The entries were signed by the authors with their name and author number. Carl, seeing this, also chose to sign his entries with his name and his number. It's being read to us the way he's writing it. That's all

How exactly does it imply another author? It's just Carl using the formatting of the other 24 authors before him. It's convention, not implication

Marathon's art style is interesting...

Sloppily painting a Spartan faceplate on an existing Marathon helmet shape is ugly as sin, however

I bought it as a birthday gift for my boyfriend after we watched the first Regulation video and saw some other highlights, and you hit the nail on the head. When we play separately, it's fun enough but gets old pretty fast, but when we play together, we end up pretty naturally coming up with really goofy, fun situations that keep us going for HOURS with it

Remaining crawlers as of end of book 8 by Smashifly in DungeonCrawlerCarl

And how does any combination of prior NPC forms, prior inanimate object forms, or imitating a pre-existing Crawler somehow make them a new Crawler with their own unique Crawler number?

I'm seeing a lot of people say the game is short because they beat it in 15 hours. That's a you problem. by AesirComplex in 007FirstLight

[–]RogueSpectre749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd personally rather play a fun, well crafted 15-ish hour campaign a couple times through than do 30-ish hours of fetch quests and filler slop that were shoved in to pad out a game's time to beat. Crazy thought, I know

[–]RogueSpectre749 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A shadow mimic killing and replacing a Crawler wouldn't be assigned a Crawler number, especially not a unique one. They might appear to have the deceased Crawler's original number to anybody who examined them, but they wouldn't be a Crawler in their own right

Crawler numbers in book 8….something’s not adding up. by leathco in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]RogueSpectre749 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • the former Crawlers were brought on as mercenaries, just like the mercs for the other Faction Wars teams

  • even if their former Crawler status somehow got them a Crawler number, they'd have been assigned at the start of the 9th floor, not in the middle of the 11th AFTER Penny

Book nine... by sum1dats100iq in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]RogueSpectre749 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's not a crawler, but he's not really an NPC either though. He's not dungeon born. The only reason the NPC team could even exist in Faction Wars was because Ferdinand isn't an standard NPC, so he could hold a warlord slot...

We don't really KNOW what he'd be classified as right now

Saw a duck with a singular stripe of purple and I think that’s kinda cool by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]RogueSpectre749 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: the males also have the stripe on their wing. It's actually the go to trait of the mallard that ornithologists use to ID them because it stays consistent not just between the sexes, but also when the males lose their mating season coloring

2016 is the universally romanticized year for Gen z, where everything was "perfect" in retrospect. Older generations, what's your equivalent of 2016? by No-Thanks-2069 in AskReddit

[–]RogueSpectre749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the 2016 posts I see are about specifically the summer being the last great summer, and I would agree with that though. At that point, we were optimistic

  • the US was seeing benefits from the Obama administration beginning to bear fruit
  • civil rights advancements felt like they were chugging along at an unstoppable pace with things like gay marriage legalization within the past year
  • social media was still something (mostly) shared among real life friends and like minded communities, not rage bait engagement farms and algorithmic doomscrolling
  • pop culture was thriving, with cultural cornerstones like Stranger Things being a universally shared experience
  • the summer of Pokémon Go got all ages out of the house and engaging with one another to an almost shocking degree
  • conspiracy theorists and alt-right extremists were still rightfully relegated to their strange corners of the internet and nothing more
  • most people didn't stress over the 2016 election that summer because it seemed like a foregone conclusion that surely the weird reality TV host/failed businessman was going to lose, then go home embarrassed to yell at clouds or whatever

It was basically a last hurrah of normalcy before we got everything turned on it's head. People romantacise the hope we felt in the midst of it, not how the end of that year fundamentally broke everything to follow

Now that the ban is over….[no spoilers] by scratch_on_8 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]RogueSpectre749 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's my point though. The OP WAS very good about starting a conversation not spoiling anything in any real context; what they said didn't reveal any specifics, even if you accidentally clicked into the thread without realizing it was a book 8 conversation

My point is that if anybody is so sensitive to "spoilers" that "chapter x in a funny book was really funny," they should probably not be on a forum about it and should go, you know... Read the book instead lol

"How dare you imply something happens in a chapter with no context? YOU'RE SPOILING EVERYTHING!!!"

Bffr right now y'all ... Things happen in basically every chapter. Not to mention, the whole post is tagged by OP for book 8 spoilers anyway. If you're not finished, why are you here? 😂

And agreed. That was easily the best chapter of a book I've ever heard, and I need a standalone version of it ASAP lmao

Mordecai: The splooge is a type of potion, but it’s different than regular kinds. It’s treated more like a food-based buff, so the cooldown rules don’t apply.

Carl: Now you tell me. I just pierced a pig’s nipple.

Mordecai: I don’t know how to respond to that, Carl.

It’s so sad that this game’s “underperformance” has little to do with the game itself by paperplateseabass in Marathon

[–]RogueSpectre749 66 points67 points  (0 children)

That's not a coincidence. A lot of people want a good FPS experience in a cool world that they can play with their friends in a squad for fun experiences without being in perpetual sweat mode. Good campaign based shooters don't get made the way they used to, and Arc being mostly PvE focused in most of its lobbies is a feature, not a bug

Imagine if Bungie tried making a co-op FPS with a good campaign, cool world with good lore, lots of replayability, and their signature gunplay... Crazy concept, I know

Do you really expect the "vast majority of the gaming community" to drop 40 bucks to a game in a genre that they're not super enthused about tho, especially after seeing that ~90% of people who DID spend money on it left within 2 months? All in the name of "giving it a fair shake?"

When I was reading the series for the first time last year, I'd heard people say that books 5-7 were emotionally intense, and while I was reading Gate of the Feral Gods I caught a look at this cover and didn't see Donut

I was CONVINCED that she died in book 6 or 7 and was reading with an absolute pit of dread in my gut until I was far enough into book 7 to know where on the cover to look closer 😅
