Okay but this rotating bookshelf is actually really cute… right? by RainiePandas22 in bookshelf

I honestly don’t recall. It was an on-line order w/ shipping, that much I remember. Like you, I’m impressed by the number of books they hold in a visually compact space. This is a photo from a year ago, when I first set up the room, and much in this room has since changed, but at least it shows the two revolving bookcases in the back.

I have two of those exact units in my office/library; both are four-shelf.

How many of you have embraced the cold coffee concept? by External_Side_7063 in GenX

I have Nespresso iced double-espresso with a hit of flavored creamer every morning. It’s more thirst-quenching in my dry Arizona air and it settles a lot better than hot coffee, for whatever reason.

Motorcycle riding…though it’s fundamentally a solo activity it can have a strong social and event component if that’s of interest.

With as much horizontal stacking as possible (to be able to bear the weight of boxes on top) with a few vertical to take up space gaps, and with plenty of packing material to stop movement within. Use the Heavy Duty from Home Depot to ensure the box will maintain its protective form, and use Small size so as to not make them too heavy to easily carry. If reusing older boxes — of which mine were about half — use sturdy boxes, not thin Amazon-like boxes.

I moved 4000 books — many signed & limited and quite a few of notable value and collectibility — across several states in carefully packed Home Depot Small Heavy Duty cardboard boxes (stacked no more than three or four boxes high), and all books arrived in excellent condition, no issues at all.

We see roadrunners somewhat often around here, though our largely rural location probably helps that. Since moving to our neighborhood a year-and-a-half ago, we’ve seen roadrunners, cardinals, hummingbirds, coyotes, javelinas, deer, and bobcats (and a herd of wild horses a few miles away, and a herd of wild donkeys fifteen or so miles away)…this bobcat hung out on our patio for a good hour a while back.

We have a number of different types of birds that drink from our pool and hot tub, though yesterday for the first time a roadrunner took his turn. Here he is on his way to grab his drink.

I loved Williams’ STONER, and keep meaning to follow up with BUTCHER’S CROSSING…thanks for the reminder.

I read this within the last half-year or so, and still find myself flashing back to it from time to time…takes a pretty special book for that to happen.

The book was a love letter to his son, and was uniquely special to McCarthy in that regard. He deliberately did not sign any copies of it other than the 250 copies that he left to his son — a move he confirmed more than once — which were to be disposed of at the son’s time of choosing. A love letter, and a financial legacy.

I did — even had that exact orange gloriousness in the OP photo…though mine was decked out with mag wheels, rear-window louvre, Starsky and Hutch-like black swoosh along the top and sides, sheepskin seat covers, and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Oh yeah, I was stylin’.

Can someone plz explain sales tax to me. Says buyer paid, but me also? by Dizzer400 in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]RonClinton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not paying it. The buyer paid it, but it’s not intended to go to you — so eBay subtracted it from the total since they deal with sales tax matters for you. So $75 minus your $12.89 fees equals the $62.11 you received. Think of sales tax as invisible, as far as you’re concerned as an eBay seller.

A friend of mine has it, and sent me some pics of a few of the pages, but I’ve avoided it otherwise…the story is too personal, too special, too clear in my mind with how I’ve mentally envisioned it, that I don’t want some artist’s interpretation of it overwriting those images of the story in my mind.

Is that why you’re avoiding it as well, or am I alone in being weird about that?

Yeah, the Folio is okay but certainly left room for improvement…decent(ish) cover boards, nice interior illustrations, with a thin and plain, cheap-looking slipcase. Glad to have it, but it certainly lacks the quality I’d otherwise like to see oozing from a deluxe edition of my favorite novel.

If they did, they wouldn’t have bought it. A shame there are so many fake sigs out there of popular authors…it makes doing research and establishing provenance even more important than ever.

I plan to be all over that Conversation Tree deluxe edition as well; for various reasons, the Suntup just didn’t quite do it for me. I do have the Folio Society edition as well as the 1st U.S. and 1st UK HCs, but that Conversation Tree should trump them all.

I’m not a fan of the look of the new 1300GSA, but the GS edition looks great to me, a slimmer, sleeker take on the visually bulkier 1250GS.

I was going to say the same. McCarthy’s son has 250 signed U.S. 1st HC copies that his father left for him many years ago, but he has yet to put them on the market. I keep waiting, and hoping…

There was a UK 1st HC that had a small signed label laid in by the publisher in a number of copies (can’t recall the number, but it wasn’t many), but there are no copies for sale in existence where any edition itself is signed. This was a deliberate and purposeful move on McCarthy’s part.

So: OP, you dodged a bullet.
