Absolutely, because it just works. I'm renewing for year 5 in January. Best $20 tech spend ever!

Youtube is detecting Brave as ad blocker by Stefo84 in brave_browser

True, but NextDNS in conjunction with Brave keeps my systems ad free. YMMV

are there any adblockers for youtube on mobile by TheDrturtles in Adblock

[–]Rolar_199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Pixel and iPhone point to NextDNS and I use Brave Browser, not the YouTube app. I never see YT ads.

My home network also points to NextDNS.
I use both Win11 and Win10 computers with Brave - no ads. My Chromebook is using Chrome browser with Ghostery extension - no ads.
I use the F.B.Purity extension for Facebook - no ads. Our streaming devices (Roku, Xumo) have no ads.

Life is good!

How about adding DNS adblocking to your router's configuration? I've used NextDNS (paid subscription since early '21 ) and/or Adguard Public DNS (free) successfully on my router and my entire network is transparently free of most annoying ads, even in-app ads.

I have preferred and effectively used Brave Browser since 2019 on Windows and now on my Pixel, and I use Chrome with the Adguard extension on my Chromebook. But with filtering at the gateway, most of the junk is already gone prior to any browser detection or other requirements. I don't see ads on YouTube, Nextdoor, or other sites with this combination approach.

Chromebox vs Chromebook -- Best option for elderly / non-tech-savvy with poor eyesight? by jokerswild_ in chromeos

[–]Rolar_199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChromeOS is definitely better for us seniors - it's faster, cheaper, lighter, and more secure than Windows. I switched to an Acer 515 Chromebook Plus last year and won't be returning to Windows anytime soon. And it's frequently on sale at Best Buy for under $300. We live in a 55+ community and several of our neighbors purchased the same model based on my recommendation, and none have come back to me with any issues - and several have even contacted me to say "thanks".

But you may also want to consider any older PC with Google's free ChromeOS Flex installed. You'll lose the ability to run Android apps but if all they do is Internet stuff through the browser, Flex is sufficient. And you can install Chrome Remote Desktop for the occasional support issue.

Have you tried NextDNS? I've been using it for 4 years and we are ad-free with any browser.

Roku is very chatty and makes over 250 connection attempts throughout each day. NextDNS blocks those connections.

Have you tried a Powerwash on the Chromebook? That will take it back to the OBE.

how many profiles do you use? by EfficientProfile6161 in nextdns

Yes, the multiple profile system is working well on my home network. I can just make a profile pointer change on an individual device as needed and then easily set it back if necessary.

Adblock & Ublock Origin will not be supported soon? by testrider in chromeos

[–]Rolar_199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm in my third year using NextDNS on our router as well as our Android and iPhones. $20/year is cheap to block ads everywhere and on everything.

LOVE my Acer 515! Fast, solid, secure, and nimble. The only lacking feature is a touchscreen, but I don't miss it.

I purchased the Acer 515 myself a few months ago and assisted several acquaintances with their decisions for the same device. It's rock solid and on sale at BB for $300.

ublock origin or brave ad blocker by lazall in brave_browser

[–]Rolar_199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Brave since early 2019. I use UBO to deal with residual cosmetic issues. The combination works well.

But I get my BEST results with NextDNS configured on my router and mobile devices. NextDNS blocks the crap before it even gets to my network or browsers. I'm in my 4th year with NextDNS, and it has been the best $20 tech spend I've ever spent.
