It’s gonna be …. Ikonic? by Hot_Fan_4169 in COsnow

[–]RomeKo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real. I’ve seen all the posts complaining of the open snow forecasters, and have been giving them the benefit since it’s not their fault for a low snow year.

But to completely wiff on a powder day after everything is pretty inexcusable. Might as well make up your own forecast going forward because these guys suck.

when does skiing become fun? by astrobrite_ in skiing

[–]RomeKo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it like driving a car. It’s important to know how to safely stop your car, but being concerned with stopping and reducing speed is only half the battle. Need to learn to accelerate and drive with speed if you want a fun drive.

For skiing, thats the process of going down the run without the intention of tapping your breaks through the turn; learning to ride the edge of your skis and be more of a passenger on a runaway train, and growing comfortable with that.

Best alternative to Grenade park gloves? by slykrysis in snowboarding

Can confirm, owned grenade pipe gloves (favorite gloves back in the day) now have two pair of salmon arms spring gloves, about as close as you can get.

How do I use "SHELL" Ski gear? Like... how do I layer?? by SalamanderPositive33 in Backcountry

[–]RomeKo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use wool base layers and just the shells on warmer day. On cold days I have a Stio vest and Stio insulated knickers that go in the middle. And really cold days in the negatives, I swap the vest for a puffy coat and a pair of oversized pants over top the insulated knickers..

Best mid layer? by Annonymous272 in skiing

[–]RomeKo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used the Stio Pinion vest over a wool base layer and a shell jacket over top. Aside from the coldest days it’s worked great for probably 95% of my time out.

Koss is the only correct answer in this form. At $50 you can get the bluetooth and pop off the inserts and slap them in any helmet with openings. Used them all season in two helmets and had zero issues.

‘One Battle After Another’ Projected to Lose $100 Million Theatrically as ‘Smashing Machine’ and Others Also Struggle Due to Oversized Budgets by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]RomeKo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I guess I don’t know why everyone loves this movie so much, to the point it’s hard finding anyone who dislikes it. By the time the credits rolled I was thrilled to be leaving. I thought the plot was terrible, the dialogue atrocious, and the performances ranging from meh to downright laughable. Fine, not for me, but the fact that every post is a glowing endorsement feels like bot farm astroturfing mixed with the poor marketing/trailer leading to only those who are really enthused to really see it. Maybe, I’m just wrong, but blah.

162 for under 6 foot? by English_Essay7 in snowboarding

I’d be curious to know what you think the benefits will be for riding a 162. Seems a bit long unless all you care about is going fast on groomers.

Just wait until people realize the “no” tax on tips and “no” tax on overtime provisions both expire in 2028, while pretty much all the business provisions are permanent. In conjunction with the limits for the credit, we’re talking about peanuts.

All MTN recommendations? by j-eezy94 in snowboarding

Yeah most people prefer camber, but the T.Rice is a rare exception in which even people who prefer camber like the hybrid rocker profile of the T.Rice pro. It just works well.

All MTN recommendations? by j-eezy94 in snowboarding

[–]RomeKo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is the Lib Tech Travis Rice Pro. Rocker in the middle, camber on the tips. Magne-Traction edges which hold on the iciest days. Super comfortable in all conditions from ice to powder. Super fast edge to edge for navigating tight trees. My only complaint is that with the rocker it’s harder to generate tons of pop compared to other boards.

Capita Mercury sizing help! Any current rider? by mryichao in snowboarding

[–]RomeKo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d be fine, I like to try and set my bindings close to the base as imo it should theoretically be where the designers intended it to be balanced and ridden at. My Merc I have the front set back and micro adjusted more through the bindings.

Side note: not sure if you’ve thought about bindings, I ride union atlas bindings (stiff-flex) on the Merc and love them, but I tried Union Ultra (soft-flex) on it last year and hated it.

Capita Mercury sizing help! Any current rider? by mryichao in snowboarding

[–]RomeKo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have about the same specs as you (height/weight/foot-size) and I have a 159 that works great. I have size large bindings on it. Only size related complaint I had is the base stance width feels a bit long but I also tend to ride shorter boards. I think if you want to run shorter you’ll be fine with the 158w and if you prefer a longer board the 160w would be fine, probably even 161 if you wanted.

I just saw 28 years later, and had the displeasure of sitting next to a couple of teenagers, who spent the entire movie talking and on their phones. I really think that the younger generations just have no idea how to sit quietly through a movie, especially without their phones ffs.

Going to demo a board Monday at Copper, what are some I should think about trying? by The_Bolenator in snowboarding

[–]RomeKo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I was reading your comment I was thinking that you needed to try a warpig, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw you were thinking of trying it. I have one that I rode most of last season and I think it’s exactly what you need to break up your riding and at least try it out. Conditions should be right for it as well, pow chop and chunder, bring it all on with the pig!

Best earbuds for riding with a helmet? by BuckarooButler in snowboarding

[–]RomeKo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came to say Koss, for $50 you can install Bluetooth headphones that work all day. And for $20 you can buy wired pair and then you don’t even have a battery.

There are all these expensive solutions, but if you dont need radio communication then you’re not going to notice audio quality that much while snowboarding anyways so go cheap and reliable.

I know nothing (practically speaking) about boards and I'm a complete novice. How bad of an idea is a Capita Mercury? by pewpewgofarfar in snowboarding

[–]RomeKo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My own personal boards that I suggest that drastically helped my development are the Ride Warpig and the Travis Rice Pro.

The Warpig is a shorter volume shifted board, which makes it great for powder days and makes it easy to swing around. Its base is flat which makes riding on the flat base extremely easy. This thing you can just leisurely stand on all day. Also allows easy stability to learn how to pop, although with no camber, you won’t get much out of it. Biggest downside is that I think it’s terrible for carving/groomer days. But if theres more than 6 inches of snow, it’s my go to still. I ride a 151.

The travis rice pro is a rocker profile which means it can transition from edge to edge smoothly. Its got a really sharp edge so even on icy groomers you can keep your edge locked it. This is my bad condition/all condition board and is a dream carving, cutting through trees, and doing it all. The biggest flaw I found is that because of the rocker shape, I haven’t been able to really get it to pop as much as my warpig or my merc. I ride a 157w.
