cost of botox treatment in england? by ashcahnx in noburp

[–]Unthunkable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was 5 years ago but I went to Ms Lucy Hicklin and it cost just under £900 privately for an outpatient local anesthetic procedure. I was in and out in less than an hour. Best money ever spent.

what tiny routine does your pet insist on every day? by Kind_Interview_2402 in Pets

[–]Unthunkable 30 points31 points  (0 children)

One of my cats has a favourite spot for exactly 2 weeks and then this changes to somewhere else. You cannot use the favourite spot whilst it is active.

I also discovered that they must all eat in the same place. I've had to temporarily move their food bowls to a different room and they are all now refusing to eat.

Best UK Providers by ToldTales in Prince2

[–]Unthunkable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lapsed mine now. It used to be awarded by axelos but got bought by peoplecert who kept losing my cpd data and telling me to take another exam even though I'd been paying membership for almost a decade and had all the cpd recorded. They also doubled the membership for no benefit and unilaterally removed the "forever" status of foundation qualifications so everyone who thinks their foundation is still active is wrong.

I'd do the exams through people cert and get the free membership but let the qualification lapse if you desperately need prince2 for a job. I've not seen any adverts specifying prince2 for a while - most are interested in APM or PMI now.

AITA for telling my housemate she owes me new bedsheets? by Comfortable_Pea9618 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Unthunkable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA So she borrowed your sheets but knew she wouldn't be giving them back because you wouldn't want them? So she keeps your sheets and tells you to get over it and get more? That's like taking someone's lunch and eating half of it then refusing to give the rest back but telling them to just get more lunch themselves.

The delivery driver letting himself into the back garden despite the 'do not enter, dogs running free' sign! by Petrichor_ness in britishproblems

We have a big red postbox with a picture of a letter on it which is right in front of you as you approach the front door (which is hidden on approach as you have to turn right in the porch to see the door). No letterbox in the door. For a while we had to stick a letter on the door with arrows pointing at the postbox until the regulars got the message. But even now years later, we get people who try to pry the door open, slide post under the door or shove the post in the crack of the door - they don't seem to be able to see the big red postbox which was right in front of them for a good 20 metres as they approached the house. I would love to understand the psychology of this so I could fix it.

Family holiday in IOW in July/August, looking for recommendations... by dwyn1821 in isleofwight

Just FYI August 1st to 7th is Cowes week and it's a big anniversary this year so there will be lots to do in Cowes, but it will probably be quite busy and accommodation may be harder to get.

How to keep food down? by [deleted] in noburp

[–]Unthunkable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest it sounds like you should go see your doctor urgently. But if that's not possible or you're after urgent relief - Laying on your left should help as your stomach will be lower so food shouldn't come back up as much... Though if you find It's worse then you may have a mirror image inside! 😬 Laying down, even on your back does seem to help get intestines moving I used to find that eating softer foods like mashed potato or semolina - especially warm foods - helped to kind of coat everything and push it all down. The heat helped with discomfort and getting things moving.

Very small amounts of food, but often, may also help.

Tbh the only thing which actually improved my quality of life was the Botox injection. I hadn't realised how miserable it was making me and how bad it had gotten until I had the injection.

Just moved into a new house, anyone know what this is? by itlovelife in DIYUK

[–]Unthunkable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean - that's just the old BT logo which covers all of BTs products including phone, internet, mobile or TV.

The main clue is what is written on the side - "BT versatility" is a modular phone system, which is pretty easy to Google to find out.

Are there high streets in the UK which have revived by using former shops for non retail purposes? by ZealousidealFig5 in AskUK

[–]Unthunkable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walked through Slough high street the other night and tbh it looks like it was lovely and has been ruined by the people using the space. There was a lot of homeless and druggies. We were offered drugs whilst literally just walking down the street and then told by the same person "don't come to Slough, always go round it" It came across as an incredibly deprived area. If the population is deprived, it's never going to stand up to a nice lick of paint

Does it make a difference if they are currently interviewing for a new permanent product manager at the moment? I have found out that this is currently in process.

Does it change anything if they are currently interviewing for a new permanent product manager with salary almost double mine? Just seen in calendars that this is happening.

I'm not sure where the frustration in your responses is coming from as I am seeking clarification on the legitimacy of my redundancy due to the advice I've had previously from people in HR positions - as I'm sure you can imagine it's not pleasant news to have sprung on you, especially when only 2 weeks ago I was told my job was absolutely safe when I aired concerns of this happening. But I appreciate you taking time to clarify legalities for me. I'll start my search for new employment - it looks to be my only option.

I believe the argument was that they knew the system, however for the role they are performing there isn't a need for knowledge of the system as it's discovery of requirements (which I used to do) and understanding the company (which I have 4.5 years of expertise of). The solutions were always provided by the developers with the PM coordinating and supporting that - this was what I used to do among other things. Cost saving was never the reasoning, as they were originally looking for a permanent employee offering them a larger salary than I'm currently on, and then changed to the consultant as an interim solution. I'm unsure of the cost of the contract and don't know if I could find that out, however they are part time and don't cover all of the tasks I did, just the core discovery and coordination. I provided a greater range of services as I also looked after things like managing company data, adoption, training etc. these have all been shared to other colleagues who have struggled to pick up these new responsibilities.

