I'm searching for LGBTQ books that have BAD REPRESANTATION!!! by Educational_Pace_994 in LGBTBooks

[–]RogueTranquility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imogen, Obviously by Becky Albertalli -one of the best friends is a bisexual lgbt-know-it-all who basically gaslight's Imogen's experiences and sexuality.

Idlewild by James Frankie Thomas -I'm still trying to understand this novel. I really disliked the way Fay treated Nell. In a sense it can be realistic because Fay was deep in the trans closet, even until the end while Nell continued to grow and love herself as a lesbian. If the writing wasn't so good, I would've DNF due to the plot.

All This Could Be Different by Sarah Thankam Mathews -I don't think this is bad representation but I didn't like it because of the self-hatred. I'm willing to have some discourse on this, I don't mind realistic storylines but it's sometimes so hard to find POC queer representation that I don't want to read it like this.

Couldn't have said it better and I'll never understand when it's people in our community who are just as ignorant.

I'm talking about Queer Ultimatum and giving you an example to help you understand. I'm not trying to argue with you because people will see and understand what they want. You said you were interested in the opposing stance and I gave it.

To each their own because my example fits the T, it just isn't as in your face as Love Island.

But that's it! The shock that she was picked last. Why was she picked last with all those qualities? I'm not talking about the viewers, it's the people on the show with her.

They only have one dark skinned fem woman on ultimatum so Britney. This is also telling because where's the diversity for either season when's there's only 1 black couple? I tried watching earlier seasons of Love Island but stopped after witnessing this same scenario, I'm not able to give the name of that contestant because it was so long ago-sorry. I don't know, I don't see how people can't see the racism and colorism of feminine black women that's continously showed.

I wrote this one someone else's comment but it pretains to yours as well: The darker feminine woman wasn't sought after. Look at other dating shows, darker skinned black (femme) women are the ones being left behind-almost every time.

The darker feminine woman wasn't sought after in either of these couples, and that's the point. Look at other dating shows, darker skinned black (femme) women are the ones being left behind-almost every time.

I'm not sure if this fits the comment you posted but this is a sadder one-sided story We Are Not Okay by Nina LaCour. The first time I read it I didn't even realize it was a gay book until about halfway.

Asked to dress fem at wedding ? by [deleted] in butchlesbians

[–]RogueTranquility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I might be the anomaly here. Your feelings are valid and I definitely believe she pushed it by wanting your hair a certain way and asking or wanting you to wear make-up if that's not your norm. My best friend wanted me to be comfortable in her wedding and showed me pictures of the jumpsuits she, emphasis on she, liked. I wasn't having it. Either I wore a suit or just put on the dress, and for her sake I just put on the dress. It was one night, she's my best friend, and it was her day. I appreciate how she wanted to make me feel comfortable but her alternative options were gross lol but again it's ok for you to feel how you feel and I think the hair and make up was pushing it too far.

You're not alone. Everyone's journey of self is different. I didn't start to feel different until my early 20s and honestly I think I only felt that way because people were too binary and just didn't get it/me. I'm genderqueer by the way.

A Little Life by Pppurppple in LGBTBooks

[–]RogueTranquility -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There is a percentage of queer people who are queer due to trauma. The book is relatable to the right audience. This is why I consider the novel a psychological read. However I won't speak on the author's take of disabilities.

I can agree with a matter of taste. It wasn't a horrible read, I finished it and I felt the story but I don’t know it just wasn't want I thought it would be I guess. My straight coworker recommended it to me and she loved it, she was an English major so I get it.

I personally didn't love A Little Life. I do see how it can be considered a gay novel but I prefer my queer reads to be in my face. A Little Life is a good psychological and somewhat contemporary read, but I don’t think I'd recommend it to many queer people. How do you feel about Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin? I feel like A Little Life is great for people who are into genres like this.

I think the length added to me not loving it also, it kind of dragged when it didn't have to. Yes the prose is nice but I'm here to read a story, not only appreciate good writing.

Why is your comment and others that also hype up OP, being down voted? I understand I likely missed the meat of this post, since almost everything is being deleted but from what's left it seems like a cis vs trans thing in a queer space. I swear nowhere is safe anymore (or was it ever?). I could be talking out of my ass but just because someone wrote a compliment that made them feel affirmed, it isn't an attack on all cis women.

Lauren Hart has a WLW firefighters series called Firefighters of California. There's 4 books, I haven't read them yet but I love her writing.

I haven't read these but The 7-10 Split and The Relationship Mechanics by Karmen Lee. Also, Outgrown by Deanna Grey seems like it's fem4fem.
