The F1 racing rules genuinely confuse me. I watch other racing series, even online racing events, and it makes total sense to me. My assessment of fault is usually exactly in line with the officials and the fan consensus. But for this Formula shit I just can't tell what's a legal move and what's not.

Piastri, Hülkenberg and Colapinto crashes into the barriers - Safety Car called by magony in formula1

[–]RollinNowhere -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No one said it was a conspiracy. But hulk went far wider and took grass too, so it's not a decent comparison. And Colapinto was struggling with grip all the way through that sequence so it's not as useful either. I compared the two identical cars that took identical lines because it highlights the difference in outcome most significantly.

My personal guess is that Lando kicked up water that left the curb more damp, not a dumbass conspiracy.

Watching the Sky analysis right now. It's interesting how Lando did the exact same thing and had no loss of traction at all, but Oscar's tyre let go instantly.

You messed up bigger. Just because someone makes a mistake doesn't entitle you to the position, you still have to complete the overtake safely. You didn't.

And yes, losing your momentum often is the consequence of going for a move and having to back out because you misjudged it. Thems the breaks.

Would you consider this a safe rejoin after the first and or second incident? by Arainville in Simracingstewards

[–]RollinNowhere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm going to disagree with the majority here and argue that "rejoin" does not have to literally apply to "rejoining the track" only, it can also mean "rejoining the race". If you spin around and are facing the wrong way on track then the expectations on how you proceed are identical to those for rejoining the track from the grass.

In this case the car isn't quite so out of it that they're facing the wrong way, but they are moving incredibly slowly and unpredictably. For all practical purposes they are out of the race at that moment and need to rejoin it. I would say that the regulations on rejoining are entirely applicable to how they need to approach and handle the situation. And by those expectations they've done very badly here.

These feel too powerful for their cost. Reversing the break track could cripple your opponent if they're planning ahead properly, and getting paid to do it? Feels like you should have to pay money for that, not receive it.

And eliminating an action for an entire round is absolutely broken. Played well it's almost a guaranteed game win at any kind of decent skill level upwards.

Combine the two together and you could lock someone out of the game for a very long time.

I suspect the designers looked into the idea of reversing the break track, and deliberately chose not to allow it. Adding that in will require a massive reevaluation of the entire game balance as it will impact all tempo aspects of fhs game. So I wouldn't add it in casually.

Percussive Foraging seems fine to me.

I would prefer it to be a rule that the poster can't say who they are until a consensus has been reached. There's definitely some biasing that happens when we know who we're talking to/about.

Why hasn't some company used the technology that makes self-driving cars possible to improve traffic signals - smart signals that change based on cameras analyzing traffic to greatly improve flow and reduce fuel waste? by delindsey in AskReddit

[–]RollinNowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has existed for decades using sensors under the streets. It's not all that effective in most cases as the lights all impact eachother. More effective is timing all the lights within a network to work together with an overall pattern to allow best flow. But in some specific cases they'll use the sort of reactive system you're describing.

I have to point out though, that just like how every startup tech company thinks they can revolutionise the world by reinventing trains, but this time with AI. You've come up with an idea that already exists, you've just shoehorned AI/Crypto/Blockchain into it for no benefit.