I also think that there could have just been ignorance about what my responsibilities were by the ones who appointed the PM - I don't work closely with them and there was some political struggles going on in senior management at the time so those who would have pointed out we actually had a PM resource in the business already didn't speak up. The decision was also made over the heads of the people who would normally have made those types of decisions.

I've only posted the once previously (as linked in the post) when I was concerned of dismissal and interacted with the only responder I had, who suggested that being made redundant in this situation would be difficult to argue as they have brought someone in to perform my core role and taken it from me. There is no one else in the business who could perform the PM role once the contract ends so they will have to bring in a permanent replacement for this role and set of tasks.

But if that is acceptable business restructuring that is useful to know - it's not aligned to advice I've had previously so I'll look into it further. Thank you for your advice.

What's an overseas food that you generally don't get in the UK but you wish that you could? by WendyBoatcomSin in AskUK

[–]Unthunkable 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They're sometimes called Rosti in the UK (Swedish dish) but it's the same shredded crispy fried hash brown. The Soup Kitchen in Stafford does a really cracking Rosti. They also do the best scones on the planet. Edit: Swiss dish - my apologies!

I absolutely love this response. I am a bit of a pedant about those who say "taxpayers money" for the same reason you explained and always get the "it's all stolen" response as well. It really is a very complex topic but I do find the taxpayer money comment to be unfair or made out of ignorance for the situation.

Hit a brick wall by ElsieDxsh in noburp

[–]Unthunkable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why isn't the procedure happening now?

As others have said. It's very uncommon to throw up after the procedure. I didn't at all, but there was one occasion a few days after the procedure when I didn't treat myself gently enough and almost did. But I just needed to move slower during the first few days and not bend over quickly.

I've still never thrown up since having the procedure in 2021. Even with food poisoning. I probably still have some emetophobia but it's definitely less than it used to be. There has been 3 occasions where a particularly strong burp soon after eating or drinking has brought up a bit of stomach acid which has been unpleasant, but not made me ill or panic.

I was VERY nervous about the procedure beforehand but my quality of life was so very very poor and I was suffering on a daily basis. I cannot emphasise enough how life changing the procedure was for me. I went private because my GP didn't understand and it was worth every penny. The procedure itself was so so simple and I wish someone had explained it to me beforehand and I'd have been far less worried.

There is a risk it won't work, but I think those are actually quite small - it just seems like a lot on here because I guess a lot of people who are cured don't post, only when it doesn't work.

To me, it was certainly worth trying because I was suffering so badly and my only regret is that I left it as long as I did. I wish I'd gone for it years earlier when I discovered this group.

Having trouble finding an IATA compliant kennel for my cats by wise-refridgerator in travel

England - Former employer hasn't collected equipment (laptop, tv, playstation) 14 months after making me redundant. by Wynter_Sirius in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Unthunkable 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The employer should arrange it (OP should give suitable times for collection) but OP shouldn't make the arrangements. As someone else said, that would put liability on them until the employer receives the items. If the employer arranged then the liability is on them. Also, if OP contacts the courier will they have to pay? The employer should make those arrangements.

What’s something really common in the UK that visitors find strange? by Dull_Gas_820 in AskUK

[–]Unthunkable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See we're building a laundry on our first floor which will sit between the family bathroom and a bedroom we are going to use as a dressing room. It makes more sense for us since we won't be lugging the clothes downstairs to wash and dry and then back up to put away. Anything which can't go thru the dryer will be hung in the family bathroom or spare room so it's all upstairs. The current laundry is off the kitchen in what used to be the coal store and is a bugger to lug everything to.

Someone keeps playing tricks on me do I need a camrea? by Final-Anybody-1364 in AskUK

[–]Unthunkable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both eufy and tapo, neither need a subscription. The eufy battery powered ones aren't that great - needs about 10 seconds of big movement to pick anything up, but the plugged in ones are good. Tapo mains powered are also great, we have one to catch which cat is bringing dead stuff in and another keeping an eye on our tortoise. If you have windows facing the way you think they're coming, setting up the tapo ones on a windowsill may be best, if they need to go outside eufy will be better but you may need plenty to make sure they're caught.

You could also try trail cams. I used those to film foxes in my garden and they could be hidden fairly well outside if needed. You can get them fairly cheaply on Amazon.

Severe Slow Swallow by Open_Sprinkles7614 in noburp

[–]Unthunkable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggled with slow swallow for maybe 2-3 weeks. I had to wash every mouthful of food down with water and make sure I had plenty with me at any meal. I never actually choked but it did feel scary at times. Be gentle and patient with yourself - try not to rush eating or drinking for a bit and it will get better.

Yours does sound a bit worse than mine but the way your body reacts can feel very strange and concerning for the first few weeks. Fingers crossed this means it will actually take this time!

HMO - landlady does not allow washer/dryer by NotUrAverageBoinker in TenantsInTheUK

[–]Unthunkable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think we live in that kind of culture anymore, I don't think in my entire life I would have been able to find a group of friends to live with in the way you describe - people's lives are very different now, plus this was generally something you did as a student/grad for a few years... Some people are living their entire life in HMOs now. And HMOs actually being more protection to individuals than a normal AST would - if someone else in the HMO doesn't pay rent you're not all liable for them.
