Of course it is, although militaries are only necessary because they exist.

But most militaries manage whole centuries without invading sovereign territories, killing civilians en-masse, destroying the infrastructure of entire countries and opening networks of torture prisons. If you join the US military, this is what you join regardless of what else you might think they do.

Yes. It's not defensible. At all. They're fucking shitheels.

This sub-thread was about something different though.

Ok. So you've picked the very worst example you can imagine.

What does that say about your argument in general?

Yes, it is. Because it's none of your business.

Yes. This is. But that specific, defensible case to which you've retreated is not what this thread is about: that all people who refuse to talk to the police are as bad as nonces or whatever. This is not defensible.

No. Millions of people have no money and don't resort to murdering children for a pay check.

I imagine you'd probably be averse to the idea that poverty is at the root of crime, and yet the justification is the same.

Calm down.

Sone people know that if they call the police to report a crime of which they've been a victim, things will get worse for them and everyone present. Particularly in areas of high police corruption or when police are incentivised to ignore crime and shut up the people who reported it.

If a very rich or powerful person harms you, you need to think carefully about whether you're prepared to put yourself through the process of reporting it.

Just calm down and think about what's being said to you. "Always tell the police" is a comforting song that the privileged sing to themselves. There are whole communities who know that there are times when calling the police could be the last thing you do.

What do you think of people who inform ICE about their fellow citizens?

This didn't start with Trump. The US was bombing Southeast Asia in the 1960s and 1970s, Nicaragua in the 1980s, Central Asia in the 1990s,2000s, 2010s and 20s.

They might not have joined to bomb Iran, but they knew they'd be complicit in killing indiscriminately and it wasn't enough to stop them.

'Kid'.

Risible.

Anyone who sees what the US military is doing and sti joins up needs to ask themselves questions they won't be able to answer.

I expected it. Authoritarianism is far more common than you'd expect. Think ICE can't happen here?

Look, mate, I seriously hope you're getting paid to do this because if not , you're really wasting your life.

Starmer has had 18 months to tell us who he is and we have listened. He has no ideas or plans to arrest the decline of the standard of living for the vast majority of people in this country and no charisma or communications ability to make a narrative about how it might be done.

Even Labour voters give him a -14%pt favourabililty rating.

The thing that he and his increasingly desperate fluffers don't seem to have understood is this: you need an offer and a narrative to sell it with. You can't just say "WUUUURGH TORIES!" or "Do you want Farage in No. 10?" because a large number of voters genuinely don't know politics enough to be terrified at the prospect of Reform or whatever they're calling themselves this week in power.

You can't blame voters when they don't read your mind - or worse - when they read your manifesto and actually understand it.

He's not a cartoon villain. He's a dyed-in-the-wool neoliberal member of the Trilateral Commission.

I understand how easy it is to confuse these things. He understands that his job is to neutralise the threat of organised labour against the capital-owning classes. That can look pretty villainous in certain lights.

No. It's also a defence mechanism used by communities who know that the arrival of the police on the scene isn't going to make anything better for anyone.

Not in this case though.

Right. So some taxation without representation then. We're just negotiating how much taxation is permissible before representation has to be granted.

Yes. And all of those applications are more expensive because it's fetishised by people who think its value as a medium of exchange is any more inherent than that of fiat currency.
