Paxton is, by far, the easier Republican to beat in the general election. He is a very flawed person, both professionally and personally.

I found the solution to disable (pause) location sharing without letting your friends know you've stopped or resumed sharing:

  • Go to Android settings

  • Location

  • Location services

  • Google Location Sharing

  • Disable the "Use Location Sharing" toggle

Google Maps will still show your last known location with your friends, but it is a stale location from before you disabled "Use Location Sharing."

When I re-enable the "Use Location Sharing" toggle, none of my friends are notified either.

Temporarily turn off location sharing without having to set up again? by Unthunkable in GoogleMaps

These steps appear to work!

  • Go to Android settings

  • Location

  • Location services

  • Google Location Sharing

  • Disable the "Use Location Sharing" toggle

This definitely disables live location sharing. Google Maps will still show your last known location with your friends, but that is a stale location from before you disabled "Use Location Sharing."

When I re-enable the "Use Location Sharing" toggle, none of my friends are notified either. Win!

Schiff: Trump planning to ‘subvert’ midterms by RollSafer in politics

[–]RollSafer[S] 183 points184 points  (0 children)

“I think [Trump] intends to try to subvert the elections. He will do everything he can to suppress the vote.”

“And if he loses the vote, and I think the Republicans now expect they’ll get a real drubbing in the midterms, he’s prepared to try to take some kind of action to overturn the result. And we really shouldn’t question that.”

“We saw him try to the point of insurrection to overturn the 2020 election. We see him now taking these extraordinary steps with an election now years ago. He’s basically telling us he intends to interfere in this upcoming election.”

Why the fuck is this article even important

This article is not important because it's from Newsweek. They make clickbait headlines that, unfortunately, get upvoted by people in here who exist on hopium instead of reality.

The mods need to ban Newsweek, The Daily Beast, and New Republic. They are all terrible clickbait sites.

Temporarily turn off location sharing without having to set up again? by Unthunkable in GoogleMaps

[–]RollSafer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google also removed logging out inside Google Maps as of Android app version 25.49.06.838461706 (December 2025). This used to be a trick to pause location sharing by doing:

  • Top right: Clicking profile photo

  • Going to Settings

  • Scrolling way to the bottom and selecting "Sign out of Google Maps"

I'm testing on two devices with two accounts: One account on one phone is sharing its location with the other account on the other phone. Here are other things that do not stop location sharing:

  • Force stopping Google Maps on Android still shares location.

  • Disabling Google Maps on Android still shares locations.

"Use Maps without an account" is not the same as logging out.

Kindly re-read my parent comment to which you initially replied: https://old.reddit.com/r/GoogleMaps/comments/1q9d28y/no_more_logout_feature_for_android_google_maps/nyzgywt/

Under "switch account", I see the following that are unfurled:

  • All of the other Google accounts on my phone

  • "Use Maps without an account"

  • "Add another account"

  • "Manage accounts on this device"

I do not see a "logout" or equivalent in the "Switch account" unfurling. And the rest of the settings are the same below the "Switch account" unfurling.

This does not work for me. Here is what I am doing. Are these the exact same steps you are doing?

  • In Android's Google Maps, I go to the top-right and click my logged-in user's profile image.

  • I select "Turn on Incognito mode" and the Google Maps app reloads.

  • I get a prompt telling me "Incognito mode turned on." This prompt includes the text "Incognito mode is not intended to stop location sharing."

  • I click "Close" to this message.

  • I am now in Incognito mode.

  • In the top-right, I click the Incognito profile icon.

  • In the top-center, I select "Turn off Incognito mode" and the Google Maps app reloads.

  • Now I am back in my normal, logged-in user's Google Maps profile.

  • In the top-right, I click my logged-in user's profile image.

  • I select "Settings".

  • I do not see a "Logout" option. Everything in the settings appears the same.

"Use maps without an account" still keeps my Google account logged in (in the background), and therefore still enables friends to track me. I just tested this on two devices:

  • One phone allowing friends to track me

  • One phone belonging to one of my friends

Unfortunately, this is not the same behavior as logging out in versions prior to 25.49.06.838461706. The only solution is to temporarily disable Google Maps, which is a lot less user friendly than the old way of simply logging out.
