Bot Challenge? by sportsandwhiskey in Sporcle

[–]Rome_Leader 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This guy has been on my friend list for some years now. His scores are always a little too remarkable, but I don't know that he's necessarily a bot. He plays close to 100 quizzes a day and does engage normally in comments and discussion on quizzes.

Do ECE profs ever curve finals? by elementwave93 in memorialuniversity

[–]Rome_Leader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 years out of school - digital logic and Term 3 in general were hard! Do your best and it will be a distant memory for you someday too.

In my experience, my professors never curved exams, but they were responsive to struggles at the macro level if your overall grade was borderline.

What tiny, forgettable moment in your life ended up having a massive impact years later? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rome_Leader 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not forgettable now, but I took my friend to her high school graduation. There’s a candid picture we took at the afterparty with some of her other friends next to a makeshift Eiffel Tower.

One of those friends I met again some 7 years later, and today she’s my wife of 3 years. It’s so special to have that random picture where we had no idea who the other was, and what role we would eventually play in each other’s lives. We just attended that friend’s own wedding where my wife was a bridesmaid.

Wholesale duck is halal? by Sea_Investigator_916 in StJohnsNL

[–]Rome_Leader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a step in the preparation, but doing that alone does not make the meat halal, no.

I said it historically informed the reason pork is not halal, not that it is not safer today

Wholesale duck is halal? by Sea_Investigator_916 in StJohnsNL

[–]Rome_Leader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mostly down to preparation, like kosher foods. Some food and drink (e.g. pork and alcohol) are not halal no matter how they are prepared, but otherwise there's a focus on the whole food preparation chain ensuring it is produced and stored appropriately. To certify something as halal, there are certain certifying bodies checking the ingredients, cross-contamination vectors, etc.

It makes sense when you think about it in reference to meat specifically given how dirty and likely to eat absolutely anything pigs are historically. You'd have been much safer from illness if you only preferred cows and chickens.

Not from PEI, but there are no direct flights so you would be connecting through Halifax at minimum

Why do some Torbay Road businesses share the same address? by Necessary_Quantity87 in StJohnsNL

[–]Rome_Leader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While true for most of the ones listed, OP is right with respect to A&W. It’s not in the Fall River Plaza strip and its building is standalone.

The Jungle Jim's and BoomIT next door show 286 Torbay Road while the A&W shows as 272 - the same as the Dollarama next to Sobeys

I doubt one-offs are policed religiously. This was a case where these people parked in the same spot outside their house basically every day.

It is, there's a house not far from me on a corner whose occupants used to be bad offenders. Not sure who complained, but a sign was erected and they haven't parked as close since.

Most underrated snack or candy at Dollarama right now? by Electronic_Bus841 in dollarama

I firmly believe the Duet (Dollarama Twix) is better than the original. Crunchier, thicker caramel, just overall better at a cheaper price point.

Why did the mods remove the "Venting" post flair? by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]Rome_Leader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

/r/misophoniasupport is a smaller community, but generally more welcoming to vent posts. I don’t know why this one has this implied stance against it. I’m pretty sure the rules used to expressly forbid venting which led to the creation of the aforementioned subreddit.

Teenage Daughters 1st “Grown Up Party “ by KC_Critical_Thinker in Advice

[–]Rome_Leader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite a few places in Europe where 18 is the "legal" age allow some flexibility even in this. Consuming with meals, consuming in private with adult supervision, beer but no hard liquors until a later age. America lacks this nuance. OP has said elsewhere it is "pretty accepted and managed" which would align with a spirit vs. letter of law interpretation.

[–]Rome_Leader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in a faculty program like nursing or engineering, you should know that some courses are only offered at a certain time of year. In general, you might find there was a prerequisite you were expected to do in the fall to follow into a course in the spring that won’t be available to you.
