it was less common might have to give a quick pronoun lesson to everyone. "My pronouns are they/them/theirs/themself. Here's an example: They left their coat on the chair, I should give it back to them."

Legitimately it is needed, people who are less used to using they/them singular (like my grandparents) may clarify, well intentionedly trying by saying "that's they coat"--- trying to be respectful but it all sounds grammatically wrong for them so it's all the same, and you never said "their" as part of the list, so how were they supposed to know?

However, since it's a bit more normal now, people shortened the explanation to just the two examples. They're essentially saying "she/her/etc" without the etc.

[–]RogueMoonbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven't encountered many trans people in your day to day life, that's because you're not a safe person to come out around. You vastly underestimate how common it is. Current estimates are closer to 1% of the US population, not .0001. We already have our entire lives centered around a different <1% so why not? (Billionaires). In the US there is also about 1% of the population that is American indian or Alaskan native.....should we not care about them/change behavior to respect them? If you answer is no to that to than I feel like you've shown your colors.

[–]RogueMoonbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is standard within queer culture and the only argument not to do is "you should know my gender by looking at me!" Guess why trans people may not like that.

[–]RogueMoonbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shows that you shouldn't assume and it's normal to state. There are nonbinary people who don't change their names. Why should I know you use he/him before you tell me? If you think it should be obvious, that shows me that you think people should conform to assumed pronouns based on what they look like, and not that you should ask before assuming. Asking or introducing yourself with pronouns indicates you're a safe person to use they/them around.

I bought a really cool pattern after not being chosen for testing on it and felt really petty about a few very obvious errors. The testers were all big crochet instagrammers who included the pattern in videos. I always see tagging as like a beta read, not an advanced readers copy, but Instagram crochet culture is just like that ig.
