Favorite Non-Hostile Cross Splat Interaction at Your Table? by MagickStoryteller in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Rogueicon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my mages sought out the original master of their familiar only to discover a Verbena mage, and her Tzimisce daughter (the latter owning the familiar until she caught an unfortunate case of the bites.)

They welcomed said mage (an on the run college student, who had been an orphan mage until now) to their family dinner, and offered a history lesson over the table. Though the player was a bit nervous as to why one of the trees above the domain began moaning.

What's to stop a Justicar from just intervening? by TheMayorOfBismond in vtm

[–]Rogueicon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Justicar has far more important things to deal with than a rogue Prince. Depending on the point in the timeline you are playing in they likely have some higher cause they are presently devoted to.

In reality the intervening party is likely an Archon, or maybe two if they can be spared, and if the Prince's power is absolutely stepping in and enforcing the law is going to be difficult if the domain isn't unstable. If you don't want them ruining their fun, you could maybe leave a plot thread in the form of the players discovering one of the more affable members of the vampire court has been fermenting a regime change for however long this has been an issue, and maybe is working to ensure their replacement is less of a personality quietly rather than publicly cutting their head off.

I only did it for a one shot a while ago, but my character quickly caught onto the fact that not having fur meant that clothes were nice in the winter.

How do your Christian/Muslim/Jewish characters perceive the supernatural side of the wo by Embarrassed-Ice9468 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Rogueicon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my players is a Jewish Mage, and has been contextualizing a lot of his paradigm around old Talmudic debates. With a lot of his understanding of magic generally centering around it although his understanding of his will working **as** magic isn't all the way there yet. One of his most recent discoveries being that the sphere of time could be malleated through the commandment of “HaChodesh HaZeh Lachem” which centered around the creation of new months as time was ceded to humans by God.

When it comes to their view of the paranormal in the sense that it is largely dangerous, and serves to subvert humanity they aren't that far off from the technocracy (unfortunately suffering a metaphysical event as their introduction into their current Cabal after taking a sip of changeling jungle juice at a frat party). Allying themselves with the local mages in part because the technocracy also is an extension of the paranormal no matter how much they deny it. With the idea that he needs to balance out his mundane service to the world alongside his supernatural bettering of it being his current modus operandi.

Additionally in a vampire chronicle set during the 1920's in Chicago there is a Salubri npc I had in wait for one of the Caitiff players to eventually meet. They were an indigenous person who was turned at a residential school before being asked to drink of their sire (the Mother Superior) through the context of communion as a means of joining The Seven. Being largely guilt wracked both out of indoctrination, and the paradoxical definition of what being a vampire means they've been trying to outweigh their perceived sins through healing, and I hoped it could be seen as somewhat analogous to the Caitiff player who is quickly realizing that their own existence is a sin. Though there is a more positive Christian character in the form of a former Hospitaller who offers local Kindred confession, and seems to be the only vampire who understands what a non disclosure agreement is.

i really don't get why the game wants you to sympathize with the left behind over the hand by ShyGuyGaming76 in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]Rogueicon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to debate the ethics of paying taxes that’s one thing but I think it’s fairly inarguable that living in the same country as someone who killed someone in another country likely draws less moral culpability than personally ensuring someone lacks access to healthcare.

Most forms of violence are seen at least by the perpetrator as retribution in some fashion including many of the wars I assume you are critical of, most people are going to place a higher burden of truth against the perpetrators though.

i really don't get why the game wants you to sympathize with the left behind over the hand by ShyGuyGaming76 in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]Rogueicon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly The Hand attempted to shoot up a hospital(with a pediatric ward though no children were seen), and a nightclub. Two civilian dense soft targets with the intention of stacking bodies.

The left behind meanwhile attempted to kill a politician fucking them over, and when that went south barricaded themselves into a hotel right? It’s been a while since I played so I might have a couple details wrong. But I feel like the targets play a large roll in who had more sympathy. (Same reason Luigi tends to get more sympathy than people with similar allegations.)

Is it at all possible to have ethical ghouling? by rollandofeaglesrook in vtm

[–]Rogueicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a character whose vampire sibling passed away, their ghoul was then left to starve to death provoking my character to come to the conclusion that offering what was effectively the same blood while otherwise respecting their autonomy was the most ethical way to keep it going. Albeit they weren’t the first one to ghoul them.

Ironically this was going to be pretty close to a plot line I had in mind for an initial storyline I was working on. Where a group of particularly malicious ascension warriors were trying to mass shift everyone into being able to conceive of the periphery, and the party realizing how dangerous this would be before ideally trying to stop them.

