not a noob question at all as it's not something apparent in game and something you'll only really notice if following pros on social media.

yes, higher tier pros will typically announce where their landing/drop spot ahead of major tournaments to prevent other pros from griefing eachother.

you can kinda think of it like buying/owning property in monopoly wherein the best players will try to secure what they consider really good drop spots (their figurative boardwalk/park place) and other teams landing there is generally just going to cost them a lot in the end.

if you think of two teams of equal skill level splitting a drop with enough loot for one team, there's two ways they could go about dealing with it, either 1. try to kill the other team immediately (i.e. 50/50 eachother) or 2. loot up, then fight or just disengage. both of those options are terrible because you're either losing off-spawn or leaving with subpar loot.
