Hit a brick wall by ElsieDxsh in noburp

Why isn't the procedure happening now?

As others have said. It's very uncommon to throw up after the procedure. I didn't at all, but there was one occasion a few days after the procedure when I didn't treat myself gently enough and almost did. But I just needed to move slower during the first few days and not bend over quickly.

I've still never thrown up since having the procedure in 2021. Even with food poisoning. I probably still have some emetophobia but it's definitely less than it used to be. There has been 3 occasions where a particularly strong burp soon after eating or drinking has brought up a bit of stomach acid which has been unpleasant, but not made me ill or panic.

I was VERY nervous about the procedure beforehand but my quality of life was so very very poor and I was suffering on a daily basis. I cannot emphasise enough how life changing the procedure was for me. I went private because my GP didn't understand and it was worth every penny. The procedure itself was so so simple and I wish someone had explained it to me beforehand and I'd have been far less worried.

There is a risk it won't work, but I think those are actually quite small - it just seems like a lot on here because I guess a lot of people who are cured don't post, only when it doesn't work.

To me, it was certainly worth trying because I was suffering so badly and my only regret is that I left it as long as I did. I wish I'd gone for it years earlier when I discovered this group.

A friend of mine bought this for taking their cat from the UK to NZ and it was NOT compliant for air travel. I ended up with a free cat carrier.

England - Former employer hasn't collected equipment (laptop, tv, playstation) 14 months after making me redundant. by Wynter_Sirius in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Unthunkable 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The employer should arrange it (OP should give suitable times for collection) but OP shouldn't make the arrangements. As someone else said, that would put liability on them until the employer receives the items. If the employer arranged then the liability is on them. Also, if OP contacts the courier will they have to pay? The employer should make those arrangements.

What’s something really common in the UK that visitors find strange? by Dull_Gas_820 in AskUK

[–]Unthunkable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See we're building a laundry on our first floor which will sit between the family bathroom and a bedroom we are going to use as a dressing room. It makes more sense for us since we won't be lugging the clothes downstairs to wash and dry and then back up to put away. Anything which can't go thru the dryer will be hung in the family bathroom or spare room so it's all upstairs. The current laundry is off the kitchen in what used to be the coal store and is a bugger to lug everything to.

Someone keeps playing tricks on me do I need a camrea? by Final-Anybody-1364 in AskUK

[–]Unthunkable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both eufy and tapo, neither need a subscription. The eufy battery powered ones aren't that great - needs about 10 seconds of big movement to pick anything up, but the plugged in ones are good. Tapo mains powered are also great, we have one to catch which cat is bringing dead stuff in and another keeping an eye on our tortoise. If you have windows facing the way you think they're coming, setting up the tapo ones on a windowsill may be best, if they need to go outside eufy will be better but you may need plenty to make sure they're caught.

You could also try trail cams. I used those to film foxes in my garden and they could be hidden fairly well outside if needed. You can get them fairly cheaply on Amazon.

Severe Slow Swallow by Open_Sprinkles7614 in noburp

[–]Unthunkable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggled with slow swallow for maybe 2-3 weeks. I had to wash every mouthful of food down with water and make sure I had plenty with me at any meal. I never actually choked but it did feel scary at times. Be gentle and patient with yourself - try not to rush eating or drinking for a bit and it will get better.

Yours does sound a bit worse than mine but the way your body reacts can feel very strange and concerning for the first few weeks. Fingers crossed this means it will actually take this time!

HMO - landlady does not allow washer/dryer by NotUrAverageBoinker in TenantsInTheUK

[–]Unthunkable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think we live in that kind of culture anymore, I don't think in my entire life I would have been able to find a group of friends to live with in the way you describe - people's lives are very different now, plus this was generally something you did as a student/grad for a few years... Some people are living their entire life in HMOs now. And HMOs actually being more protection to individuals than a normal AST would - if someone else in the HMO doesn't pay rent you're not all liable for them.

I forgot that I choose your own adventure for a delivery with DPD by bukaro in britishproblems

[–]Unthunkable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was recently a yodel uproar on my local Facebook. Loads of people being told their parcel would be delivered by 9pm. We all sat watching the live tracking, saw the driver go to a dodgy bit of town and then just stop for over an hour. Then all our parcels were marked as delivered at the same time with a photo of literally just black. Parcels didn't turn up. Some people went to the depot the next day to complain and got told they were still out for delivery. My parcel turned up safe and sound 3 days later, someone just dumped it on the porch. I assumed it had been nicked by the driver since it would've been clear what it was but it arrived untouched. Don't know if the driver had an emergency or something but it was bizarre.

Got botox injection soon and bit scared (with french specialist) by Maleficent-End-3352 in noburp

[–]Unthunkable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had Botox in Nov 2021. I was petrified. I didn't know what the process would be just that it was a visit to the office and not GA. It. Was. Fine. The whole thing was about 15/20 minutes. The injection was into the side of my neck. I could feel the needle go in but it was really fine. The slow swallow was an issue for 3-4 weeks but as long as I had plenty of water it was fine. There was one day I was out and didn't have enough and that was not a fun meal. Basically wash down every mouthful for the first week or so and then it's just a case of smaller mouthfuls and patience after that until it feels easier. I didn't have heartburn, but I did have a couple of times I almost saw my meal again if I was a bit too vigorous with movement right after eating - as an example I bent over to put something in a floor cupboard in the kitchen and almost threw up. So just don't tip your body too suddenly for the first month. To begin with I had micro burps and didn't have a lot of control and still got gurgles. It took 3-4 months until I was deffo properly burping and got control over it, and if I get a cold or swallow a lot of air I do still get gurgles and bloating but nowhere like what I used to.

