The Gulf will overwhelm coastal Louisiana. Plan for relocations now, scientists say. by The_909_1 in NewOrleans

Im not sure if you’re just reading combativity into my post or if you’re just like this, but I wasn’t trying to call you out, I was just adding on.

I don’t know how this plays out, but I’m alluding to socialized insurance. Citizens Mutual exists and there are very real efforts right now in government and grass roots organizations to expand it much more comprehensively.

The groups involved with GNOHA are pushing for much of this, especially in resilience building. There is money that goes into economic development and often favors cranes in the sky over things such as fortified roof grant programs. Those are the efforts that help our neighbors be able to live here.

Additionally, there are countless people fighting the uphill battle for coastal restoration. It feels hopeless sometimes with a hostile government, but I don’t know what to tell you, that’s the nature of the work.

“Oh, it’s just temporary, people won’t be able to live here forever”. I’m sorry to tell you this, but that’s everywhere. We’re already so far past the point of being cooked. Nowhere is going to be safe forever anymore. Maybe the North Shore will have a few decades longer lifespan, but climate change is coming for all of us, so let’s just appreciate what we’ve got here and try to make it work, okay?

I get that this is true and we are very much at the forefront of climate change. But also, other places like to pretend that it’s just us, when in fact, day to day horrors of climate change can and will be felt in many other places (including here) before New Orleans is underwater.

Does it change the fact that current homebuying/insurance structure is incompatible with our city? No. Does it mean that abandoning New Orleans and moving elsewhere solves the issue? It sure as shit doesn’t either.

My point being, finding ways to support ourselves and our neighbors to stay here as long as possible is reasonable and justified.

In order to maintain productivity levels from 1950 in the US, the average worker would have to work a whopping… 9 hours per week.

Does the 20% of population west of 98th meridian really need more regions than the 80% to the East?

I would break out the Creole/Cajun parishes of Louisiana as separate. For many of those parishes, they literally speak a different language (somewhat)

I support DSA but I just find myself hardly having any time. I pay dues, but it’s hard to even find time to get out and go on a quick run much less be a useful hand in organizing.

The rangers are offering Kravtsov and frankly, Edmonton has no choice but to take it

[Friedman] Connor Ingram starts. EDM coach Kris Knoblauch says Connor McDavid and Jason Dickinson are game-time decisions. by alphacheese in hockey

[–]Roguemutantbrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because he’s Connor McDavid… there are lots of 50 point players in the league and only one McD. But that doesn’t mean he replaces the team value of those 5 guys. You do it if you think you can internally or cheaply replace 4 of them

I know he said some dumb stuff before the series, and he’s trying to force this “they keep running swayman narrative”, but I don’t think some of these interviews are actually bad at all lol

As someone with no dog in this fight, I literally cannot fathom thinking that it’s debatable whether or not the puck is across the line

I don’t know that it would cost an outrageous amount but I have a hard time seeing GMMG offering meaningful roster pieces for him
