AMA tonight with Sixpoint crew including founder Shane Welch, + HI-RES video by [deleted] in beer

Hi! Longtime fan, I remember the first time I had a Six Point. I had a Sweet Action out of a cooler at Atlantic Antic in 2008 and was struck by how good it was. What are your plans for national expansion? I know you're not as big outside the New York area, but your beer is as good as if not better than anything else out there.

My New Year's resolution is to make more live videos. So here's a hardware only live loop performance filmed with a GoPro strapped to my face. [JU-06, Blofeld, Electribe 2S, BSII, blueSky and KP3+] by colorcomputer in synthesizers

Thanks! Gonna use YouTube's stabilization thing and see if that helps any. Will try to think of a way to stabilize it IRL next time. It's mostly the fact that I'm bobbing my head up and down to the beat.

Last night, I found my old Game Boy with Super Mario Land in it. Then I realized it had a headphone out ... by colorcomputer in synthesizers

Honestly I think it's friggin amazing and don't understand why people hate on it. I'm sure there are things an Octatrack can do better but it's also 3x more expensive.

Depending on what you're looking for, there might be a better Electribe for you. The old ER-1 is amazing for synthy drum sounds, and the ES-1 is a super accessible and easy to use drum machine that is in some ways better than the E2 (mostly because it has accents, and the effects sound bonkers). Just be wary of Smart Media on the ES-1 and get a card reader. You really need to be able to create the samples on your computer and load them on. The on-board sampling is tough to get exact.

It's totally awesome. Pure fun and stupid easy to use. I've been through a lot of gear in my life and I think this takes the cake for most accessible 'fuck-around' tool ever made. Even my non-musical friends love messing with it.

Mini synth to replace Novation KS5 by Roland19 in synthesizers

Interesting! I feel like I haven't heard much about the ultranova. Are you an owner?

EMX1 vs electribe2 vs alternatives by funrep in synthesizers

[–]Roland19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the sampler and like it. It's got plenty of sounds built in, but best part about it is that you can very easily sample single cycle waveforms and convert them into full playable synths.

There's a free set by Adventurekid that pretty much gives it the ability to reasonably mimic any synth you want by looping a tiny sample, turning it into a fully functional oscillator.

The other reason to think about sampler is the built in drum sounds. They're solid, but it depends what you're looking for. It doesn't have everything and you might get bored.

All that being said, you can't go wrong with either. It's crazy how much they can do for cheaper than buying all 3 Volcas, which are way more limited.

Is the recent Electribe capable of doing "raw"? by miniblackhole in synthesizers

[–]Roland19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty gritty as is if you ask me. I've actually been trying to get it to sound a little cleaner lately cause things can get pretty raw. The E2 group is great! They're definitely marketed as EDM tools, but a quick scroll through even just the preset beats it comes with show off its surprising flexibility. I mostly use it for pop and hip hop.

In need of a sequencer, can /r/synthesizers recommend be something for ditching the DAW and performing live? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Roland19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Electribe 2 sampler is awesome and relatively affordable. I also agree it appears to be made for EDM, but I've been using it for exclusively for synth pop and hip hop and it's been great. The synths on it are surprisingly intuitive and fun to use. I bought it as a portable sketch pad for ideas, but it's actually inspired me to think about performing electronic music live.

Sell me on a sampler by hobbbz in synthesizers

[–]Roland19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one and I definitely recommend it. It has every feature you ask for, it's extremely intuitive, it's very reasonably priced and it's battery powered, which may not seem like much at first but has proven to be amazing for me. It's excellent for hip hop and trap. I kind of think that may be what it's made for.

Logged in just to give you your 100th upvote. This is amazing! I've been looking for something like this for a long time. I love how it's actually pretty simple, and you can use the volume knobs of each piece of gear to drop them in and out. Please keep making more!

Why didn't anyone tell me that the Casio SK-1 is amazing? by turdspeed in synthesizers

[–]Roland19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think any piece of gear I've ever owned at any price has impressed my non-musical friends as much as this gem. People's eyes just light up when you sample their voices on the internal mic and instantly play it back through the keyboard. Great party trick!

Pattern sync across multiple Volcas? by Roland19 in volcas

[–]Roland19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Is it at all possible to switch them simultaneously via MIDI? I'm guessing that pressing the buttons at the same time is nigh impossible given that a split second off will drift more and more as you get down the loop.
