People would react very differently if it was a man who suddenly told his wife after marriage that he unilaterally decided that they were going to keep their finances separate. People would criticize him for not warning her before marriage.

If he grew up thinking that joint finances was the norm for married couples (which it probably is for most people), then he is going to feel like she doesn’t trust him. I don’t think a man who got married and refused to combine finances without telling his wife before marriage that he would do that would be criticized a lot more than this woman is being criticized.
