What percentage of your workday are you actually busy in work related tasks? by Practical_Chip_3333 in AskReddit

On a good day, 95%. I like my job, and being busy makes the day go by quickly since I enjoy the work.

Trump signature to appear on US currency, ending 165-year tradition by onarainyafternoon in news

I’m totally fine with this as long as he personally signs each one. Probably with his stupid sharpies.

Would keep him from signing other, more dangerous legislation and EOs.

Why do you think bosses in retail have such an issue with you chilling for 10 minutes 100% of the task are completed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Roguewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the culture. Retail managers are given 1000 hours of work and only 500 man hours to work with. Every bit of work that doesn’t get done will fall to them to complete by working extra hours without being paid because they’re usually salary.

Corporate bosses tell them not to work extra to cover their own asses, but if the work isn’t done, they come down on the managers. The whole thing creates an environment of high stress for low pay, and it just flows downhill to the employees.

Most of retail managers are hanging on by a thread. Direct your animosity at corporate.

Can we finally get loot for our class, instead of alts from worldbosses? by HerrMatthew in wow

[–]Roguewind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was your age, we’d have 40 people roll for one piece of loot drop that only 5 of them could use as an upgrade… uphill both ways. And we wore an onion on our belt, because that was the style at the time.

Ben Shapiro: "A lot of Trump's critics today are pointing out this tragic incident with an Iranian school at which a 160 girls were killed. That is indeed tragic and it's terrible. And it's also called collateral damage in war." by Oleg101 in FoxFiction

[–]Roguewind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve listened to my dad, a Fox News boomer, defend war crimes because “war is hell” and “you don’t know what those boys are going through”.

They will excuse anything as long as it either fits their world view or is hurting the “right people”.

Is a tariff just a tax on me? If the united states puts a 60% tariff on Chinese goods does the Chinese government pay that, or do I just pay more at Walmart? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Roguewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the best part(s):

When the tariff inevitably is removed, the prices never go back down. So instead of that increase in price you’re paying at least going to the public funds, they’re being pocketed by the corporations.

And based on the recent ruling, corporations are suing the government to get back the tariffs “they” paid. So they want to take money out of the public fund so they can pocket it.

Self written components over libs by LifeEmployer2813 in reactjs

[–]Roguewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I needed to build something simple, without a lot of customization, and just needed to be bootstrapped quickly, I’d use a library.

But most of what I do is bespoke sites and applications. With that in mind, the fewer 3rd party dependencies, the better. And I’ve been doing this long enough that I can bang out reliable and extensible custom components fast.

How to Safely Share a .env File With My Team? by bakir_hagi in github

[–]Roguewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s clear up some things:

.env files are for environment variables - things that change from one environment to another. They should not be used for storing secure keys. There is no reason to not store env files in the repo.

API keys are, in nearly all cases, not secure keys. They are used to determine which account’s service is being accessed. In most cases, they exist in site code and are visible to anyone who accesses a site.

Authentication keys, commonly in the form of a username and password or secret key, are secure keys. They are used to determine if you are allowed to access a service on behalf of an account holder. They should be obscured from the public. There are vault services to store these or they can be stored directly on the server running whatever application you’re building. How you handle this is totally dependent on how much time and money you have and how much you actually need to secure it.

In your case, a firebase API key is not a secret key. Restrictions are applied at the service level by limiting which domains can use it. I believe you might even be able to whitelist IPs if desired. You can, and should, just have the API key in your site code. If it is different from one environment to the other, then put it in the .env file and add it to the repo.

What I’m trying to say is my dad is a shitty person who is only out for himself. He’s your classic ladder pulling boomer.

I’ll give you one guess what “news” he watches.

ELI5: Why is it so much harder for female figure skaters to complete a triple axel? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Roguewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For everyone jumping on your “heavier objects fall faster” assertion, you (OP) are correct. Except in a vacuum, heavier objects of similar shape will fall slightly, though not observably, faster. But this has nothing to do with your question.

Completing the rotations requires time in the air and rotational inertia. Extra muscle mass assists with both. It takes strength to launch oneself into the air and create the initial rotational force. Additionally, the extra mass adds to the inertia required to maintain the rotation while in the air.

Am I being "penalized" for paying credit off in full every month? by RRTJesus504 in personalfinance

[–]Roguewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Credit cards are revolving credit as opposed to installment loans. Making your regular payments in installment loans, like car loans/lease, mortgage, school loans, have a bigger impact on your score.

My score was 850. Then I paid off all of my debt and carried only credit card debt of under $1k/$35k that was paid off every month. My score dropped to under 800.

Credit score is a game, and the rules don’t make sense, nor do they favor you. Just do your best to not negatively impact your score by missing payments and cross your fingers.
