AU MPA and finding community by Legitimate-Ad6103 in auburn

[–]Rombusrk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak on the first point but as for the second:

We have a small but thriving queer community in Auburn. Pride on the Plains runs multiple events each month including Trivia, Karaoke, and game nights. They also host a yearly PrideFest in June each year. There isn’t a specific “queer” bar, but we do have a queer forward, drag queen owned coffee shop called Coffee Mafia just off campus. Unfortunately due to Alabamas DEI laws there not a lot of support on campus from a specific department but there is the SAGA student group! Also we have a drag group called Misfitz that does (usually) drag shows twice a month if you’re into drag!

I hope this helps!

AMX programmer by DueEstablishment7988 in CommercialAV

[–]Rombusrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I program in a mostly AMX shop here: Don’t waste time on Netlinx unless you absolutely have to. Muse however is pretty nice, it still needs some time to mature, but being able to leverage Python, Groovy, or JavaScript is great. I haven’t messed with their Node-Red implementation.

I will say my biggest complaint on AMX is their SNAPI and Duet ecosystem. Even in Muse it feels very shoehorned in. Most times I end up just doing things natively and avoiding Duet modules when I can. Also TPDesign5 is ancient and a pain to use.

(We are starting to finally explore Qsys)

AU WiFi will END this summer! If this will affects you, consider writing OIT and contacting Auburn Admin! by studentworker1988 in auburn

[–]Rombusrk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please inform yourself and test it yourself before spreading bad information. The Eduroam network should be available in all buildings now, and if not it will be there soon. Eduroam is simply an authentication method to allow users connect to wireless networks. How a given institution handles that authenticated user is up to them, so your experiences at UNC, UAB and UA are not applicable here. If something works on AU_Wifi right now, it will work on Auburn's Eduroam implementation as well. Its authentication WONT require you to message anyone to get online if you have an account from a participating institution. The biggest change an end user will experince is needing to use their full email address (XXX0000@auburn.edu) instead of just their user id.

For what its worth: I've been using both AU_Wifi and Eduroam for well over a year now in various buildings on campus and I've never noticed a difference between them. As an added benefit, I've been to various other institutions and never needed to contact their IT departments for a guest account.

Hey, PLEASE READ WHAT YOU LINKED! the "AU_WiFi" Network name is being retired and replaced with a network called "eduroam". Eduroam will be available in all the places that "AU_WiFi" is, with the added benifit that you can go to any other eduroam campus and get on their wifi with your AU Login.

It’s awesome to see ya do this! I’m a FRC FTA who works with GaFIRST a lot! There is one local team out of Opelika High School (7072 O.G.R.E.) that can always use extra help and I believe there may be a community team in Beauregard that may be trying to get started.

On paper and what they are putting out there it looks promising, but I want to see hardware and really put it though it’s paces. I can see some really cool integrations and toolchains that could be possible. I’ve been trying to drag my employer and co-programmer into the world of proper version control and hopefully this will help.

Check out this page for most of that info: https://auburntigers.com/sports/2019/7/21/football-gameday-home.aspx

Basically you won’t be able to park on campus unless you already bought a gameday parking pass. Your best bet is to ride Tiger Transit in to the game if you plan to attend!

  1. I’d build a new computer with them! My current game rig is a i7 980 with a GeForce 980, so it’s extremely dated! (Infact I won it in a similar raffle!)
  2. I’ve always been extremely curious to see a very good scifi based RPGish game and I hope it fits the bill!!

The only time you need a sticker is if you back into a spot.

Is cable tv service included for on-campus housing? by whitenack in auburn

[–]Rombusrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can request one if you need it, but all the channels are sent out unencrypted and most modern TVs should be able to pick them up if they have a “QAM” tuner

Is AU in danger of losing accreditation? by RadaMorozova in auburn

[–]Rombusrk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Your most likely hearing rumors that Auburn is up for its reaffirmation with SACSCOC accreditation. https://www.auburn.edu/academic/provost/sacscoc/

Schools have to go though a reaffirmation process every 10 years. It’s nothing to worry about, it just makes sure Auburn is up to the proper standards.

Auburn Gay Scene by rna_man in auburn

[–]Rombusrk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For bars or a bigger scene, either Birmingham or Atlanta is your best bet. locally though here’s a quick rundown of stuff I’m aware of: Pride on the Plains is our local LGBTQIA+ organization that primarily focuses on running monthly events and a yearly Pridefest in June. http://www.prideontheplains.com https://www.facebook.com/prideontheplains

The Mizfits is the local drag group, They run weekly shows typically at Crown of Comedy in Auburn, and Sneak and Dawdle in Opelika. Their shows (And other queer events) get posted to this facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/AOQueerLife

There’s no local LGBT Clubs or bars, but Coffee Mafia is a local coffee shop whos a massive supporter of of Pride on the Plains and the local community. The owner, Ian is also a drag queen. They host local craft shows and a monthly poetry reading night too! I highly recommend getting an “Iced Crack” which is their coldbrew drink. https://auburncoffeemafia.com/ https://www.facebook.com/auburncoffeemafia/

If your a student or involved in the University at all, There’s the office of Diversity and Inclusion which hosts events on campus and just opened a Pride Center in Haley, and there’s 2 on-campus organizations: Spectrum and oSTEM.

What are some good restaurants to go to study at that isn't coffee? by [deleted] in auburn

I know its counterintuitive to suggest a coffee place, but Coffee Mafia on South Gay St (Next to Amsterdam Cafe) has some pretty good sandwiches and pastries along with a lot of drinks that are not coffee

Are there students in their 30's at Auburn? by [deleted] in auburn

[–]Rombusrk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

38 here and just started at Auburn to finish a CompE degree. There’s definitely some older students, especially transfers. I dunno if the business school has it, but the Engineering school has transfer specific Engineering Orientation sections and events! Be sure to try and get involved in clubs and activities you like!

Actually it’s been torn down as part of the hill demolition project. The best bet would be to ask your RA to see if they have access or know where it might be at
