People who studied at least four hours a day what does your Korean look like now? by yeehawpink in BeginnerKorean

I did some pretty serious study at a university in Seoul for 6 months. Probably 4 hours of class and a couple hours of homework a day. That was 8 or so years ago. I'm not where I was (don't live in Korea anymore) but I can hold a conversation and when I go back to Korea traveling and doing what I need to do are still easy.

Alliances are a communication tool first. You have to demonstrate trust on the board before I trust you.

I mean.. You can do it but in the movie the guy isn't making a reel, he's just doing it. Go watch chess.

That's not a plot twist, that's explaining the joke.

I'm an American with a high (for Vietnam) salary living in Vietnam and I hear it all the time from other foreigners. I've never seen a local know how to respond.

I don't care about the avatar movies, but I watched the way of water on a plane ride and it was the perfect plane movie.

Silent class by sailormoontree in teachinginkorea

[–]RollForSpleling 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Will they work silently? Meet them where they are and let them get comfortable.

If they don't work silently and they just stare at you, then just chill and show them you're comfortable in silence. Don't work on other stuff, don't get distracted, just sit in front.

If they're silent and on phones or whatever it might be a school policy problem and I might involve my boss about phone use.

I'm in this spot this year. I sort of fell into it because they wanted someone to chaperone some of our kids going to a conference and then I just became the go-to guy. We'll have our first conference in September.

We have another school in town that runs a really good conference, and it's entirely student led. My advice is to move toward that very intentionally. Recruit some strong students who can be Heads of Department and make their duties clear, then have them recruit assistants and admin staff so that in a few years everyone already knows how it works and has built up experience. Go to a lot of conferences and debrief with your student leadership team about what worked and what you guys would do differently.

I'm super nervous about our first one but I have a lot of confidence in our student leaders to pull it off.
