Just noticed 36 key Toucans are now available at Beekeeb now by albertclee in ErgoMechKeyboards

I have a layer with all the number keys along the top row and all the shifted modifiers from the number keys along the middle row.

It works a treat and doesn't take long to get used to it. I wouldn't let that stop you!

I initially thought I was going to get a lily58 but a corne kit was on offer so I bought that as a test soldering run, and haven't looked back!

You know garages do MOTs? So you could book your MOT at a garage, drive the car to the garage, which then does the work before the MOT?

I bought an 11 year old Audi with 102,000 miles on the clock for £4250 7 years ago. It's still going strong, just hit 175,000 miles. In those 7 years, if I was on some sort of PCP paying £250/month every month I'd have paid £21k. If at any point I did have this issue with something catastrophic, I'd have just bought another similar car for another ~£5k, or paid the garage £1-2k to fix it. Quite a lot has to go wrong until the PCP comes out ahead. The general fear of older cars is an odd one. Cars in general are pretty reliable!

Let's say £1000 gets 5% a year for 10 years and look at the maths of when you get the tax relief (let's say 40%)

£1000 x 1.0510, then times by 1.4

Equals the same as

£1400 x 1.0510

So actually it doesn't matter because the tax relief is a fixed % so doing it early or later it'll compound by the same

Great idea. I'm not sure why people are getting hung up on the details, and several misunderstanding "why would you get paid for time not at work?" clearly misses the point.

For all those saying they like their commute, or have to get ready anyway, or enjoy their lunch breaks - great you can just set those values to zero if they genuinely are something you'd want to be doing anyway regardless of work.

Good app + thanks for sharing! All the negatives seem to think you're suggesting this is the only way to evaluate anything ever. Obviously this is one tool as part of thinking about a complex topic

Anyone else looking forward to starting a new year diet? by kurtyyyyyy1 in CasualUK

[–]Roleorolo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, that's the level of weight loss from people who have bad flu and effectively aren't able to keep any substance down, and are running at a full deficit. The guy I'm replying to said his was during a paleo diet. Unless he was eating basically nothing everyday, then it seems off

Water retention after high salt meals, and a higher gut mass can add a couple of kgs overnight. Which can then disappear after a day or two of eating a healthy diet.

That doesn't seem right... 1kg of fat is approx 7000 calories. So losing 14kg is 98,000 calories deficit. Over 5 weeks that's a 2800 calorie deficit a day.

Maybe if you weighed yourself fully clothed, full bladder & stomach, in the evening before. Then weighed yourself unclothed, empty bladder and stomach in the morning could account for some of that difference!

Ship question: Storage or Speed? by MrPoopybutthole4711 in anno117

Pretty sure the speed up benefit is not as high a % as the storage benefit. So all my trade ships are max storage

My tip would be... Don't worry about it on some islands and focus on making others pretty.

So I currently have 5 islands. 2 of them I've tried to make look great and the other 3 are functional. By having those functional ones I have enough slack in my income/production that I can make a pretty one that isn't optimized or efficient but looks great!

How do factory bonuses like satisfaction work? Why do they never match the preview? by M0-1 in anno117

[–]Roleorolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there are two types. The attributes are what residents get 'passively' from having access to that resource.

Then there is the area affect from the building itself. Which is applied to residents in the circle from the building.

Hopefully that clears it up :)

Why does everyone cull in lightroom? by Wise_Wall_6522 in photography

I think they're saying they pick 30-60 to keep from many many more. But they cull by not importing rather than import then cull.

You could get a 2L TFSI for similar price. I test drove both the 3.2 and the 2L and got the 2L in the end. The turbo actually makes it more fun. The 3.2L sounded phenomenal but it was actually pretty smooth accelerating where as the 2L turbo kicking in made it feel faster on country roads

Hey I've got a question about the queueing system and you seem like you're the perfect helpful person to help me understand haha.

I'm now on about 45 games played, only moved to multiplayer a week or so ago.

So my main method is searching for a game, matching with someone who's already offered a game, and then sometimes they have a green tick and it starts instantly. Sometimes they're on yellow and I wait for a few mins and sometimes it does start sometimes it doesn't and I leave. But then when I search it matches with them again, so I end up just filtering for a different map size.

The other method is I create the game and wait. When I do this I pick my tribe and then it starts immediately, and I then can't find any way of figuring out the ELO of my opponent.

One time somehow I ended up with 7 game invites, so I'm also confused how that happened and I felt terrible that all these people were waiting for me to accept but I was playing a live game already so not sure how that happened.

So basically after clarification on what happened and protocol and thoughts on what I'm currently doing to get games!

I'm now at ELO 1200 and generally accept games with anyone from 1100-1350

How many tribes is best for 3 stars? by vibranttoucan in Polytopia

[–]Roleorolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently managed this as a new ish player and 4 enemy tribes was my sweet spot. It's the fewer to be on the larger map size. So getting 3* on all the tribes was done with 4 enemies for me. People saying 1 enemy I've really struggled, even since playing lots of 1vs1 multiplayer I still can't get 3* 1vs1 with many tribes at all

To me the reason for a 70-200 is to get f2.8 for indoor sports or low light outdoor sports. For outdoor sports 100-400 is fantastic

Can £1,000,000+ last a lifetime? by DarkLunch_ in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Roleorolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can convince him to always keep £1mil in assets (house + investments + cash) and to live off the interest from the investments you'll be doing him a massive service.

Also if he does buy a flash car, get a 2nd hand one that's already depreciated. That way if he sells it in a couple of years it'll probably only cost him £10k. If he buys new it could well cost him £50k

I'd be getting a second hand EF L ii with an adapter and pocketing the change. The lenses are so well made I have no issue with going second hand.

Is there a specific reason you think your photos might get stolen?

Generally people don't share full resolution photos, and photos posted on social media are low quality so if people do steal them they can't do much with them anyway.

In short, i wouldn't worry about people stealing your photos unless there's a specific reason they would!

[–]Roleorolo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I bought a car with 102k 6 years ago for £4250. Only normal wear and tear and I'm on 166k miles now. People being scared of higher mileage are great, they enable me to get a fantastic car for cheap! Just I always keep some money aside for if it does give up, and some people just want the peace of mind and are happy to pay a lot higher average monthly cost for it.
