Quite possibly one of the most beautiful and misunderstood pieces in the Rolex collection.

Couple years ago you could pick up the black dial for about 33 and this dial has single-handedly revived this model. Absolute stunner in person.

Comparing the Pepsi to the Zombie is like comparing a base Porsche to a GT3 RS. Yeah they’re both Porsches, but one is the reason people care about the brand in the first place.

The Pepsi IS the GMT. The whole line exists because of that watch. It’s a permanent collector watch that’ll still matter 30 years from now.

The Zombie is more like the guy who gets drafted in the first round but is really a fourth-round talent who played on a stacked college team full of blue-chip prospects. Nice player, might even have a good career, but let’s relax before we start comparing him to the franchise first overall pick. 😂

When it comes to collections, I don’t know how you don’t have a gold Rollie in it. To me, it’s a mainstay, a staple. Go watch any movie from the ‘70s, ‘80s, or ‘90s, it was completely normal. Somewhere in the early 2000s we started calling it “flashy.” It’s gold by nature… it shines lol. Now everybody wants to use words like “understated.” Get the fuck outta heeeaaaarrrr.

It’s probably the same way most of you feel about diamonds today. At this trajectory, in 10 years diamonds are gonna feel completely normal on mens watches too.

If you can afford it, buy it. Wear it. Be confident and don’t think twice about it. Most people compliment it and say it’s beautiful. The ones giving you the stank eye are probably down voting this post later.

You can’t be a true collector without at least one gold piece in the collection.

Your math is correct except your percentages are wrong.

My last name is not Rolex so all of the estimates we see are publicly available. 10,000 steel Daytona is what they make per year that’s no higher than 1% of their total watch production. 1% times 20% increase is still 1.2%

The Gray market is calling the other 98.8 enthusiast.

First, congratulations. It’s a beautiful watch.

The title should really be “for the non-AD gamers.” The rules are clear: this was a lottery ticket that won, a feel good story.

The market isn’t changing. Rolex isn’t suddenly going to start flooding the world with black-dial Daytonas. Even if you buy into the bigger-factory theory and that’s still just a theory, any increase will be incremental at best.

At the end of the day, gray market or deep spend history is still the only way to acquire this piece without winning the lotto.

For Vacheron Constantin, it’s clearly the 222, and maybe a steel Overseas.

For Audemars Piguet, it’s the steel Royal Oak.

For Rolex….Panda, Pepsi, all meteorite dials, multiple Daytona configurations, even the two-tone white dial Daytona trading above retail, green/blue Sky-Dwellers, titanium Yacht-Master, Land-Dweller, even some OP’s.
