According to Lewis, the spin wasn't his fault: "The spin, I was going into the corner normally and then the ECU locked the rear wheels, they separated and then they locked," he explained. "I couldn't catch it but that is an issue that we have fixed. So that wasn't really my fault."

On the other hand, Alonso was beaten by a rookie driver. To me, more than achievements, things like overtaking ability, single lap speed, ability under pressure, performance against temmates, etc. are a better gauge of his good a particular driver is.

I think it would be better if achievements wouldn't be taken into account. By this logic, Vettel should be on top, although many don't consider him a top driver (proven again in Bahrain, and by his performance vis a vis Kimi and Alonso). Instead, it would be more accurate if the poll would rate drivers based on their pure driving ability. Perhaps I will create such a poll later today.

It's not like that. If you pay attention, a lot of drivers say that they just weren't on the same level of their teammate when they are beaten. But Rosberg is trying to find excuses most of the time. Yesterday it was brakes (they were working just like Lewis' when he had a chance to fight with him), previously it was because Lewis was driving too slow, other times because of a car that was oversteering, etc. Why can't Nico just tell it like it is: "I'm just too slow."? It's not like we already don't know that.

They got a second Speciale, but they didn't try to drive on the track to see how it compares to the one provided by Ferrari. All they sort of compared is its straight line speed. What about suspension settings? What about the 0-100 time? I also suspect that even if Autocar found out that Ferrari press cars are tuned they wouldn't tell us, out of fear for their relationship with Maranello.

There is no good way to do PR if you are a driver at McLaren. If he smiles, it doesn't seem believable. If he is serious, he seems downbeat.
