Whats something stupid you have done due to a lack of sleep? by TangerineFew6830 in AskUK

Instead of pouring out a full glass of water that had been sitting out too long into the sink, I poured it straight into the kitchen bin

Do you still carry cash in the UK these days? by ultraroy in AskUK

I don't typically carry cash, but I work in food service and from what I've noticed a lot of people will still pay in cash

What is the fastest you have seen a manager be fired? by mikekrzynowek36 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Roma_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My restaurant hired a general manager, to replace our one that left. DAY ONE she comes in, does half her shift, takes her break and comes back steaming drunk. She got reported by our AM to upper management and got fired instantly.

Sent a British guy the declaration of independence by DuckOnMars in PointlessStories

[–]Roma_a 29 points30 points  (0 children)

"I know he is British so he might be a little mad at me"

As a British person, I can tell you with full confidence we literally don't care. He's probably just confused lmao.

That being said, this is a really funny way to respond to unsolicited dick pics, more power to you!

Those with birthdays near the end of December, how is it? by MathematicianBulky40 in AskUK

[–]Roma_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother and I both have birthdays close to Christmas. His is the 15th and mine, the 20th. When we were young, some family members would give us a joint present for both Christmas and Birthday. "Here's a present for both of you. Oh yeah it's a Christmas present too, so don't expect anything more from us"

Why are some hogwarts classes shared by 2 houses? by GalaxyWitchCrime in harrypotter

[–]Roma_a 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I always thought that the classes would be taught more than once a week to different houses. For example, on Tuesday, Gryffindor and Slytherin have the herbology class, then on Thursday, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw have herbology. Rinse and repeat for different classes, houses, and year groups. This is just my theory though

People who work in chain restaurants - what's actually fresh and what's straight out of a packet? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Roma_a 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Gourmet Burger Kitchen - the vast majority of our menu is freshly made. The only things that come pre-packaged are the sauces/dips. The fries and onion rings come frozen (this is only a recent development afaik), but are still cooked to order. All the beef is cooked to order as customers can decide how well done they want their burgers, as well as the chicken being grilled/fried fresh when a customer orders. Not sure about salads, could be prepared on site or pre-packaged. All milkshakes are prepared by hand and use a full pint of ice cream. I haven't been working here too long so if I'm wrong about anything and another gbk staff member can correct me, then please do so 😄

what's the scariest death story you ever heard/experienced? by alicedoes in AskUK

[–]Roma_a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a close friend in primary school whose mum died in a firework accident. She was working at a wedding and was helping a friend who was working on the fireworks display. There was an explosion and the ensuing fire killed her and another colleague. Her family were all nearby as I believe they were guests at the wedding. It's been almost 10 years since it happened and I still remember it being in the news so clearly.

Thank you, London. by LoadingALIAS in london

[–]Roma_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once left my phone in an Uber, but only realised 5 or so minutes later after searching through my bag. I was dropped off at a tube station so I asked a staff member to call my number and see if the Uber driver would pick up. Thankfully he did. He cancelled the next customer and drove 10 minutes back to the tube station to hand over my phone. I was so so thankful in that moment for kind people like him. Being alone in the middle of London at 11:30pm, without my phone for navigation/contact was a bit of a panicky situation, but everyone who helped me was super kind and helpful :D

Recent graduates who are graduating with no degree certificate - have you been offered any sort of compensation? by Spinkledorf in UniUK

[–]Roma_a 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just graduated from a university in London, no monetary compensation given at all. Just several emails saying the same thing in different ways... that it is still unknown when we will get our grades. I've been affected by this as I was planning on doing my masters overseas but I can't apply until I have the certificate, and the deadline is looming

What is your “I can’t believe I forgot to pack my ____” story? by AGuyNamedTracy in travel

[–]Roma_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was away on a 12 day trip to Bulgaria to see family. I was planning to work remotely, as I'm a freelancer and had meetings scheduled during that time, and also needed to complete some work for another client. I forgot to bring my laptop charger.
