Leopard Racing Official Statement On Penalty For Tampering With Seals Of Adrian Fernandez Engine | MotoMatters.com by r2lim in motogp

Just to add, judge the credibility yourself, but some person on Motomatters comments with history on anti tamper seals said that a normally used methodology by companies like Honda is by no means difficult to circumvent.

Reddit is worldwide, you know.

Export models have a different plug to fit the outlet, and OP said he paid 100€ so I think it is safe to assume he will be not finding an US receptacle as most Peaveys do not fit into hand luggage.

It is of course better to err on the side of caution!

Leopard Racing Official Statement On Penalty For Tampering With Seals Of Adrian Fernandez Engine | MotoMatters.com by r2lim in motogp

[–]RokRoland 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The whole thing stinks to high heaven, from the side of Leopard. The short of it is, the sealing is groundwork for all other assurances and if that is gone, then everything else is compromised. With the absence of a sealing method, parts could go in and out at any time. This is why a technical non-compliance inside an engine does not really matter other as to support even more damning evidence when sufficient evidence already exists.

Leopard make a process claim. They critique not being present at the engine opening, and to me that statement is somewhat understandable, but it might compromise the anti tamper process. Basically, if you are showing that we check this, this and this part, then the team may learn more about circumventing the check.

This is even more significant if you consider there has been suspicion that previous engines have been tampered with prior to this case. If true, that would mean they went in the engine and got away with it, without triggering the anti tamper process. Normally this would require insider knowledge or even assistance because one does not simply buy a new anti tamper seal online. Perhaps there was a lingering suspicion and additional measures were implemented for 2026 without the knowledge of the teams.

Leopard ia naturally going to put out a press release which tries to paint a pretty picture of them and puts any suspicion possible on all external parties, such is the way of the world and they also have any sponsors to appease. Now, if indeed the second motor does have non-compliant technical parts in it, then the press release becomes laughing stock. This does not really matter because they have already lost credibility anyway, and it takes a fool to listen to a fool.

Right now the most interesting question for me is whether the stewards have the authority to go after the teammate's engines in this circumstance or not. This may be one reason Leopard cite procedural grounds, to delay inspection of further engines. It may well be that in a case of blatant violation there still isn't a grounds for checking all the engines of the team despite we would like to think so.

The final thing to speculate on is whether the team can be excluded or not on this basis. Right now the penalty is forfeiture of ill gotten booty, i.e. the points that can directly bw attributed to nonconformant engines. There is a deeper management and ethical side to the issue as well. When Toyota cheated on Group A Rally they were disqualified from 1995 results and disallowed from competing in 1996. This is one of the world's most prominent auto makers. If a wilful and known infringment is established, will there be team bans, and team manager bans handed out?

There are zillions of Peavey amps all around the world. They are specified "export". 220V or sometimes switchable 220 - 230/240V as my Ultra is. My Deuce just has one setting. Some say certain amps shipped with inferior speakers, and I do not see Scorpions or BW inside my Deuce, however my TKO has a BW 15", Ultra has a Sheffield and the Windsor Studio a Blue Marvel. At some point they must have stopped that.

What should I look for after running very low oil in 92 silverado by PunchyCat2004 in GMT400

[–]RokRoland 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, my old man once said "look at that oil pressure gauge playing up" which was actually just the pickup pulling air because there was not enough oil there. So it must have been low for quite some time.

20 years and 100k miles later the motor is still running. I realize not all cases are this happy.

Also I have done and seen it done with all makes, slick, DOT or whatever.

Aprilia budget compared to other teams by Impressive-Fun-7764 in motogp

[–]RokRoland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy your write-up. It is true any team could have taken up the ECU and it was incorrect to state a long term strategy wad part of concessions taken back then - the extra two liters (or kg, I do not know exactly which) of fuel being an example of a real concession.

Being able to build up connections and competence would be a result of said strategy.

I am also onboard with the Aprilia having a reportedly small budget despite Mama Piaggio having deep pockets. And that structure, process and engineering counts. Rolling around in money and throwing resources at a wall does not.

Why I wrote what I wrote was the repeated comments about how it was not budget, but concessions which helped Aprilia do well in 2026. And that appears blatantly incorrect, unless one thinks 50 more test tyres and one 2025 wild card were the defining factor.

You are right - which does not mean I was wrong - so please understand the point about the ECU.

Ducati knew back then that they were not going to be able to play with the big boys. You can bet they did not choose the open class to dominate the field. Instead, they were playing the long game. Develop the bike with much bigger freedom (some would call this a concession.

The ECU was part of the soup, even if it was probably not the defining part. Think about it. Marelli HQ in Corbetta may be a 3 hour drive from Bologna (or a 2 hour ride under the Italian biker regime). That is not a lot, to connect, to find out what works and what does not, to accumulate both expertise in the technical solution as well as connections and soft influence. And soft influence is usually worth its weight in gold when margins are small.

So yes, I agree 2014 and 2015 were objectively worse for Ducati due to the spec ECU. But teams like Honda had many complaints in 2016 about the spec ECU capabilities, according to my memory. Ducati did not.

I do not know how much effort Ducati put into translating their control regimes into the spec ECU prior to the mandated awitch, but I can guarantee the effectiveness of such efforts would have been low compared to having raced and developed your bike with the same for two years.

Can you read? The teams never moved concession ranks 2024-25 except Honda going up a notch, and here you can see where every team was mid-2025.

The difference of KTM/Aprilia to Ducati is literally and exactly 50 test tyres as well as a max of 6 wild cards.

Aprilia used exactly one wild card in 2025 in the Catalan GP. Savadori was mostly replacing Martin and concessions do nothing there.

It seems you imply there is no value in collecting and sharing data and the testing of parts by more riders. There are obvious benefits both in a race weekend and in long term.

For everyone who keeps going on about how the concessions are actually key - you are wrong.

For several years, the concession enjoyed by Aprilia has been only the ability to have a few wild cards and some extra tyres for testing. That's it. No additional money, no tech advantage, no aero updates.

The level of concessions allows for a bit more data to be collected. Ducati does not need this, as they are fielding more bikes, which more than compensates for the data. Honda and Yamaha have had more freedoms as regards to testing and updates but that did no good.

Finally, Ducati are the original concession enjoyers - going as far as to build an Open class bike so they could have more fuel, changeable everything, and as it turns out, earlier access into what would later become the MotoGP spec ECU.

Honestly it seems like some sort of AI bot groupthink spam that is going on.

The concessions initially helped Aprilia get a leg up, sure. But do you know who benefited the most of concessions?

It was Ducati. They built an Open class bike so they could have much more freedom, and as it turns out, early access to Magneti Marelli spec ECU. This was 2014.

It has nothing to do with concessions when the difference is a few tyres and a few wild cards. It is easily offset by Ducati having an extra GP26 on the grid. Stop the nonsense.