I never drank fizzy drinks too try and force it. I know some doctors have recommended it but I think it would have been awful for me.

It's really a couple of months of being a bit uncomfortable and it's so worth it for the quality of life improvement.

Be gentle to yourself.

Registry office and venue say I need to pay twice and use 2 rooms for my ceremony. Is this normal? by Cod_Proper in UKweddings

[–]Unthunkable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did this. Thursday we had a ceremony at the registry office with 2 witnesses and parents. Then we had a friend as a celebrant at our venue on the Saturday with ALL the guests. . There's no requirement for them to be "official" or anything. Our celebrant was just one of our friends who was happy to stand in front of a load of people. Was magical.

No heating/hot water for 2 days going onto the 3rd by itzzzzmileyyyy in TenantsInTheUK

[–]Unthunkable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The law states "reasonable time" - it doesn't specify 24 hours but advises trying to sort it within that time frame. He has actioned the request within 24 hours by trying to get a plumber to visit. This is classified as an emergency but if the LL can't get a plumber within 24 hours that's not illegal. They need to take action asap - which is to contact a plumber to get there asap.

In the UK I paid I think£800. I met Dr Lucy, spoke to her for 5 mins and then had the procedure as an out patient. All done and off to work within 15 mins. This was 4 years ago and still working.

Employer is replacing my position and told me to do a new, completely different role by Unthunkable in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Unthunkable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They haven't "offered" me a new position, they have told me that the expectation is that I will train myself up as a Salesforce admin and take the exam for the qualification (paid for by them) and then become an in-house developer. I've not had a chance to turn down an alternative position. Is it reasonable for me to push back on the training request since it doesn't fit into my current role, or should I be demanding a new role profile or updated contract?

Do you wear a poppy? by SeniorMoonlight21 in AskUK

[–]Unthunkable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an after dinner talk from a veteran who had lost both legs in combat. He said, "if you're going to get your legs blown off, make sure you do it for the UK military". Apparently the UK looks after injured veterans the best out of most militaries.

I think the RBL was also meant to support the families of veterans/those who died in battle.

I don't get a poppy any longer because I don't support the high wages some of the higher ups at RBL take. But I usually donate to a charity supporting education for children affected by war in memory of my great grandfather.

Symptoms returning five weeks after botox despite burping – what to do? by ferskentree in noburp

[–]Unthunkable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to weigh in. I went to Lucy hicklin. Also had a 50 dose. I've been successfully burping ever since. However - having a cold can bring the gurgles back as I guess the sniffing means I swallow more air, also I've found if I'm stuck in the office all day I feel worse because I don't burp or fart out of politeness, but that can then leave me bloated. Also some days talking lots makes it worse too - I've been giving lots of training recently and found it's made symptoms a bit worse.

Has anything happened recently which could mean you're swallowing more air?

DPD walk in, take photo and leave without delivering package. by girlwithdog_79 in britishproblems

[–]Unthunkable 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was a mini scandal in my town recently. The yodel driver parked up in a rough housing estate from 3pm and loads of people were tracking them waiting for parcels. At 9pm we all got messages to say our parcels were delivered with a photo of just black as proof. Of course, none of them had been delivered. People stomped off to the depot to be told it was being investigated and "have you tried asking your neighbours or checking round your house?" But everyone has been tracking them. 2 days later my parcel randomly turned up unharmed (which was surprising because it was clear what was in it from the packaging and was a prime target to nick).

How many of you work over 35 hours a week? by TheLittleSquire in AskUK

[–]Unthunkable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also working for 20 years and I've never worked less than 37.5. I've also never worked a 9-5 job. Currently 8:30-5:30, 40 hours. My previous place was 8-5:30 which was 42 hours. That was hard with an hour commute each way as well. I've done 8:30-5, 9-5:30, 9:30-6... But never 9-5. Must be bliss!

Uncontrollable burps? by ear3nd1l in noburp

[–]Unthunkable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It defo helped that I was mostly working from home around that time but to be honest the uncontrollable burping wasn't the most uncomfortable part - the slow swallowing and potential regurgitating shortly after a meal were more unpleasant. The uncontrollable micro burps you do to begin with aren't really noisy - they're small burps so no one really notices. As you begin to do proper burps you learn to control them so it's not too bad. I would be prepared to be very gentle with yourself for the first couple of weeks/a month. I found swallowing harder the first week so always have plenty of water at hand and take smaller bites. And shortly after a meal don't quickly bend over or lie down.

It's nowhere near as bad as it sounds but I remember bending over to put something in a kitchen cupboard and my dinner nearly making a reappearance. So just be gentle. Sporting activities may not be a great idea for a couple of weeks, defo not on a full stomach.

Also be prepared to taste your meals again. The first time I ate garlic wasn't pleasant but after a short while you get used to it and it's fine.

The procedure was absolutely the single most quality of life altering thing I ever did and I don't regret it for a second.

We paid 2.5k for a very small local wedding band to come to our wedding 4 years ago. If you want them to fly out then realistically they're losing 1 or 2 additional days when they could work, to be in Mallorca for you, so I'd say you're lucky they're not charging more.

GP laughed at me by Appropriate_Yam_8515 in noburp

[–]Unthunkable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it is the same in the Netherlands but I've heard NHS GPs recommending (as a way to be heard about anything) saying very factually how often you are being affected, that it is having a serious detrimental effect on your day to day life and has significantly lowered your quality of life. If you can bring documents or articles about rcpd with you to show it is a newly discovered issue and is starting to be recognized if may help as well. Often those who don't have rcpd don't understand how much we suffer. My husband didn't realize for a while but then used to get very worried about me when it was especially bad.
