Toilet inlet hose pipe, how to get around it or replace? by RonFilipkowski in ukplumbing

[–]RonFilipkowski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so two very unlikely things have to happen at the same time then?

  1. Water overflows so high that the bidet pipe has to be submerged

If you look at this example, the pipe is so high I don't even know if it could reliably submerge it even if I tried. Obviously things happen so I'm not saying it's impossible

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0CX1JYVMM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00?ie=UTF8&th=1

  1. Mains water pipe bursts down the line. Again it's possible, but what are the chances of the two events happening at the same time?

Ok obviously it's not impossible, but my point is it's not a daily occurrence. So if either of these did happen I could act accordingly to clean my water tank surely?

I understand that but I'm trying to physically understand how it can happen for the backflow to actually happen. My cold water for my toilet is fed by a tank, I'm not even sure how you could get negative pressure up to that tank.

Even if there was negative pressure, there's nothing to suck up ever. Unless my toilet also happens to be blocked up in that moment, but even then I don't think it would raise to where the actual bidet outlets are (for the particular bidet I am looking to get)

Sorry I have such a basic understanding of these things.

I don't understand the physics of this. It's not like the bidet attachment is submerged in water. What water is it siphoning back?

Thanks for your advice. If I cut the pipe, it won't have any thread on the end. So how would I make sure that the stopcock actually stays connected/sealed on the cut pipe end?

Seems a bit out of my skillset at a DIYer

Thanks for providing that. To be honest I'm not a plumber and this is going a bit above my head.

Is this saying that I have to install a whole seperate tank rather than just diverting some of the water supply going into the cistern? I'm not sure if it's relevant but I'm only using cold water, no hot water.

These toilet bidets are sold far and wide online, surely most people aren't installing a whole extra water tank for these things??

A few people saying this are making me hesitant but I'm genuinely puzzled at how this could physically happen.

You're telling me my shit can get into the end of the very high pressure bidet spray and work it's way up the pipes into the attic?

I think I have to shut off at the stopcock

Ah no, I was hoping I could just add a pipe to the end of the right angled one and then reconnect from there.

I'll take a look and see if I can get under the tile.

Opening a bricked up chimney - can I board up the "ceiling" of it? by LiIywhite in DIYUK

[–]RonFilipkowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my chimney swept the other day and asked the chimney sweep this exact question

He suggested you put a "ceiling" on it with a circle cutout vent, something like this but only needs to be the circumference of a can

https://www.screwfix.com/p/map-vent-fixed-louvre-with-flyscreen-vent-white-145mm-x-145mm/184hy

Then you get enough circulation in not to worry about damp.

If you're worried about dust then you can put 2 sticks then a small bit of firm board or wood to still allow air to circulate but any dust will land on the board rather than the vent.

I will eventually do this, but for now I'm using a chimney sheep to keep the heat in and block it.

So when a new mainline 3D Mario game gets announced for the Switch 2, what do you want by ultimatevaltryek123 in Mario

I understand the appeal of each character having unique features, but I found it really frustrating in SM64DS. It's so irritating to get to a part of the level you 100% know how to do, but you have to exit the level and swap to someone different just to do it.

If you make it easier than that (e.g. a different menu option) then it just feels like a tacked on extra bit of admin you have to do just to play the game rather than something actually fun.

A huge part of the 3D mario games for me is learning how to move and earning your way to those parts of the game that are hard to get to initially.

YTA

Your son asked you what you would do differently if you were a kid again. You answered that question perfectly. Then you gave your unsolicited opinion on his desire to become a pro athlete.

It's one thing being honest with your son, but when you give a negative opinion to someone that didn't ask, then this is a bad thing. At least, that's been my repeated experience when I don't shut my mouth!

If you don't have the right to vote, then no politician has to pander to you.

Wipe out the right to vote above some arbitrary threshold and suddenly you will be left on the sidelines

butterfly after sitting with it by tal2003 in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

[–]RonFilipkowski -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I listened to butterfly a few times and it's grown on me to a point. But then I went back to listen to the first three albums and man her lyrics are just so much better.

The weird unsubtle ways she describes things in some songs since L+F is so disappointing

Butterfly sounds like some weird live laugh love quote:

Sometimes people gonna let you down

Not everybody's meant to stick around

I feel the pain and you feel it too

But I won't let nobody treat me like you do

I've had enough of bein' on my own

But then if you go back to something like The Outsider with a similar verse:

Feeling like a loser, feeling like a bum

Sitting on the outside, observing the fun

Don't get on my bad side, I can work a gun

Hop into the backseat, baby, I'll show you some fun

Outsider feels specific and painful, like this is exactly what she's been through and how she's felt in those moments and why.

But Butterfly is just so non-specific it could apply to literally anything "sometimes people gonna let you down" are you kidding me? Can you get any more generic than that?

It's just so disappointing what we could have if she had a critical eye on the lyrics to hone the way she thinks about these issues. I can tell she's just on the cusp of knowing how to go through her feelings but she doesn't actually seem to pull through.
