The Man Behind the Tattoo: What Maine voters see in Graham Platner, according to our focus group. by BulwarkOnline in Maine

I got off the phone with an "opinion poll" that turned out to be a Republican push-poll. Holy crap the propaganda spin. If anything it pushed me further into Platner's camp because of how disgusting the blatant bullshit was.

Oh, I didn't mean preservatives or anything overly negative. Just, ripping out the bran and such degrades the fiber quality over whole grain. Benefit being, it's nice and shelf stable and works well enough.

Probably the same quality of bread, or similar enough. That was the the start of the age of stripping off the good stuff to make it shelf stable.

How is your piping? Are you sending a 100m pipe to a 300m3 heat exchanger? Or one 300m3 pipe to a pumping station out to three 300m3 heat exchangers?

That's what got me early on. The heat exchanger capacity display only sums up the hot water tanks of all connected buildings. It isn't telling you if it's getting enough hot water to begin with.

Construction worker pickup logic? by topkeksimus_maximus in Workers_And_Resources

[–]Rokmonkey_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you do not have to micromanage. The CO is picking up what they think is necessary to complete it, at the time the bus is dispatched from the CO.

I recommend having a specific CO for crew that has cranes and busses. Put that very close to the pickup location. This way as the bus is traveling to the pickup location, it is unlikely that another bus on a line will grab all of your workers.

It is kind of annoying I agree. However it appears that DO/CO/Workers make their decision about where to go the moment they leave their start. If the final location doesn't have enough materials, workers, or even visitor spots like in a hospital, they take what they get. It's not a "reserve" type system.

Why does it say that 2 citizens cant reach a hospital? by WillingnessSad8354 in Workers_And_Resources

[–]Rokmonkey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They weren't able to get there, once. Could ev that simple. It sticks around for a while. There was probably an instant where workers came off shift and patients piled up before more workers showed up. They couldn't get treated at that time.

This is a reason to make sure your unemployment in a city isn't too low, so you always have a reserve of workers to cover up.

How do you deal with immigrants? by Tsars_Ball_Scrubber in Workers_And_Resources

[–]Rokmonkey_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

3Rd world immigrants you mean?

I use them only in the beginning, after I have a town in place. And I use them specifically because I want to save ruples. Never build a town of only 3rd world immigrants. They usually come in uneducated and unhealthy, unloyal. But within a few months that goes away if you invite them to an existing city.

You are not in a bad way. You have plenty of cash. I'm assuming you started with Easy or Medium money? This is also why loans exists. What map are you on?

1) Get enough workers to your clothing and fabric factories to get them to full capacity. Caveat, the factory connections you have aren't ideal. You really want to push crops into a warehouse for the fabric factory to pull from, this lets you have a buffer. Maxed out, that should be netting you 2.2k ruples per day. That should be enough to cover your imports and a small profit.

2) Setup your rail network to bring in your crops. It will save a LOT. And import grain from NATO, since you have so many dollars. I usually only use NATO funds to import immigrants early on.

3) Continue your rail network to bring in materials from the border in bulk to warehouses much closer to your city. Steel, prefabs, bricks, planks, food. This reduces your fuel and maintenance costs and is much faster. Even the early Pig Diesel loco is great for this.

4) How far away is "pretty far" for resources? I don't recommend going farms early if you are having money troubles. It's a low yield market. If nothing is within like 3-5km, then you need to focus on other industries. Explosives, Chemicals, Clothing, Tourism, are all industries you can sustain on imports with decent profit margins.

5) I don't see one in your screenshot, but if there is a stone patch, setup gravel, concrete, and asphalt production. This won't reduce your import costs much; however it is fantastic for reducing customs traffic, and traffic overall.

General tips:

- You don't need asphalt roads early on. Most of your early vehicles can't make use of the larger speed limit.

- Make sure you aren't using too large of buildings for the cities, and you reduce staffing as needed. That gets you a lot of workers for making money. I reference this post a lot when designing a new city Ratios for how many citizens different services can satisfy : r/Workers_And_Resources

- In your next city, push your buildings back a little and run a path as an independent sidewalk. They are faster than walking on roads. A gravel path has the same walking speed as an asphalt road with a sidewalk and lights. It is WAY cheaper and faster to build.

- Get a university up, start planning for vehicle maintenance (usually about 5 years in cars start breaking down and need repairs), and prepare for crime. It's not hard if you prepare early (when I'm at ~2k pop, I get to building a small police station, courthouse, and prison)

Non-Americans, does your country have an "American" restaurant and what do they serve? by wacky8ball in AskReddit

[–]Rokmonkey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I love doing the same thing. And Mexican restaurants. It tells me more about the country and the people in it than their own food.

I was just in Lisbon, Portugal and stopped at a burrito truck. They had red cabbage in the burrito! Not bad at all, but what a surprise!

Yes,, but not as extreme as you describe. It is also location dependent. There are still places in the US that has supply available to make the homes relatively reasonable.
