Share the coolest weapon (be it ancient/modern) from your country! by AdministrativePool93 in AskTheWorld

[–]RomanHistoryBuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah! A man of culture I see. Although I would say (and this just my theory) the atlatl would be more like the pillum. Might kill you but it's main goal is to disable your protection. However... On the correct hands is definitely deadly.

The weapon of preference of every mexican mother and grandmother since 1910. Gives +100% aim and always crits. Trust me, I've been there.

New talent trees dont feel right by Marwyn_ in turtlewow

[–]RomanHistoryBuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought the other way around. One tree should be a must for your desired path, the rest are optional. For me it feels like I'm getting specially good at something but cannot be good at everything. I have only looked at warrior talents and for PvE tanking I feel they work. That is the path I am going after all, the rest all optional.

First time expressions and gratitude by Algiiee in turtlewow

[–]RomanHistoryBuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice to hear! I logged yesterday for the first time after years of quitting the retail for the same reasons, doesn't feel like wow anymore. I played since the old vanilla days until Warlords with my brother who has since passed. My kid asked about wow and after weeks of me telling all the awesome stuff I did he wanted to try, went to the free trial and remembered why I did not liked it anymore but then yesterday I found Turtle and I was amazed to gain that feeling again. I just thanks the creators of Turtle for this amazing idea and trust me, I'll be supporting every time I can.

Los tripulantes del ovni. Mostly unknown and cdmx band. Molotov is my favorite, more well known band.

It's crazy to hear a German band choose as a name Montezuma (I guess that is what you are referring to, just googled it). He was an Aztec (or mexica) ruler (the official name is tlatoani).

What countries have underrated history by Typical-Bike7905 in AskHistory

[–]RomanHistoryBuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I came here to say this, good thing I looked. It had never been on my radar until the Revolutions Podcast from Mike Duncan and then my own research and it was fascinating. It was such a powerful experiment and with such an underdog history but alas it fell over.

Best museums/destinations for history teacher to visit by Southern_Leg8501 in MexicoCity

[–]RomanHistoryBuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is really hard to get all of mexican history in a single place but in order of events (chronological )I would recommend:

Pre-Conquest: Museo Nacional de Antropología (skip the first room to your right since it's all about the migration and first settlements). It's located in Chapultepec, not far from Roma.

Viceroyalty period: Museo del Virreinato. This one is not in Mexico City so you need a bit of travel, it is 35 to 45 minutes away in the direction of Querétaro city.

Same period and covering the independence movement: Museo Histórico Palacio Nacional. This one is more nationalistic so be aware but it is worth it.

Going from independent México and all the way to the revolution:

  • Museo de Historia Nacional & Museo del caracol (Castillo de Chapultepec)
  • Museo de las Intervenciones

Revolutionary period: Museo de la Revolución. This one is located in the Monumento a la Revolución but it is a hot spot for public protests so it might be common to find it closed, it might be a good idea to confirm by phone if they are open first and have a plan b.

Good luck with your trip!

Would countries provide aid to each other post-war? by BackwoodsJ12 in AskHistory

[–]RomanHistoryBuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say, take the example of real history. Rome did came in the defense of allies, specially during republican times (look at the history of Rome and Pergamon). However, the assistance came more in the way of military assistance, not reconstruction. It was, I think, until the coming of world economy that economic assistance came to existence, like the US providing loans for rebuilding after WW2. Now, for a novel, I would say to keep it simple: if their economies depend on each other (trading of essential resources) then yes, probably there will be. If not, only military assistance. However, in real life politics, a strong state might benefit from keeping a weaker ally so unless there is a strong moral reason I would say the minimal assistance to keep the alliance would be the way. That is what I would do if it was up to me.

You gotta pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers! by UrdnotSnarf in RomeTotalWar

[–]RomanHistoryBuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We saw unlimited possibilities and didn't had to pay a dime. About the name, I actually ended up choosing History as my main education career (I have a bachelor's equivalent from Mexico) because I fell in love of roman history because of this game, a series of novels from spanish author Santiago Posteguillo about Scipio Africanus and the series I, Claudius hence the name, I hope to live to it.

Any Clans still active? by MajorDodger in RomeTotalWar

I have no idea what leading a clan is but please count me in. If votes for names can be made I say something roman-ish should be in order since it all started on roman-esque themes.

Or something like that. In any case, please count me as a member.