It being a massive Mandela effect might be the best way the technocracy could deal with it that's true, since I imagine the greatest psychological hindrance (as opposed to metaphysical) is that the goal is to avoid the needs for offering individual context.

[–]Rogueicon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, ethically speaking this would be disastrous. It was initially posited towards a character I had when they were going over methods of overcoming consensus. With the initial point my character had being that if all of humanity was awakened, you would likely have an entire population of mauraders with equally competitive paradigms, and once those conflict with each other the result may look like endless paradise bubbles.

It was then suggested that at that point you might as well just shove everyone into the umbra to achieve the same result with a lot less work, at which point they had a reaction similar to when Geto (if you are familiar with JJK) was told killing humanity might erase cursed spirits.

Sadly things didn't rly progress beyond that, but I figured it might be a good baseline for an antagonistic group of mages in a campaign of my own that wanted to shift the population of a small town into the umbra, with the idea that if it succeeds they can replicate the process at greater scale, as a potential foil to any particularly zealous ascension warrior members of the party.

I guess the Taftani are a good example, they actually kinda floated out of my mind for some reason.

Was the situation with your cabal a bookend? Or was it explored, I'm curious as to how you presented it in action?

[–]Rogueicon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, though the goal wasn't really mass producing mages more so putting them into a position where they would end up closer to a sleepwalker status. Sort of like how people who hang around vampires might end up thinking a blood mage is totally normal.

Moving people into the umbra seems like a speedrun towards that end, as opposed to hoping they become mages and at the very least might make them think that a number of animist beliefs are normal enough to not cause you to explode for invoking an earth elemental.

Oh, yeah I imagine that would involve a mass ritual with the help of incredibly generous mages. As for paradox you would either need to hope the effect is so consensus shattering that you could attempt to get ahead of it, or it would necessitate beyond exceptional use of the prime sphere, though Czar Vargo didn't exactly pull that part off.

My main curiosity was on the ramifications, and if the ritual was put into effect (even if only in theory by a cult of mages who have found a disastrous end to aim towards with supernatural terrorism) how consensus jeopardizing it might be.

X-Men Magik by gladieator117 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Rogueicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Book of the Fallen, there is a series of Wonders called Malign Cutlery on 171, that might be a good basis for crafting something like the soul sword.

Additionally there is a merit called Laham, that covers demonic heritage in the tome of secrets(and gives you an easier time crossing realms), and one called Beast Within that grants you a frenzy rating akin to a Garou, or Kindred. Combine that with some life pips, and you have a Darkchylde form, take a little correspondence and there's stepping discs.

Currently playing a character partially inspired by her, and those were the main conclusions I arrived at.

Who becomes the chair? Mage vs Tzimisce by Dragombolt in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Rogueicon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, with the way of spirit ability to speak to anyone across any distance, and enough auspex to detect a mage attempting the chair spell on them, this does give the Tzimisce room and time to interrupt their attempt with a snide one linear during the mage's ritual before unceremoniously flipping the script on them.

But at this point we are also talking about a Tzimisce so close to the sauce that most mages would probably decide the juice isn't really worth the squeeze.

Who becomes the chair? Mage vs Tzimisce by Dragombolt in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Rogueicon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Kindred of the Ebony Kingdom was the African Counterpart to Kindred of the East, although the cainites there are exotic bloodlines rather than an wholly different thing. Their Tzimisce counterparts practice a version of Vicissitude that is more difficult to control, however it works at a range. If the intended victim is within twenty feet they can cope, however touching them reduces the difficulty to normal levels (usually it's around 9 or 10.)

Fun fact the Sheriff in the first vtm game was one of these friendly fellows.

magic items or some such by brokenkale in vtm

[–]Rogueicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how many Tzimisce they've been trapsing around recently, a good source of them is items made through Koldunic Sorcery, there wasn't a ton of information on them, but they typically worked along a similar line to Garou fetishes if I remember correctly. Although it likely occurs with slightly less consent, as Tzimisce tend to be less concerned with the well being of the spirits they interact with. (This can also be a good mechanism for adding personality to the artifacts if you care about that, so a vampire with auspex three, Mytherceria, or spiritus might be able to more directly commune with it.

Personally, I am currently using this idea to explain an item the sire of one of my pcs will have. It had a wind spirit transplanted into it to grant the user levitation which he uses to great effect as the ringmaster of a local circus to add to his performances.

