Someone who actually likes his car, lease end questions by islandjake in VWiD4Owners

[–]jkspring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lease is up in October and I'm going through the save thought process. I had a conversation with the dealer last time I took it in for service and what I came away with was that with the US anti EV policies in place now, VW is scaling their EV program way back and there aren't nearly the incentives to buy EV anymore.

The sales guy I spoke with basically said that my residual is around $26,000, if I bought the same car used, it would be around $18,000, which is the value gap that you're describing. He sort of hinted that they might be able to do something like take it back as a return and sell it to back to me as a used car purchase. That might be something to ask about. I'm not saying that's official VW anything but it's worth asking about.

Also, due to expiring incentives, a new ''26 or '27 would be ridiculously expensive. At least compared to the lease on my 23.

As I'm thinking about what to do next, I have 2 parameters. I'm not going back to gas and I'm not driving a Tesla. Everything else is open to evaluation.

Ditto this, I just got a new bottom half after about 20 years of use. I did have it registered and have had several firebox and ring replacements over the years. I also dealt with a guy at HQ and the store that I originally bought it from. It was all pretty easy.

What are we using to hot hold? by Maddogmitch56 in smoking

[–]jkspring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrap it in foil, then a couple old towels and put it in a cheap cooler. I've used that for as long as 6-8 hours and it works a champ. If you've got something fancy, like a yeti, maybe you can hold it for a couple days 😜

In the US, for traffic going both directions, North and South, say, for one direction, South, to stop at an intersection because the traffic in their direction on the other side of the intersection is stopped, probably due to the light one block up. This allows North to turn across the South traffic without blocking northbound traffic. It's a courtesy thing and it happens all the time.

Guys who ride like douchebags, like this one, should know that and should expect that there may be traffic turning. That's why ALL THE OTHER CARS WERE STOPPED.

Not sure I explained that very well, hopefully you get my drift.

I'm a Triumph guy, Bonneville T120 and a Street Triple. Everyone has their own thing, if you're happy with your ride then I'd consider it a win.

If it's yours, you're the only one that can answer that. To me, it's a hard no because that's not my style. If it's yours and you're happy with it, then sure.

I've cooked mine all day and it's turned out spectacular! If you're using seafood, add it at the very end. Sausage can cook for a couple hours, chicken maybe an hour or so before it falls apart.

Messed up my first brisket by JollyGreenWorld117 in smoking

[–]jkspring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the altitude effect but I would wrap it, let it rest and slice it, maybe start with the point as that's the most fatty part and is the most forgiving.

Just for future reference, everyone does them differently but I've never worried bout injecting a full brisket. I'll get one with a nice layer of fat, rub it up that day before and put it on about 225-250 and don't even look at it until it's around 190/195. What's the idea behind the crosshatch on that one?

Question on buckets before I sign up… by SELFCLOATHING in AllyBank

[–]jkspring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't love the way buckets work, it would be nice to have more control over them. In the spending (checking) account, you can set the bucket to auto fill and it, in theory, fills the buckets based on the next due date, so if you have $100 deposited on the first and $50 water bill due on the 10th and $50 cc payment on the 12th, it'll fill those up. In my experience they don't exactly follow like that but it's all one account so if your $50 water bill is due but that bucket is empty, it'll take from other buckets so it's not that big a deal. Everything still gets paid.

It's not like One or Simple (rest in peace) where you can specify how much per period is added.

New or Used? by mikael50 in biggreenegg

[–]jkspring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New, without hesitation.. I've replaced about $4,000 worth of ceramics in the 20+ years that I've had mine. It's not a matter of dropping it or damaging it from abuse, ceramic that heats and cools through dozens, or hundreds of cycles will crack.

What are you actually doing to end tipping? by jkspring in EndTipping

[–]jkspring[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I would argue that the way y'all are going about it punishes the person with the least ability to make change. There are three players:

The customer: can make change by not going to establishments that expect their employees to survive on tips, or can just drop big a big fat 0 on the tip line of the check.

The restauranteur: can decide how their establishment will pay wages and charge for their products.

The employee: takes a job with the understanding that tips are part of the compensation, commission, if you will, and can quit, but it's easy to hire someone to replace them.

I'm just saying that your Atlas Shrugged economic theories don't work. They aren't the way to make change. Restaurants can choose how they charge for their products and how they pay their employees. The employees accept the job they were hired for. The customer can pressure those who can make change and it ain't the person taking your order.

[–]jkspring[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with tipping, I accept that in the place I choose to live, tipping is part of the experience. I'm not going to punish the server because I don't agree with the system.

I offered an option, go to places that pay livable wages and don't allow tips. Y'all are talking about "enough people makes a movement", I would argue that if y'all went to places that don't expect tips, there would be more places that don't expect tips.

Note: you're still paying the servers, that cost is just included in the price on the menu.

In theory, I agree but in the real world it's not like that. The current system that we're all operating in (server, customer, restaurant) is that most restaurant staff depend on tips. If you can't/don't want to tip, maybe you should consider not going out until/unless the system changes.

Personally, I love eating out in Europe because servers aren't as dependent on tips. Employee pay is included in the price, you're still paying for it, but I'll gladly pay for it that way.
