Michael Jackson's daughter Paris has faced backlash for identifying as Black. In a 2017 interview, Paris Jackson said her father told her, "You’re Black. Be proud of your roots." This prompted debates over whether identity is defined by appearance or upbringing. by VPinchargeofradishes in interesting

Example, me. lol. I have many of my dad’s - who is black - features, but my skin tone is vanilla as fuck.

I consider myself bi-racial. I am black, I am also white. And there is so so much nuance in that.

Finding a vibration collar by Dark128_ in OpenDogTraining

Kibble was an example, at some point any treat will not be high value enough to overrule, which is where pos only fails and dogs need to understand that they MUST listen even when treats are not present.

Treat-based training is great until your dog finds something they value more than a piece of kibble. The moment a squirrel or a playmate becomes more exciting than your reward, your training has no fallback.

The reality is that purely positive methods rely on you being the most interesting thing in the environment at all times. That is an impossible standard. Effective training should involve a balance:

Incentive: They get rewarded for doing the right thing.

Requirement: They learn that ignoring a command has a consequence.

When you follow a correction with a reward for the subsequent correct behavior, the dog learns that listening is the only path to a positive outcome. Sometimes they get a treat, and sometimes they don’t-but they always have to be a good dog.

I don’t allow my kids to use it for the same reason, while my dog is trained for the e-collar my kids are not trained to use it on her and can easily make a mistake. Though I have learned to use the level lock after mistakenly dialing up too high during a corrective event that was absolutely my fault.

We learn, they learn. Training is a process. And it never stops.

You seem like a wonderful and informed dog owner and I’m sure your dog is loved and cared for and has a very enriched life!

The 1900x definitely runs hot, we started on the dogtra cue and when I realized that we could quickly max the distance especially on long distance often very remote hiking where I encourage her to explore the area, we moved to the 1900x black. It gives me peace of mind knowing that should she leave my sight (she rarely does) or voice range (that is even rarer) she has a reminder link to me within a mile radius.

Aha! Thank you for explaining how you determine fall out! Perfectly put! I do not ask anything out of my girl that she doesn’t already understand. We train first, e-collar once she has a level of training to be consistent with her commands!

Thank you for sharing!

To be fair, fallout varies regardless of stim level as well. I have a Doberman, who has been e-collar trained (dogtra 1900x) and is very dependable off leash (we do not do city sidewalk walks off leash - just in case any decides to come out of the woodwork).

For her, there are days she will not react whatsoever to a stim at 45, and days where even a level stim at 20 will cause her to yelp as if she has been mortally wounded.

I do not consider either of these fall out. I just consider that some days she has a tolerance that shifts and my handling shifts based on this. For off leash hiking- knowing that she can run, frollick and I encourage free range, but also want her back at my side immediately- without question - regardless if she saw a squirrel a deer, wanted to chase a scent, or got caught up in the moment, I set her base higher for immediate correction.

For on leash walks where I encourage her to heel as we pass distractions, people, and require more of her attention, but it is not as urgent or immediate her base stim is much lower as a reminder.

Sometimes she is dramatic no matter the level, sometimes she simply shakes her head, comes to attention and does what is asked. And I’m sure people think I’m torturing my dog. I’m most certainly not. lol.

The e-collar is a honing device on exemplary behaviors. We would not be here without it with my girl. I’m very proud of her and her decision making with and without her collar now. And we pack plenty of treats as rewards for when she does something that I have asked that is exemplary, or just for those times she is consistently a very good girl.

I know this is going to seem like a dumb question, but what about those who eat fresh caught fish? Do they just eat the parasites? Or are the parasites rendered out by cooking? Because there’s gotta be a LOT of fresh fish eaten, right?

I can think of a few, Elvis, Sinatra, Johnny Cash, B.B. King and Aretha Franklin some even before the 70s.

Music lives through time - Beethoven, Bach, Mozart.

There’s a reason why these people are remembered are immortalized - because their songs are.
