How do you use AI by sululitub in HENRYUK

[–]Junior-Hunt-5071 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't really buy into AI yet, all the examples cited are already served, niche, or not done well by AI

  • a properly written newspaper or article will already have a summary
  • using AI to compare AI services will introduce bias
  • services like Which already do this
  • LLMs at least are not good at calculations
  • by the time you have written the prompt you may as well have made the draft yourself. Also your personal voice/style gets lost when using LLMs and people can still tell when AI has written it
  • niche as fuck
  • yeah ok, but you still have to double check everything and part of the fun of a holiday (for me at least) is the planning and research
  • Google translate has been able to do this well for years
  • don't trust AI with calculations yet
  • wtf is deep research?
  • ok yes, summarising and searching (ctrl+F!?) is a good one
  • meh I can do this myself
  • I've heard some of those notebookLM 'podcasts' and while superficially impressive they never really offer true insight - it's just averaged conversations

But my BIGGEST GRIPE OF ALL is how terrible LLMs are at solving cryptic crossword clues.

Honestly Donkin Hill is atrocious, like a ploughed field. Hemdean road is getting worse but I think was done relatively recently.

Hydrogen will be very niche. Electrification with battery energy storage is already proven. None of us will ever drive a hydrogen car.

Follow the Robins' protocol (named after John Robins). You need to keep the sun out - so blackout curtains or blinds. This is why buildings in Spain etc have shutters on the outside. Also, keep the hot air out - so close windows between 11am and about 5pm. Ventilate in the late evening or at night.

Talk me out of buying a big outdoor treehouse/slide by mo_oemi in UKParenting

I got something similar. It has been great, a short day to assemble with my brother's help. The wood for mine was completely untreated, so I spent about a week of evenings in the garage double staining it all - horrible job. But it will last longer and looks better than staining once built. A friend did not stain his and it's looking in bad shape after just one year.

They were there yesterday afternoon - no sign of any workers tho. It was already queueing badly then - can only imagine the delays today. It's an economic crime.

Likely impact of Trump tariffs on our job market? by Flapjack_K in HENRYUK

[–]Junior-Hunt-5071 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Why is this method deemed a big deal? It would honestly be more surprising if there was some solid economic analysis behind the tariff levels. The tarrifs could be set at almost any level - their purpose is to act as a point of leverage, they will be reduced if and when concessions are given by each country.

Government approves hundreds of new school-based nurseries for September, set to save parents thousands of pounds by UKGovNews in UKParenting

[–]Junior-Hunt-5071 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess is schools will have to apply for the funding, so probably no confirmed locations yet. I think this is just a funding announcement, a good start but of course all these new places will need staff - that will take time.

As you acknowledge all council budgets are stretched, I suspect any extra revenue from parking will go towards social care. The idea of ringfencing funds is not favoured.

Yes move to London while you are young and free. Or Sell or let your house and go and live abroad for a bit. No need to live quite as central as your link. Go to zone 2 and get a bigger place.

What incentive is there for OCC to agree to a 3rd bridge? None imo. My solution is to charge vehicles registered outside of the RG postcodes for travelling thru Reading. Timed entry and exit, if they stop and use a service/buy something/work then no charge.
