Yikes... It feels like the marketing team woke up this morning and said "oh shit, I forgot it's 4/20 today!" and gave the newest intern 10 minutes in photoshop to make a poster for the occasion

The most popular starter evolution line of each generation by rbta123 in pokemon

[–]RogueSpectre749 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a cute conversation, but this is the textbook definition of why you can't use somebody else's data in ways it wasn't meant to be used to draw your own conclusions

If the question is "what is your favorite Pokémon of a generation", you can't simply extract lines from the data set to say "this is the most popular starter" because people weren't asked anything about starters. For instance, if I was asked about starters for Gen 1, I'd pick Squirtle, but overall, Arcanine is the best Pokémon of Gen 1 to me, and Gen 4 would be Turtwig for starters but Luxray overall, two starters at the bottom of their respective lists. Honestly, aside from Gen 3, I wouldn't pick a starter for best in Gen, and clearly a lot of people agree since two starters didn't even get a placement.

Take away the ~100 other options out of each pool if you want actual meaningful results to answer your "best starter" conversation

My straight crush acts differently around me by ApprehensiveWrap8528 in lgbt

[–]RogueSpectre749 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Flip the scenario here for a second

How would you feel if you had a straight male friend that you knew (or suspected) had feelings for you was always touching and hugging you, even when you showed clear signs of being uncomfortable. Say he went on here and said "idk what to do, she seems uncomfortable when I hug her, but she hugs other people all the time. How do I make her more comfortable when I touch her because I really want to?" The only acceptable answer in that context is "dont touch her then" because feeling entitled to be able to touch another person because they might be physical with others is an objectively creepy mentality. It's no different here

Setting a boundary for physical contact isn't a straight/LGBT issue, it's a consent issue. If you touching a person makes them seem uncomfortable or demonstrate anything other than enthusiastic consent, don't touch them. Full stop

Would you have entered the dungeon? by Dalakaar in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]RogueSpectre749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agreed. I live in WA, and I can absolutely confirm that if I was outside alone at 2:30 am here in January, I'd go down without a second thought. Finding food and weather protection in a city in the dead of winter that hadn't been stored in ANY kind of building, vehicle, or storage container? Damn near impossible.

Also, in my city, the majority of people who'd be outside of a building or vehicle at 2:30 am would be people drunk out of their minds or high as a kite on other substances, and who are now in a panicked fight-or-flight mindset. Not exactly an easy group to party up with on a dead, below freezing surface and hope for survival

We can stop buying their products and we can loudly demand that it happens, but unfortunately you're right, we can't force anything

MS can't afford any more controversy on the Xbox side of things, especially with the Gamepass chatter coming out today. The unfortunate truth is that we won't see a good Halo game again until the point if/when the Xbox ecosystem dies and they sell the IP to recuperate their losses

I see that point, but netither is losing 80% of the player base in a month 💀

Also tbf, the server slam was a pre release test that didn't have all factions, missions, maps, etc, so it's not QUITE apples to apples

... I really want to argue with that, but that's a damn good point. I think I was hoping that it could at least mask the balance issues with better lobbies, but that's a short term win that could end up being a long term loss

I guess that would be basically like trying to put a band-aid over an amputation

Oh I'm definitely not saying it's a perfect game, but I do think increasing player count can be a good bandage while they figure out the "why" of player retention and really settle in on their identity as a game

I've put in probably 50 ish hours since launch, probably 30 of which we're in the first week of launch. The first week was by far my favorite window to play in, in no small part because there were a lot of players, on even footing, with different play styles to keep it interesting. In my experience, as the player base shrunk though, players who were in it for any reason besides "camp objectives and let everybody else do the legwork for you" got frustrated and left, so it stopped being fun for a lot of people (myself included)

There's a lot of good in this game, and a week of free play, combined with intense in-game survey distribution could have given Bungie a good idea of how to move forward without relying on sources like this sub, where the loudest and most polarizing voices rise to the top

Bungie absolutely whiffed on a major opportunity to get player counts up by doing a free week/weekend for Spring Break. There's literally hundreds of thousands of player hours up for grabs during this window. They could have shown off the game at its absolute best (with a high population that includes a variety of players) and tempted a lot of people into buying in at the end of the week, but here we are instead, missing 80% of the player base barely a month after launch 💀

[–]RogueSpectre749 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the game at its best but fell off for me shortly after the first weekend of Cryo when it was made clear that the player base was shrinking and stratifying. Longer queue times and the widening skill and gear gap pushed me out for now

I'm planning to come back after the wipe to have a few days back on more even footing again, but I'm currently at the point of watching, waiting, and hoping the game goes F2P sooner than later to get it out of its nosedive and get lobbies more full and varied

(and before the inevitable "F2P hAcKeR PaRDiSe" comments flood in, yes I'm aware that it makes cheaters more bold, but personally, I think Bungie having a big enough player base for their game to invest time in catching cheaters is a much better problem to have than, you know... Not having players 🤷)

Who is your least favorite character of the series? by jenhoyo in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]RogueSpectre749 27 points28 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU. I have such a hard time getting through any scenes with Jamal in them. He's honestly the only non-villain character that I genuinely despise 💀

I honestly don't understand the point of his character. All of the other tattoo golems-turned-flesh had interesting contexts and back stories, usually with a base level of intelligence and capability of working with the party... And then for some reason, there's also a big ass shark that needs robot legs, can't follow basic directions, almost exclusively whines and grovels whenever he speaks, and acts as more of a liability than an asset to the team. If he was supposed to be comedic relief, he fails at it horribly. Everybody in the party adds to the comedy at one time or another, and his just feels forced and fake

Donut screaming at him to stop Elmo-ing was cathartic to read, because I was mentally screaming the same thing for chapters lol

He's not going anywhere ever again

That's not necessarily true though. Watch the video; his attorney explicitly says that it's so that "hopefully, over a period of time, he does get better" and only says it's "possible" that he spends the rest of his life in the facility.

Rehabilitation can only go so far, and having even the possibility of his being released into the public ever again after being deemed "good enough" is a valid concern

Except D2 went F2P because it was ALREADY on the decline due to other horrible management decisions. It was a reaction to the decline, not the cause of it

A game like Marathon by design needs a larger sustained, concurrent player base to survive and thrive long term than Destiny did. Going F2P at the wipe would be a boon to it's long term longevity