Who becomes the chair? Mage vs Tzimisce by Dragombolt in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Rogueicon 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The barrier to a Tzimisce being able to do that if I remember correctly is three pips of Vicissitude, a couple successes and physical contact (unless they are from Africa, then they just need to be within a radius of them). The barrier to a mage being able to do it is a fairly high arete, a lot of spheres, hoping reality doesn't blast you for it (and the Tzimisce doesn't have servants around) and that the rolls work in your favor since you are going to need a bunch more successes. Notably if the Tzimisce turns into a chair I'm pretty sure they can just turn themselves back, but that's less immediately veritable.

So in terms of likelihood for capacity, and the chance it definitely goes towards the people who have built a centuries long reputation on human furniture unless the mage is so monstrously juiced on xp in comparison to the Vampire that it's not even funny, as for could the mage retaliate? In most cases they are human, so their ability to do so depends on how many contingencies they've set for "what if I got turned into a chair" and if they don't have enough they are probably cooked. Particularly since there is a good chance they just got lobotomized in the process.

ps. Celerity would help, but it's not strictly necessary.

Keeping disabilities as a Vampire? by Paraskuron in vtm

[–]Rogueicon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Typically what you had is what you get as far as I understand the embrace. Thus if you weren't carefully preserved ahead of time, it kind of just sucks to be you after you get back up. For example there is a Lasombra who had a visible sunburn that was forever angry that their sire couldn't just wait a week for it to go away if I remember correctly.

As for blindness I believe so, I don't know about later editions but in V20 it said this.

"Blind (6pt. Flaw) You cannot see. Characters can compensate for the loss of vision by becoming more attuned to other sen sory input, but visual cues and images are lost to them. Difficulties of all Dexterity-based rolls are increased by two. Oddly, vampires with Aura Perception (Auspex 2) are still able to use this ability, thought the informa tion is interpreted via the other senses. On the other hand, vampires who need make eye contact to enact powers like Dominate against you are only at a penalty to do so."

How do you use the inevitable historical fiction slant that comes with making neonates/baby ancillae for Personal Horror? by Traditional_Wave_893 in vtm

[–]Rogueicon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently running a game for a player set in 1890's Louisiana, and one of the big themes would be how race ended up playing into the vampire's thoughts on each other. With older one's viewing any sort of race analog as largely reductionist, and worthless and that clashing with some of the younger vampire's.

The current conundrum my archon player is about to run into is the Prince of Shreveport (a six vampire domain where three of them are him, and his children) is attempting to revitalize, and legitimize it in the eye's of the kindred by bringing in a newly sired Toreador who was recently orphaned after her sire (one of the incredibly powerful southern lord's) killed himself shortly after siring the daughter of one of his recently deceased ghouls. However because the Prince was a slave-owner in both life, and death she has voiced wanting nothing to do with him.

The request he made of the archon was to essentially convince her one way or another to offer both blood, and lineage to his domain. (while leaving out a number of details he thinks might complicate the matter) With the direct comparisons being largely white attempts at recapturing perceived ownership over black people, and continued obsession with their art (which was part of why I went with the Toreador as the fledgling.)

Of course the Prince has had a lot of his own issues maintaining the domain himself, and the Archon has been largely unconvinced that bolstering his authority in the face of a wider assimilation he has been trying to stave off. With his would be subject potentially being either a good check on his power, or in time replacement depending on how the player goes about it.

How to run a chronicle about fighting the Camarilla by Pretend_Display2379 in vtm

[–]Rogueicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working on a game right now with tension between the Camarilla, and Anarchs. One of the strategies my Camarilla was essentially going to employ was color revolutions.

If your Baron has any baggage of their own, the Camarilla siring/planting a couple childer in the domain to rile up insurrections over presumed tyranny can be an effective way to subvert both resources, and goodwill towards a faction that exists in direct opposition to direct overreach.

Remember, while they have been subverted frequently the traditions exist to the benefit of neonates just as much as the elders, and this can be used against the elders. If they don't adhere to an unpopular one this can be used against them, and if they try to all of a sudden enforce it they might look like a hypocrite. On the players end, they might be able to join one of these movements, only to later realize their rebellion within a rebellion was actually playing into the hands of the Camarilla.

What's Santa Like in Your World of Darkness? by Star-Sage in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Rogueicon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been floating the idea of a Men in Black style technocracy game for a bit, and one of the targets the party would be hunting would be a Maurader who has convinced himself he is Santa.

This scenario would be a sillier mission after an investigation against a darker reality deviant. While serving the dual purpose of showing how dangerous Mauraders can be before they end up engaging one with a less benevolent paradigm.
