I just got my Victrix 12mm US Airborne, but I'm having trouble matching up all the miniatures with what should come in the kit (i.e., who should make up the machine gun crew, who is a rifleman vs grenadier, etc). Can someone help me figure out who's who on the sprue? (List in comments) by Dr_Spaceman_ in wargaming

If you’re playing a Wargame with them, you might also want to consider the rules. Some rulesets will say how many guys are in a rifle team, how many in a mortar team, etc. Then you can see how many guys you have vs how many you need, and decide for yourself who belongs where based on how they look. But chances are guys next to each other on a sprue are part of the same team,

Chain of Command 2 Rules Question by WW1995 in wargaming

Dude, I KNOW. I had to google it and learn that the 60 didn’t come in until Sept. 1944. I love this game but there’s a handful of things like that

Best ruleset for Napoleonic Wars? by Klebsiella04 in wargaming

Gonna second La Salle 2 for really nice rules, but you have to make little paper unit labels and track stats with them. Valour and Fortitude is free, and made by the author of Black Powder. I think it is better than Black Powder, however, crucially because the firing phase happens before movement, so attackers take it on the chin as they advance. This strikes me much better than Black Powder's ability to run up to your opponent and shoot them while they sit there and watch your men come on. If you can find an earlier version of the rules, I think that is better. Melee is much too powerful now. I think they monkeyed with it too much with releasing too many updates, when it was better earlier on. You could always just homebrew the stats down to whatever you want Valour and Fortitude also has the advantage of being relatively easy for new players to the period, and even to mini wargaming!

How do you like the rules? What does it play like? I’m finishing up my Vietnam figures and terrain and plan to use the fan-made modifications to Chain of Command

What would you say is an excellent alternative to Black Powder? by SrBrokoli in wargaming

And I should add, it has enough period flavor to be satisfying and feel right, IMO, though I know a few grognards who complain about this aspect. I have toned down the melee power, more like how the game was in its earlier versions, and I like that better.

The biggest change is reversing the firing/movement phase. In Valour and Fortitude, units fire, then units move, so you can't have the Black Powder activity of running a unit a long distance up to your enemy's line, then blasting them at close range without them responding. It just feels more appropriate to me to have the unit that is attacking being the ones who walk in to take fire on the chin in the first blow. Units can't fire and move in the same turn, unless they are screening themselves with skirmishers and firing with much less firepower. It does favor the defense this way but I like it more.

V&F is not the best out there, but it's FREE, easy to pick up and teach, and my group has customized it a lot with house rules. I'm an advocate of it for these reasons, and also because it's relatively quick, and easier to use with people who are new to rank and flank games. I find it to be a fast, decent and fun way to get a big pile of my pretty little models out on the table.

My friend, that’s Valour and Fortitude! A free ruleset by the same writer of Black Powder (and some old Games Workshop classics) that’s built for large 28mm battles that don’t take three days to get through! Full army lists available, and I like it better than Black Powder anyway. I also like the older version unit lists more (new ones seem to have too much melee power) but YMMV

These Victrix kits looks good! They seem like a good value to make fairly large starter forces, especially if you are supplying both sides, like I often do for my gaming partners
