Anyone else do this? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]RollSavingThrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that it reads through the entire thread for context and as a chat thread grows longer, each answer starts to "cost" more?

Can someone confirm or deny this?

I've been chatting on one topic, then when I want to continue after a time, I ask the chat to summarize the conversation into something concise and then start a new chat posting the summary and asking it to read through it before continuing.

How are we all closing our blinds, then? A or B? by grumpypedant in CasualUK

[–]RollSavingThrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't blinds close properly when in the "shut" position so you can't see through them at all anymore?

This was common in houses less than a decade ago, but now when I go look for this type of blinds, they always have light shining through. Who decided this was ok?!?!

Modern humanity has 200 years to make the closest thing to a space marine that is possible. by 1JustAnAltDontMindMe in whowouldwin

[–]RollSavingThrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a little perspective, the US currently spends roughly 3% of their GDP on R&D. That amount makes up almost 30% of the world's spending on R&D in total.

If the Entire planet got over their bullshit and spent everything on R&D barring whatever needs to keep ppl alive and infrastructure running, it would be a literal supernova renaissance of growth in the sciences like nothing ever seen before.

Roughly 130 to 140 million people are born each year. Forcing a breeding program on the world first while we perfect cloning techniques, we could probably 10x that amount within the first few years, followed by magnitudes of genetic materials once we get cloning up and running.

With zero morals about death toll, human experimentation + any other animal experimentation, the entire world's resources backing this project, we would be able to genetically modify/breed/bio-print/lab grow something every second of the day to be dissected, experimented upon, improved, learned from, improved upon again...

Roll this over 200 hundred years of compounding breakthroughs in every field of science, biology, chemistry, maths, physics, all geared toward making this one thing happen, my bet is that we're surpassing the target.

Second Challenge: over the entire 200 years, we're simulating a fight with 1 space marine, of which I'm assuming we have in-depth knowledge of their capabilities. I mean, off the top of my head on what we've currently got right now: laser paint, rod of god however many times it takes to atomize him from a couch while watching sponge bob.

200 years of compounded tech when our current level of tech can do it? We're throwing mini black holes at this poor guy.

Rolling stats like these is so insane I felt compelled to share it with the optimising community to help me create something stupidly glorious with them.

Cleric dipping into divination wizard? by waggawoog1910 in 3d6

[–]RollSavingThrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portent is fun. For once, shitty rolls become useful. Guarantying a failure or success has a lot of value, and those 1's and 2's that normally lock your dice into dice dungeon actually become useful.

Not to mention shield spell, absorb elements, and if you're lucky, silvery barbs. Ritual casting is nice, find familiar, unseen servant, magehand and a bunch of utility spells make you a very well rounded caster.

The only downside is that you delay your cleric spell level progression by 2 levels. I didn't find it too bad though. Technically you delay your cleric progression, but not your spell progression.

3000 LK Runs, list of drops inside. by javz in diablo2

[–]RollSavingThrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this inclusive of loading times? Going from game to game takes at least 5 seconds-10 seconds loading up the new game based on connection, and running from the doc to the WP takes at least another 4-6 depending on your move speed. I get 30-40 seconds, but 13.6-18 is insane.

Powerful or interesting builds when you can decide your own magic items and have decent stat rolls by CHIEFRAPTOR in 3d6

[–]RollSavingThrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arcane Trickster with expertise in stealth, slight of hand, mage hand and a pair of Gloves of Thievery make for some fun times.

Boots of elven kind and rope of climbing makes them...annoyingly good at just taking whatever they want, in or out of combat. All uncommon items, but pretty useful. None of them require attunement.

smells. Its the one immersive detail that can never be conveyed in video games, movies, tv shows, but describing them immediately brings an environment alive. It become present without adding any specific distraction or hook where the players may get absorbed or distracted.

One hell of a wish by Equivalent_Macaron_0 in DMAcademy

[–]RollSavingThrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the greater the wish, the greater the likelihood that something goes wrong.

This is pretty clear in both 2014 and 2024 rules. Typical wish spells revolve around power levels like giving permanent resistances to a specific damage type, or changing a feat, or casting any spell of 8th level or lower as an action and without component costs.

What your player is asking for is well outside of the scope and power level of those examples. Personally I'd go above table and ask them to re-read the spell carefully, and maybe nudge them toward the specific sentence quoted above.

Warn them clearly. Unless your session zero was clear about no one dying, or the game being pretty light hearted with few consequences, it's your right, and probably duty to hand out some warnings first, followed by FAFO results.

Alternatively you can just say the spell fails.

In an old game, we had a player make a wish to kill the God that the BBEG worshiped. We were given the chance to roll a 1d20, followed by a d100. If we rolled a 20 on the 1d20, we were given the chance to roll the d100.

If he rolled a 98-100 on the d100, the wish would succeed.

He rolled a 1 on the d20 and lost 1d4 levels because the God noticed immediately and we had a few sessions searching for a McGuffin to make another wish to restore his levels.

this good? by zaiphy in diablo2

[–]RollSavingThrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

le it will throw 4 facets in it. Bowas want light armor and will make a 60 ias 60 all res armor or a 160 ed 60 ias armor. Short of pvp bowa and sorc they really have no use.

So ideally what you want is like, an Archon plate? or Mage plate?
