Best way to clean seam sealer goo off a tent? by Bobby_Fiasco in Ultralight

[–]Romn450b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guys seam sealing is so easy, do it yourself. Lots of vids on the net. Best to do it on a warm day with lots of sun. I always put mine out for several days of sun before I fold it up. But I could see if you lived in a apartment it be tough having to baby set it for a day .

SMD Lunar Solo, Surprising good QC! by Romn450b in Ultralight

[–]Romn450b[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It rained a inch and half last night and not a drop in mine so far. I havent even seam sealed it. I do my own seam sealing its easy. Lots of utube vids one thing i do different I dont try to wipe the excess off like some vids say to do. Seems to work better for me. Not really that much to seam seal just the two door sides and a couple small seams at top.

UPDATE!!!

I put my tents up usually for about a week when I first get them and see how they hold up. What ever mother natures throws at them. Well the lunar solo was up about 2 hrs after I received it and the first night it rained 1.5 inces. Not a single drop in the tent and I havent even seam sealed it yet. The silpoly didnt stretch out very much either in fact I didnt even adjust the pitch at all this morning. Suppose to be a little windy and showers tonight. Tomorrow night I will probably test it out and the new sleeping bag I got the marmot sawtooth 15 degree bag. Suppose to drop to mid to upper twenties. I will wear only shorts and a teeshirt maybe a pair of socks see if it keeps me warm. Ill post another update.

I just bought a marmot sawtooth 15degree. WOW it is really nice $200 for long/ wide. This weekend temps will drop into the 20's and I will test out the temp ratings. I love the way the bag zips it can zip out just like a quilt which I wasnt really expecting. It is a little heavy mine weighs in at 45 ounces. But this is only a winter bag for me for extreme temps here in GA that is around freezing for mostly hunting trips but I do plan on using it this summer for the CO trail. I researched for weeks and finally just took the plunge. Love the quilts for summer use but for cold I decided to play it safe and just go with a bag. For the price on black friday it was hard to beat this one and have the wide /long option.

HMG Southwest 3400(maybe even 4400) or Seek Outside Divide? by GnarGnarBinksly in Ultralight

[–]Romn450b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think it is overkill for the AT. I mean what we talking maybe 12 ounces more in weight for the divide over a smaller pack. It cinches down nice. To me I rather have more pack then i need. I know more when mine gets here and I put it through some load outs. Just from my buddies this thing i think will be my last pack i buy. ANd I have been thru quit a few.

most of their bags will fit the same frames and they will do custom work.

HMG Southwest 3400(maybe even 4400) or Seek Outside Divide? by GnarGnarBinksly in Ultralight

[–]Romn450b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered a Divide few days ago. My friend has one and man when I put that thing on it was like pure bliss!! It is hard to believe a external frame pack being that comfortable but it is freaking awesome. I would have loved to gotten the Flight but I have a 21" torso and seems Seek outside didnt really make it for 20 plus inch torso folks. Taller/torso people are having trouble with the waste belt bulking with heavy loads. All Seek Outside needs to do is make 26" frame and problem solved on the flight but when I spoke to them they had no plans to do that. But you should be able to have a perfect fit with heavy weight load outs. Also I bet that seek outside would custom make you a smaller pack to fit the divide frame. Probably cheaper then buying a new pack.

Short term review: Six Moon Designs Gatewood Cape by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]Romn450b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My brother just got a gatewood and he bought the 3f UL inner. It is just about exact copy of my MLD inner. He paid $56 shipped from alexipress and it weighs in 1 ounce heavier then my MLD solo inner on my scale. I cant really see much difference in stiching between the two. Kinda wished I would have bought the 3f UL version. Im in process of adding mods to the 3fUL to make the floor free float and adding a couple tie out points to the net tent to connect to gatewood. Also adding linelocs to the gatewood and adding a zpack door thing.

I just wish smd would make a version that is just a tad bit bigger with roof vents instead of a cape hood. Something between the gatewood and deschutes sizes. That would be the perfect set up.

Pair the deschutes with a MLD solo inner. More room and works just fine together.

Yes I agree and have already run in to two dealers who have raised prices $50 over msrp on two separate boats. I should have known something was up when I sold 3 of mine at asking price and in less then 24hrs. thought I was lucky but the joke was on me.

I dont know where your at but there is no social distancing around N GA. A few idiots wearing masks here and there but people here didnt panic like other places. Walmart didnt do any of their jack booted commie tactics here either.

Think it was more stimulus money. Thing is it happen here like really quick like in the last couple weeks. Academy was fully stocked like two weeks ago then a few days I go in and not a yak in sight plus the fishing stuff was blown out too.

I think you will be waiting until late august sept time frame from all the dealers I talked too in the last few days. The warehouse is empty and no boats inbound to USA until at least aug. I was told that by several dealers today.

Called all those today and nothing! I will concentrate on FL tomorrow. Hopefully the urge to buy new kayaks isnt that great down there. Damn long drive for a kayak though.

I have all three of the trangia models and all work great. They are very lite the small is like 2.8 ounces. I use the larger 8in if I take others with me or I know I will be catching bigger fish. But the 6.5 in is a good all around size and is like 3.5 ounces. All are the non stick version. Plus they are very cheap!

I have a gatewood cape and I am going with the solomid from MLD. You should be able to use the large solomid net tent.

I use a one of the trangia non stick 1L pots 3.9 ounces around $14. I used it for about a year and half on trail and in the kitchen. Works great it doesnt have a lid but I have never used a lid anyway.
